Making a Yakut knife from an old metal file and a piece of branch stabilized with a polymer. The knife is made in accordance with northern Yakut knife-making design: a simple handle and asymmetrical blade.

beautifully crafted knife I've seen a documentary about the tribes that live with reindeers and their explanation for the shape of the blade was simply that metal is a scarce resource and this indentation allows for a knife of adequate size with less raw materials

Normally, a file is too high in carbon for this to work out well, but this is how tempering keeps the hardness of the file on the edge - yet imparts flexibility into the spine... Perfection. This is what you want. This is high carbon brittle steel being worked at it's finest. A pleasure to watch a master blade smith at work.
