Making a Sword Rack on a CNC Router

Having been a way from the shop for a bit too long HandsOnCNC finds his router covered with Swords! Finding himself with a new project. Follow along as we go through the whole pipeline from idea to making a thing using a CNC router, Fusion 360 CAD & CAM and solve a (pretty nerdy) real world problem.

Liked your video and explanation. Just starting to use Fusion 360 - there's a lot to learn but it's very capable. Cheers

Thanks, I appreciate that. Fusion 360 is great at democratizing CAD/CAM being free for hobbyists and amazing at both. Used to be you had to buy a CAM program separate and deal with export and import issues between CAD & CAM if your living life at the hobbyist level, it was a total PITA.. Serious props to Autodesk!

You seem really nice, and the presentation was solid. But it seems like a pretty boring design for a guy with access to a CNC machine. Who is your expected audience, 14 year olds? I feel like I wasted 20 minutes and could have knocked one of these out with a hand saw in less time than watching the video.

To each there own.. and there are parts that would be easy to knock out.. I can say from experience that getting the locking geometry right by hand is very fickle, and that they do take more than 20 minutes to make with hand tools (having made plenty of them with hand tools before). Plus no one said this was an advanced project ;-).. But I am glad you liked the presentation..

I did like the presentation. Would love to see you make an "advanced" version of this project and see what you come up with. I'm currently trying to find designs to replicate from the 17th century but it's tricky. Most museums seem to display their collections not as they would have been stored historically.
