You can buy 1kg of silicone rubber mix on ebay for about $25 might be a bit easier, following the same principle just pour it into your mold.

Ive seen a lot of people use heat guns to get the air bubbles out of their cast resin. Would that still work with these molds? Or do you use the pressure pot because of how these molds are made?
@danthemakerman

Nicely done. Have you ever used compressed air for demolding? As in you use an air nozzle and slip it in between the mold and the silicone and hit it with a burst of air to break the seal.

If I used GE 100% silicone that is mold resistant would that keep it from setting up? I tried this and my silicone is still very sticky after several days. And I use this same silicone As a glue substitute to make yard art with glass and it sets up within 30 minutes. Maybe I just didn't use enough of the soap. I think I might stick to the cornstarch method and it would be cheaper.
@TobyFireandSteel
@TobyFireandSteel 3 жыл бұрын
Corn starch does ultimately make it cheaper because it bulks it up. Im sure yours should work fine. The more you knead it the faster it goes off. My first one i did took several days before I could demold it and stunk for weeks. Maybe wait a few more days

Hi I'm confused as to what you mean. The silicone will possibly take a day or two to cure depending on how well you kneaded it. Once you have demolded it you can possibly use it immediately but I would wait till its full dry if the water also. Before pouring resin in it

So real quick are you putting them in a vacuum to remove air bubbles? Not everyone has one.
@TobyFireandSteel
@TobyFireandSteel 4 жыл бұрын
Hi good question but no I didn't do this with these as the silicone is too dense for the vacuum to draw bubbles out. I tend to take them out of mold and if I find any holes or voids I push the silicone gun nozzle into void and fill it up. Thanks for watching 👍
@tishamanda36
@tishamanda36 4 жыл бұрын
@@TobyFireandSteel I figured that. I attend Stan Winston we work in silicone daily. Im asking about the resin. You set the resin in the mold than put it in the vacuum. Are you doing that purely to release air bubbles?
@TobyFireandSteel
@TobyFireandSteel 4 жыл бұрын
Oh right cool. None put my resins in a pressure pot not a vacuum chamber. Resin in a vacuum chamber is problematic and can cause much more bubbles. Where as a pressure pot compresses the bubbles so small they become invisible to the naked eye.
