As David Lo Pan once said to Jack Colton, "Nice Knife." I also appreciate how the forge noises are captioned automatically as 'Thank You.' Oh, also, can you comment on your choice of grinding the bevels after hardening - I've seen it done both ways.

That is a really beautiful and top quality knife you have made there. Watching you make it has taken me back to the days of my youth when my father and I made various specialised work tools and jigs together. He passed away nearly 35 years ago now, but I still use those tools on a frequent basis with my son. You too have made something practical and useful that can be passed on and cherished. Many thanks. David in the UK.

Nice! I dabble in knife making myself. Never been interested in selling my knives - I give them away to friends and family. I do recommend saving the sharpening for last. Belt sanders have a habit of grabbing things when it’s least expected. Probably why I still have fingers where they’re supposed to be. Best of luck.

@@blackspruce1861 would loved more knives to the collection. unfortunately I have enough bushcraft survival knives already starting with Schrade then Beckers then Ebay customized knives. I'm also through with Katanas and Chinese straight swords. ATM I'm currently on the elven / exotic /orient curved / scimitar sword. phased. Have 3 so far but would like to add 1 scimitar type sword and 1 more dagger about 1' - 2' long. these however I want customized from arts I've seen online. (many layered, heat treated and tempered high carbon 65 ish rockwell and can bend without snapping (sword)) Other than that I need a few more THERMAL binocs and scopes.

I go from 60 grit to around 600 on the blade and the handle from 60 to 1000 then I've started polishing the handle with a soft buffing wheel for the last few knives I've made

Thanks !! thats kinda what started me on knife making he had wanted to do a family knife shop quite a while back and I was very interested so I got into making them too , then we were reminded doing business with family and friends can cause a lot of problems so we didn't and it was definitely for the best I didn't have time for it back then and it may have went very bad. But I do want to sell some knives for sure !

It's definitely nothing special . I took a piece of square stock aluminum and cut it on 2 corners so I had 2 pieces of aluminum angle I clamp my steel between the 2 and it keeps it square . I adjust the grinder to the angle I want

Man this was so cool to watch! What a talent you have... Do you sale any of these knives or is it just a hobby you enjoy ? Also, how did you start doing this and what process would someone interested in doing this go about it ?

awesome I'm glad you enjoyed it !!! I have sold a few now but its been a while since I've made any . I dod enjoy it but I can tell if I made it a job I wouldn't enjoy it for long . I watched some videos built a belt grinder and jumped in . I later upgraded to a new grinder . watch Walter Sorels videos on KZfaq he has tons of info.

@blackspruce1861
@blackspruce1861 4 ай бұрын
I’ve bought some metal from jantz and some from tool steel supply of California I believe it’s called . It’s O1 tool steel . It seems like the stuff from jantz may be a little more rust resistant but is more expensive. But either one will rust if you don’t take care of it
