Making an Origami Leather Coin Pouch
I decided to make a leather coin pouch out of natural vegetable tanned leather to keep all the change in my car organized. Making a leather coin pouch is a fun leather crafting project because you can make leather coin pouch patterns as difficult or simple as you want. In making this leather coin pouch design, I decided to use a folded gusset style that my favorite leather company, Redmoon, has used for years. The folded origami-style design stores very slim while holding coins, but the leather coin pouch we made is very secure.
I made this origami-like leather coin pouch out of natural vegetable tanned leather, with polyester threads. I sun tanned and oiled the exterior piece vegetable tanned leather before building the leather coin pouch, and left the interior of the coin pouch natural so that it can age and patina on it's own.

@MelodicWolf origami refers to something being made out of paper and using only folds to hold its original shape with no cuts, glue, or stiching, this is the farthest thin from origami, its just in the title to draw in people who dont know what it is
@Foozo
@Foozo 5 жыл бұрын
@MelodicWolf but he pierced the fabric and added a button to keep it closed, from box to pouch, its still the furthest thing from origami, i guess if i had a house and painted it red, i could call it a barn

Agreed. Origami is single sheet with multiple complex folds...no cuts nor sew. The title is bullshit.

@MelodicWolf so if i fold something then staple it and glue it to retain the original folds shape its still origami? wow those paper books really make, making a paper crane look hard when i could have cut out the shape and glued pieces together
@Foozo
@Foozo 5 жыл бұрын
@MelodicWolf if you believe this is origami you are missing a lot of sense, if something is folded it is not origami, Origami means to not have any cuts, glue's, stiching ect to retain the shape of the folds. thats why this video is click bait, Why are you defending it? why isnt this called Folded Leather Coin Pouch?

Why... can’t it be inspired by origami? The folds are clearly emulating the folds made in so many of the traditional origami paper bases. I don’t understand why anyone is making a big issue out of it. It was a beautifully crafted wallet, a well shot video, well-meaning and aptly titled/inspired -and all you have to say is, “take out origami”? So unnecessarily fussy.

@@Corter x-acto instead of the olfa craft knife. although i agree the olfa is a better version, shorter blade bends less when cutting radii. Edge Beveler is different from weavers, dunno what brand. And the rotary punch looks like a CS osborne? Its just i like to buy tools based on what i see professionals in vidoes use so I know they are the choice among pros
@Corter
@Corter 5 жыл бұрын
the edge beveler actually is a Weaver beveler :) had it for about 8 years now and it's my fav! Rotary punch is some old piece I got on ebay when I was 19 (well over a decade ago), there's no branding on it but the Weaver link has a similar quality piece with the same size punches. I prefer x-acto's because I've got giant hands, and the x-acto handle is larger and more comfortable for me. However the olfa is a better fit for most people who, unlike me, aren't around 6 and a half feet tall :) so that was a very specific choice because I don't want people buying this giant chunky knife handle and not being able to cut comfortably.

It's called 'pockets' in the modern world. Coin currency will unfortunately never make a comeback. Endurance is too long. Job security making new bills and such. Too easy to fool people with counterfeit. Cards, and very soon invasive biometrics. Sure would be nice to have $5-10-20 coins. Nevermore...
