Making a Trivet with Rounded Edges

Күн бұрынThis small trivet project might seem relatively simple, but it requires quite a bit of machining and prep work. A Magswitch Universal Featherboard helps make all the cuts easier and more safe.

A second piece could be created using the off-cuts from the ends. Take the corner cuts and glue them to the inside of the inner piece. This should reinforce the narrow ends of each and form a new arc. All the slots should line up easily. Size the length so it will nest under the first trivet for a set of two. Thanks for the video.

I tried this method on a 22-44 Performax belt, but it took forever to rinse the “soapy suds” off of the belt… I never was able to get it all off before I gave up and rolled it up to let it dry. It took over a week to dry… there were some of the more clogged / raised burned or resin build up that was easier removed, but it was not as clean and I would have hoped. I will have to use it on the drum sander to see how it works. Thank You for the suggestion.

I was able to make a second trivet with the offcuts. It looks like a football. Great project. Wife loves them.

I glued all six of the end pieces together and cut the notches then ripped them in two so they would be lined up perfect. Actually cut them with the old radial arm saw that’s been sitting in the corner forever.

How do you finish it. Do you do the finishing before gluing in the slats?
