One of the things I cherish most about your videos is you show your mistakes. You let us see that even though all of us would like to do everything right the first time, it doesn't happen a lot of times and we need to embrace the mistakes. When that happens, the accident solution is so much better than the first. Thanks for being authentic!!!

I had a similar problem with a memory journal I made for my son, I followed Luise’s tutorial. It was unnerving to do, but I’m so glad I did it. I made a much bigger spine, I’m happy now. I love how you don’t edit out your errors. We all appreciate watching you be human and fix them. I absolutely love your May digital tea party kit. Made Mother’s Day cards with it, they turned out so lovely. Thanks again Barbara for another super video ❤️❤️

I have done this with a journal that I made to small. It was my Christmas holidays journal, when I visited friends. I was going to document that trip in the journal. It was a one journal signature, but it was full and overflowing after documenting a few days, but I wanted everything in one. so I collected ephemera and kept it until I was home. Then I created a cover with a bigger spine for 3 signatures, the original journal I disesembeled, I was still able too. and it turned into a really cool journal.

Barbara, I was trying to scream 😱 quietly about the covers. So glad you caught it , just in time! Otherwise, I'm positive you would've made an "inside out" journal look as fabulous as this one! I adore this cover! It's the formula of fabric, book page, and tag, with a button over cloth closure. 🤩👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

I made myself an everlasting journal out of an old dictionary cover. Instead of sewing in the four signatures I put elastic into the cover, traveller's notebook style, which holds the signatures nicely. When it starts to get too fat I take out the finished pages and sew them into a soft cover with a single signature. You could do this once a year so that the smaller journal forms a record of the past year. And you can keep adding pages to your main journal, of course.
@49dragonflies
@49dragonflies 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the tip! I have tried that in the past, but my experience is that the elastic gets loose over time …

That was a complex surgery! It turned out great and your new journal cover is lovely, I really appreciated the dainty blue floral material, that is a fabric you could have a yard of and never get tired of using! The benefit of this effort is next year, when building your yearly planner, you can adjust for size, maybe a quarter or a half year in one journal.

You could lay the cover on the paper and draw around it then stitch 1/4" inside the line, then glue it to the cover so you would have your stitching.

What a relief for you to have this done! I’m sure you thought about this constantly. I’m thinking of the way I do anything creative. I first know that I need to do something (cover)…. Then I think it, eat it, sleep it, dream it. Then I get brave and try to create what’s been in my mind for so long. I’m so glad you caught your boo-boo before the glue had dried. And when you make a mistake, you repair it and show us it’s not the end of the Journal. I just love this new cover. I wondered if you would do something super close to the first one. Or something different. I love it. Another thing I do when I know I can’t sew through something because it’s a real cover or maybe the page I want sewn on is already in my Journal, you can sew on the page you’re gluing down. Figure out where the edges are and sew before you glue it down. Can’t wait to see you decorate these pages. ♥️♥️♥️
@49dragonflies

Thanks Angela! Yes, you are right about the sewing! Seemed like too much trouble 🙈❤️
@angelaarnold4255
@angelaarnold4255 2 жыл бұрын
@@49dragonflies I understand that so well about sometimes the sewing is too much. Lol. I’m home now from my visit with my son. I took a bunch of tags I had cut from 12X12 papers. I glued things, inked, stenciled, used modeling paste (?), gesso, did all kinds of things. Didn’t take my sewing machine with me though. So I got home and I pulled these tags out and put them where I can see them and remember they are waiting for me. Lol (my procrastination gene)! Like you said sometimes it just feels like it’s too much. Lol. But I will sew these. My mind sees them sewn. Lol. Ooohhh!! I also tried that technique you taught us where you wet your paper, scrunch it up and glue it down damp. Then you scrunch the damp paper up as it’s being glued down on heavier paper. I inked the page all up, showing up the lines and wrinkles. I LOVE THIS TECHNIQUE!!!!! It’s so cool!! Lol

Glad to see I am not the only one gluing covers up side down. Was watching Rhonda Winstead video and she was making altered tin mint cans with a journal inside. Well I made 2 gorgeous Mother’s Day tin can with no problem s. Then made a journal to go in side of my daughters tin and journal way to fat and can’t close lid. Journal is gorgeous. I got clamps on it hopefully to flatten more. Ripped rhinestones and buttons out. I can’t make a new one tomorrow is Mother’s and Have to make another journal for the other decorated tin. Journal much thinner but I attempted three times to make cover and my cover was upside down 2x. Then one time inside little journal the book page was upside down. Had to start all over. Ripped up my gorgeous cover. Nothing but problems. But I love the tin cans with journal inside. And I have been sick of and on all week and unable to craft. Now here it’s Saturday got to get busy decorating the booklet. That takes a lot of time. Looking for stuff . My craft table looks like a hurricane struck. I kid you not. But the project turned out gorgeous. Still have to finish the one. Am proud of what I made with tons of mistakes. Unbelievable. I don’t think I was meant to make them. I was going to make 6 only struggling on two. Learning lessons. Thank you Rhonda Winstead for this great adorable project idea. Always enjoy watching your work. It’s gorgeous.

Fab job, Barbara! I'm currently doing something similar. I'm re-visiting my first journals and disassembling them and taking out the areas that are crap or were done poorly, basically giving them a makeover. On the subject of spines, I learnt to put a spine in from Nik the Booksmith on KZfaq. One of her more recent videos and shows excellent techniques that I will continue to use. An absolute gamechanger for me and something very similar to what you are doing in this video. Might be worth checking it out. It's funny, when you're first starting out, you can't bare the thought of ripping into your journal. But, after all these years I have no worries about it at all. I actually look forward to the process and final result. A case in point, your second journal. Love it! Veronica x

Hello Barbara, this is my first reaction on your video's. I am relatively new in the world of Junk Journal making and I love your video's. Also like your book reviews very much. I've picked a few that you have reviewed and so far I agreed with your comments. :-) I write now because, boy, this video was a thriller! One that deserves 5 stars! 😄 At first how you took your original Journal apart... and then with the second one... well, I'm happy to read here that I wasn't the only one who was calling at the screen of my phone: "No, turn it around!" 🙈 You didn't hear me. My husband did. He was asking what was the matter. I said: "She has it inside out!" He gave me a compassionate look. 😁 You did a great job on both the video and the journals and I love how your journals turned out! ❤️
