Imagine the robin thinks he is the star in the videos and tells what Peter is doing: " And here you can see how Peter shakes the worms out of the root ball by turning and moving the tree a little. Sometimes he uses other methods to get the worms out that are very ineffective, like putting wire on the tree and bending it. Well, that also results in getting some worms out, but I think he needs to rethink that method..."

I have been so enjoying your latest videos. Especially the one where walked around and demonstrated how many plants you found in the yard that he could us as free bonsai material. Here again in this video your showing that even plants that look to like they’d never make a suitable bonsai. Peter not only is an excellent teacher with a wealth of knowledge to share, but he also makes a conscious effort to show that bonsai is accessible to anyone with limited investment. Most, if not all, of the most popular bonsai channels on KZfaq are nearly the opposite. Cost was always what kept me from getting into Bonsai, and I thought that way because those channels never offer alternative options for costly materials. I’d always thought that was such a shame. After I discovered Peter Chan, my thinking changed for the better forever. Thank you again for showing me and so many others that anyone can start practicing bonsai. BTW....who thinks Peter is a wizard or Disney Prince or something because he’s got robins landing on his hands while he works? Looks like paradise!

These "rubbish" trees, after Peters touch, so much resemble the work of Nature and have a quality that transcends the grandiose traditionals. I think the second juniper despite all its traditional issues still makes for a very pleasant overall effect when all of its unusual features are considered in concert. If the foliage is further refined with a little more wiring and after some new growth comes in over the next couple years, I think the tree will probably appeal very strongly to certain customers who like a natural look.

LOL just re-watched this after a long gap this year. I initially didn't get distracted by the robin. Robin has appeared in many other videos, so I thought I was immune. Then I listened to the first three mins, thinking (as is the case) "Why do I like listening to Peter so much... well, I suppose it's because in a lot of the vids he's done, and from being at the nursery, Herons gives off a very relaxed feel.... it's not about detail so much as enjoying the tree... see, he's doing it again, he's not super critical, he's just telling you some of the ways to enjoy this entire thing we call bonsai.... ahhhh." Then at 3:00,when he's just said "Inexperienced people try to wire the big branches, but the little branches will always look better, do you see?" And the robin peeked round the tree with an expression of "Oh really, fascinating, where are the worms in the meantime?!" Nearly fell of my chair laughing. Then had to re-watch a couple of times. Great video as always, and not just for The Robin!

The second tree that you removed the bark (jinned?) off of the back short branch; gave the whole tree a good measure of depth. Lovely. A well-known artist once told me, that, when you think you are almost done, leave it for an hour, or a day, then go back to it. seventy percent of the time, you find that your work is finished. And as you said, always step back once in a while as you work on a project, to get a better perspective, a feel, for your project. I have not not learned something each and every time I watch your videos. Thank=you, dear sir.

Good morning Peter. In addition to doing something incredible with difficult material, it teaches us that all art implies innovation, that it is good to recognize a bad decision, that is absurd to spend time on what no longer has a solution or that sometimes you have to get away from a problem to find a solution. And all this working bonsai with a little bird flying between his arms. Marvelous.
