If you start with the spout of that 5gal bucket at the TOP, and then rotate it as the level drops you won't need to drill a vent and the silicone will come out a lot easier.

I have difficulty getting my silicone out of its container without getting it everywhere as there isn't a pouring spout in the lid, does your silicone come with that spout or did you add it later? Vacuum gauges read in inches of Mercury, or "Hg. A "full" (ideal) vacuum at sea level is about 29.9" Hg, but the higher in altitude you are located at the lower the inches of Mercury will be, for example "full" vacuum 2,000 feet above sea level would be closer to 27.5" Hg. The gauge is measuring the rate of the volume increase of Mercury under vacuum. The higher the inches of Mercury in your vacuum chamber, the better the rate of air being pulled out of your silicone or resin is

Eric, could you please recommend a good food grade silicone for molding?

Give smooth-on a call, they'll have a tech guide you to the right silicone. Many silicones are food grade, but it can depend on what you are using it for, some silicones are only food safe at room temp or colder, but are not food safe with hot materials.
