looks great however there is a better way of making the DRS mechanism. rather than attaching the motor on the supports and ruining the airflow, you can make each support a two part piece and then having a pulley system inside and a mini latch inside the wing, then a motor attached to the chassis. use a strong string to attach the latch to the motor. I can make a CAD model and send you what i mean if you want

cool stuff. here's an idea for your car with the wing. tie it into sensors on the suspension, and also steering angle, and brake sensors. When you are going straight, reduce the downforce for better top end, then when you enter a corner, or brake hard, the wing generates more down force, or as an air brake. might shave some time off each lap.
@coast2coast00
@coast2coast00 3 жыл бұрын
This kinda stuff is on the edge of dangerous though, you need to have stable aero before you brake or turn. It would be much safer to have it tied to GPS, so you could have the wing set and stable before you need it. And then you can have GPS set your diff, brake balance, roll bars, and all your maps corner by corner(all the stuff that's illegal in F1).

Killing it you guys. What great content. But I’d have to agree with what another commenter said. Both of you are great but you need to up your safety gear. methyl ethyl ketone peroxide hardener for your fiber glass is no joke. My uncle developed mental issues after being an auto body guy for years. He would get the sensation of falling down and endless hole. Respirators suck but slowly harming yourself sucks worse. He had to retire due to his health problems. The wing looks amazing though.

@One Little Wanderer absolutely! Plus respirators are pretty cheap. 3m make some at a good price point. Those red checks, light headedness and feeling of blah after breathing resin vapors is your body saying wear a mask. For sanding N95 is just fine. Love watching you guys do your thing just can’t be messing around with those chemicals. That chlorinated brake cleaner is pretty nasty stuff to.

Really nice man! Really nice crew! Karen, Seb and Eva! I'd suggest for finish, getting your self a compressor and a spray gun (I recommend Devilbiis). Reason I suggest this, is if you clear coat your carbon parts they'll look really glossy with way, way less work, also clear coating your machined aluminium parts will keep 'em looking really fresh, shiny and be easy to clean - A compressor will also allow to use air shop tools REAL POWER!

Looking good! That's a sweet design. The talent and experience is really coming along. There is a relatively new process that will solve the issues that come up with the AMG 6.2-6.3 buckets, cams, and phaser lock pins. It's called WPC treatment. It's essentially shot peening with ultra hard ceramic micro beads. Increases durability a minimum of 3x with a hardened compact grain structure on the surface of your parts. Mike at IQ Motorsports has a couple videos on it. They use it for all their builds, even the cylinders. The bonus is that it cuts friction by 80-90%. That's 40hp on a C63 with no additional changes.

I saw your racing video when the hot coolant leak caused the carbon fiber epoxy to soften. There are room temperature laminating epoxies with higher Tg's available. I used West Systems 105 when I first started working with composites, but with a Tg of just 116 F (it's for boats), I moved to Adtech 820, which goes up to 180 F. However, you'll need to cure above 85 F to use the higher Tg resin. Anyway, excellent work!

I have an idea on how to make supports lighter without disturbing airflow. Just mill out a pocket with a lip and possibly some webbing left, then glue in a piece of plastic (or other material) cut to size. Optionally sandwitch or wrap the whole part. Also You should try flow and morph toolpaths out, escpecially on parts with smooth, curved profile.

@@johndeerman2105 I'm not sure what brand or type of vacuum bagging material it is, but we had to make the closed portion ourselves. We just used a large folded sheet, placed double sided tape around the edges, laid on the white fabric, closed it up, and turned on the vacuum to suck out the air! It's a good technique but the downside is you have to leave the vacuum on for a long time. We haven't figured out out to seal it shut without letting air out yet.
