Making little cakes of beeswax from silicone molds. The beeswax cake is an essential item for hand sewing to strengthen the thread and make it glide through the fabrics easier. This is a fun craft for those rainy or snowy days, and they make great gifts!

Yarns:
* Maysville Carpet Warp, which can be found at several different weaving supply places (I often use WEBS at www.yarn.com). It comes in more than 70 colors on an 800 yard spool for about $9, so it can be used in a number of projects and the price is very reasonable.
* 20/2 or 60/2 silk from Eowyn de Weaver on Etsy. Each cone is $30 and comes in 18 different colors. There are also small 100 yard spools that run $5 each and comes in more than 2 dozen colors.
* Pearl cotton, size 8, which can be found is most craft stores in a bunch of colors.
Sewing:
* I use 100% linen from Linen-Store.com in the IL019 weight for my tunics. The quality of their linen is very good, their prices are very reasonable and shipping is fast! Use "ILOVELINEN" in the discount code for an additional 7% off!
Cards:
* 2 1/2" wide (63 mm) made on a 3D printer, a pattern designed by my husband. Free downloadable patterns of other tablets are available on Thingiverse (this one is not my pattern--we are still working the kinks out of the design but these cards are Oseberg reproductions: www.thingiverse.com/thing:180...)
* 3 1/4" cards from Schacht Spindle Company, which run $8 for 25 cards. I love these because they are colored on the edges and they are thin but very durable. Similar cards are made by Lacis but without the colored edges.

This truly made my heart sing. It was relaxing, and you could tell the amount of love you put into them. My mother came to me a few years ago and handed me a box filled with my passed grandmothers sewing supplies. Inside was a block of beeswax. I nearly cried in joy. Thank you for bring back that memory.

Ooooh! Now I know what I'm going to do with the silicone madeline pan I have that I haven't used in ages, but can't bring myself to pass on. I happen to have a metric crapton of wax from a local beekeeper that I bought for a project that only needed a fraction of the quantity. Thanks for the idea!

I put a loop of golden string in them beforvthe wax hardens so they can double as ornaments and later Grace the recipients sewing boxes

We use it in beadweaving too. Helps the thread slide through the tiny hole of a seed bead.

I made the mistake of using one of the lumps of beeswax burr comb straight from my hives (first year) for trying to wax some very fuzzy linen threads so the sticky beeswax picked up all kinds of fuzz... so I used my solar wax melter (a sheet of glass over an insulated cooler with a silicone baking dish at the bottom to catch wax dripping through holes punched in a metal pie plateusing a paper towel as a strainer ) to strain the fibres out of the lump (used paper towels make great camfire or fireplace starters). And one of these days I will make enough room in the meadery to start a batch using the rinsings from my cappings from this harvest and will melt all this summer's little chunks from my solar wax melter together and make cakes in my silicone muffin tins (reasonable size for later use), plus some for sewing in my silicone mini muffin tin...

I use a beeswax salve before knitting/crocheting and it actually makes such a difference. Not just for my hands but the finished project looks just a bit neater.

@@beverleybee1309 It makes beads slide easier, thread doesn't tangle and adds structure. And if not using Nemo or other beading thread, it preserves the thread from rotting.

These are very pretty, but not practical. I filter my own capping and pour it all directly into a 2 ounce tin to keep it clean and easy to use. I used to have a round wooden box for this purpose that my grandmother gave me, but it was lost ages ago. These will get dirty quickly.

I have not had that experience with similar ones I’ve purchased online. I keep them wrapped in a little bit of parchment paper in a small tin when not in use.

I have a wax cake in the shape of a Fleur-de-lis that has been bumping around my sewing kit for a couple years and it still looks fine.

@@elewysoffinchingefeld3066 if you melted it, it would leave a significant amount of sediment and lint in the bottom of your vessel.
