Making a Character in Savage Worlds Adventure Edition

I’ve been intrigued by SWADE for a while now, but have never tried playing it myself. So I though I’d take the opportunity to make up a character and see what the process was like.

The fast furious fun of swingy dice rolls. SWADE, Outgunned and Cypher are my current go to systems when I want to run anything. SWADE is really good at allowing the GM to tweak settings with the rules options. It has great settings. If you are like me and am burnt out on medieval settings there are so many great books out there like Rippers, All For One, ETU, Shotguns and Sorcery, Rifts, Big Apple Sewer Samurai, Sprawlrunners, Interface Zero, Deadlands, Deadlands Noir, Deadlands Lost Colony, Powder Mage, Soloman Kane and of course Pathfinder. If you can think of a setting, if someone has made a book for it, and if not a fan has made it somewhere.

I love Cypher. I have yet to play SWADE but I’ve watched it being played and everyone is having a good time!

@@DMTalesTTRPG The only section in the SWADE core book that I have to review when we play is the Chase mechanic. I like it, but I have to re-read it every time chases come up.

You always do a thorough job with these character generation videos. I ran their free "weird west" starter game solo once. That's my only experience with SW (so far).

Thank you for delving into Savage Wolds, it is my favourite system and it has a lot of potential. Due to it's war gaming roots it offers a very robust tactical fight with enough room for a lot of narrative elements. If you have any questions, I am willing to provide all the help I am able to.

Thanks! And it does it have a specific direct heritage as a war game or just the indirect heritage all tactical RPGs share?

@@DMTalesTTRPG Deadlands, one of the official setting of Savage Worlds was known as The Great Rail Wars which became the core of what we call today Savage Worlds. The Deadlands setting itself is continued as one of the official settings of Savage Worlds even today. You can especially notice it in big fights with more than 20 or so actors. The scene moves incredibly fast for a fight this big.

I played a bunch of Deadlands 1st Ed back in the 90s (early 2000s?). I know a lot of its DNA went into Savage Worlds. I gather the onboarding is a bit easier. Deadlands had a big learning curve, though once everyone got it, it was a really good system.. I've got the new edition and a couple odd supplements. Maybe I'll get it to the table some day.
