A much requested video with no music (ASMR version). Enjoy the real-time sounds of a day working in my studio - including preparing the porcelain using my Shimpo NVA-04S De-Airing Pugmill. My wheel is the Skutt Professional Wheel.
Watch out for the part where I almost lose the vase haha...
Thanks for watching and please subscribe for more content :)

Nice save! How’s your back hold up to so much throwing? Do you formulate your own glaze?

Yeah my back can get a bit stiff. I don't throw for long hours. Most of my day is spent moving around and being stood up. Yes I use all my own glazes ☺️

Wow , ho visto questo vaso pronto al crollo cinque o sei volte. Bravissimo, base piccolissima per quel vaso

Nice video! The real time audio is quite nice, it was raining all day in LA and your video is calming. Surprised that you don’t listen to music while throwing. And wow 6:30 was so close! Can I ask how thick the clay was when it gets wobbly?

Thank you! I do listen to music while throwing which is why I'll typically put other music over the top of the audio to avoid any issues when uploading to KZfaq, but I frequently get asked for videos at real-time speed with the sounds of the wheel instead :) I would guess the clay was probably about 3mm thick at that point.

Novice question about forming vase: Around 3.14 you appear to collar in at the base to make it narrower. My pottery tutor advised me not do this because he claims it throws the pot off centre and yet I see many experienced YT potters collar in at the base. Is it just a matter of having 'advanced' skill to be able to successfully collar in at the base without throwing a vase off centre? I don't want to miss out on acquiring this skill as it looks a useful way to accentuate the lower part of the curve of a vase...

The reason for pushing the vase in at the base is to mainly give a better shape but it also gives me more clay to pull up into the vase. Its quite easy to knock the pot off centre during this step but it's definetly something to practice 👍🏼

Another way of accentuating the lower part of a vase is careful trimming. It's also a useful skill to learn.
