I think it came out nice for a first attempt and I give you credit for confidence to do it on the actual piece you needed instead of doing a piece of test foam. Rock on!

Good start Dave. You might want to try using a base coat of paint, grey brown or whatever and then different colour washes. Dry brushing can really bring things alive but try using different colours and several applications, the more colours the better. Also you need to try smaller more artsy brushes and ditch the house painting ones. I was where you're at about three years ago but now my scenery skills are much better. Do a little dry brushing on the rocks you put at the bottom of your piece and see them come alive. Keep up the good work.

You might also consider Ceiling Tiles. Places with damaged ones will give them to you. They have asbestos in them. Do EVERYTHING outside and wear gloves and a mask. When done, then heavily coast with paint or dullcoat. I use this method all of the time.

Your results look very good. :) That "wet-on-wet" technique seems very interesting. I will have to try that. Suggestion 1 : Next time, start with the lighter colours first and layer darker ones on top. To bring out the cracks and crevasses, use very watered down black paint and let it flow into them. You can use a Kleenex to dab up any excess. Dry brushing with white paint using a narrow square profile artist's brush works much better than a house-painting brush. Suggestion 2 : Plants -- grasses, small bushes and shrubs -- will be attempting to grow between the rocks (talus) at the bottom of your cliff. So don't be afraid to add some of that clump foliage here and there as well. I didn't see you do it in the video, nor did you mention doing it; but did you take some watered down white glue or some Woodland Scenics "Scenic Cement" to hold the talus in place ? The glue you spread along the foam base will hold many of the rocks fairly well, but not all. To prevent the surface ones from falling or being knocked off, saturate the area with diluted glue to lock them in place.

Ok couple of points...probably went a little darker than you wanted with the black ..its just supposed so be a light wash to get into the cracks but really after that basically got the idea " nothing in nature is 1 colour" one other thing when you paint thin things( like that platform( always paint both sides )) as the paint will tend to shrink the painted side so it will likely curl up...and when doing rock fall...you wall is multi colour so should the rock fall be .those static grass applicator generally work well ( with 2 as batteries) but you need to work close and slowly and yes the dive may touch ground and itll spark ...after a few of those you'll learn to judge space lol

Iv always used rock moulds but the way u did it much easyer looks very good too

sculpting with a heat gun in styrofoam can have quite nice effects if applied "gently" 😋 do it outside tho , watch out for toxic fumes ! 🤢 or fire ! lol 🤣

I thought the formation looked like Glacial striations had carved there way into the stone, Get a Negative Ion Generator that will fit in your diy applicator thats all the pro ones have, I`ve bought a chinese applicator just to shoe horn in an ion generator, I might get another to make a tray for tufts

Try putting down a base coat of earthy brown colours as a base coat to simulate dirt under bushes and grass.

Plaster Paris is an organic form and will draw bugs! Hydrocal is what you want. Scultamold is also organic. Roaches love it!

Try airbrushing your scenery. You’ll use less paint and you can fade the colors.
