I gotta say, randomly came across your videos a few days back, and despite having never done any kind of woodworking at all, I love every video that I watch and feel like I have learned a helluva lot from them

Beautiful. I grew up in a cabin, (a wooden yurt technically) that my father built using only old world tools, and thw furniture, dishes, utensils ect all were made this way, with tools such as these.. Thank you for keeping this alive. Slainte

Make sure the wedges don't split the legs... put them across the grain.
@pmacc35575 ай бұрын
What's meant by across the grain? Lines run same direction or 90°?
@glynnL2 ай бұрын
@@pmacc3557I think if you put the wedge in the same line of the grain, it encourages a split in the leg, as you’re essentially creating a break. If you put the line of the wedge perpendicular to the grain, then less likely to split.

@@glynnL oh thanks. My chair making plans are a few months behind as I am renovating/upgrading an old motorbike but rest assured the lure of the wood is never far

If I had to guess he grew up around it, So I can imagine he was either in the shop when he was young with a father or grandfather and kept his interest for wood. (Just a guess on how A lot of young people learn passion for trades)

The hole you drill into the seat is the mortise. The rounded part of the leg that slides into it is the tenon. I enjoyed learning from you the planing skills to shape the legs. Does the linseed oil dry to a hard finish?

How does one know how to cut the legs at the end to make them flush with the ground?
@-Benedict Жыл бұрын
A three legged stool is very stable by nature, so close enough is good enough with leg length. When I make these I just get them as close as I can to equal length, then round over the ends a bit so the stool will find its own level on uneven ground.

Did you ever hear about linseed oil on a rag catching fire on its own ? It’s in my head but don’t know if it’s a fact or just some rahmish a leprechaun told me once ! Anyway be safe 😅

A little advice. Try talking a little slower and get a couple of close up angles of that your doing to really show people. May make your videos about 10 minutes instead of 5 but it would make for a much more enjoyable watching experience
