Making Foam Skulls with Pacific Mold Design molds

I am going to make a wall of skulls, essentially in the style of a catacombs wall. In order to make this wall, I need it to be lightweight and durable.
This is my 1st video in an upcoming series as I make this wall for Halloween 2021! I will make more vids as I make my catacomb wall.
After seeing the issues being had with the spray gun, I figured I'd ask a friend of mine who is a professional FX artist. He said that foams can collapse due to not only Vaseline, but also from the chemicals found in the propellants in any spray cans. So following his advice, I got some great 2-part foam stuff and gave it a shot. I like the results! I just have to get over the fact that these things take 3 hours in total to do. But hey! I have 4 molds, and if i do a few a day, I should have enough in a few weeks 😅 I will post updates as I go along with it!

@@artistictalent I should have said I ordered the molds a few weeks ago and I'm just now trying to figure out what to do with them. Heh. I did look into that foam but I'm new to using these molds and didn't know if it'd be safe for them or not, so I was glad to see your video pop up and show me exactly what to do.

I’m back. I’m about to finally try this foam. Question did you need to reapply the mold release between each skull. I’m assuming not because that would have been a PIA for your big project. Thanks again for sharing your knowledge with us this is awesome

Originally I was but then I forgot at one point and it was perfectly able to slide right off so I reapplied after every 3rd skull. However I always did poor just a little bit extra in those deep crevice areas. I'm talking like just a little thimble worth of liquid being brushed along those areas. Hope that helps!

Did you have any issues when painting or putting a finish on them? Not sure if the release agent created challenges

Nope not in particular. What helped was to have it laying on its back on some parts, and having a step stool with me for others. Otherwise the release agent didn't prevent the paint from sticking.
