This video is about how I transitioned to a Low Carb High Fat or Ketogenic way of eating. The first three weeks are key!
Understanding the science, using affirmations to survive just one day at a time, and creating new habits with regards to cooking and eating were extremely important to my success.

Hi Kristie. I have felt like a failure on LCHF because I have not lost weight. It has now occurred to me that I am succeeding because I am not putting on weight. I also have got bored with my food and so I am watching your videos and planning to try them out, bit by bit. I identify with you on your failure video. Keep on showing me that this way of eating works. You are one of my inspirations!

Hi Kristie! I've been lchf for 4 months now though it wasn't until the last week or so that it seems that I've become keto-adapted. I originally started eating this way because I was diagnosed as pre diabetic. I was able to get my blood sugar under control within the first month. As of today I'm down 19 pounds. While my success with my blood sugar and weight loss has been wonderful I had gotten discouraged because I was still feeling so tired. Watching videos made by you and others like you have made it much easier for me to push forward toward the goal of becoming keto adapted. Now that I'm there it was totally worth the effort! Thank you so much for the effort that you put into your videos and the encouragement that those of us that watch them receive!

You hit so many of my struggles in this video. I am a non-medicated person with diabetes. A Keto diet has allowed me to stop all meds. But the struggle is so real especially in family and social situations. Thank you for these beautiful encouraging words. Continued health and God’s blessings on you and your family.

I wish I could give you a big hug! Honestly, I don’t think any of us have “failed” at past diet, exercise or lifestyle changes. Every single time any of us has tried something is a huge win. I replaced the word “failure” with the word “learning”. Trying something new is an awesome opportunity to learn something new about yourself. Was I able to live my life eating gallons of cabbage soup? Nope. Did thinking of every food item as so many points work for me? Nope. There was no fault or blame; those attempts were valid, but they weren’t what my body needed. As you pointed out in this post, understanding the science truly does make the difference; however, if you never show up to try, you’ll never have the opportunity to know. Good or not so good, every day we live is ours to claim, and no time is wasted if you use it to move forward in a positive way. Thank you for sharing all that you have learned. You’re helping me to have a happier and healthier journey!❤️

Just found your videos. I have been doing low carb for about two and one half months. So far I have lost about 20 pounds - a lot by trial and error. I am finally understanding WHAT I am doing. I made a lot of mistakes with wrong choices at first, but I am learning. You have been so much help because I started at about the same place you were. I am so encouraged to find someone has succeeded with this lifestyle. Will be watching more of your videos to get up to speed.

I honestly was fearful starting keto that because we live in SC, having my mother-in-law's amazing cooking all the time, working at a university where someone brings in goodies every day...I feared another failed attempt at losing weight. I'm only a month in and feel completely different already. I'm so glad I found you at the start - you've shown that living in the south doesn't have to mean living with carbs and the heartache of being overweight. I can't WAIT for your holiday recipes!

I haven't seen your videos until today. I think it was a prayer that I clicked to watch it and I am so happy I did. So many of us are trying to get healthy and we have been where you were at one time in our life. You are easy to listen to and share what we need to hear. Special people don't come in my life very often but you are a blessing. I appreciate you so much. I started doing just what you did in that I have to tell myself little affirmations to get through and I am still being sabotaged by family in "Oh you like this" " I bought this for you because I know you like them" I am done agreeing with them, I now say in my mind this is poison and I need to care about me, no one else cares or sees my struggles all they see is the fat over weight person they like to eat with. You have encouaged me to stick with my goals and not let any one bully me with food. Keep up the good work, and Thank You again.

Dear Kristie, I have been watching your videos for a few weeks. I have a friend who lost 30 lbs on keto. I am 50 is lbs overweight, have rheumatoid arthritis and fibromyalgia. So, exercise is painful! !!! Started keto woe, lost 10 lbs in 2 weeks. I feel hopefully and very importantly, I feel that it is manageable, sustainable and tasty! I do not like meat very much, and I am learning to overcome fat phobia. so, I am so touched by your lifestory/experience and feel so grateful that you share to inspire and support others, like me and others in a worse situation! !! Thanks for your generosity and loving kindness! May I say, you look so lovely! !!! Hugs and let us keto on and on! Many blessings.

Kristie, I also found that the affirmation , just for “today” is so powerful.. you’re actually tricking the mind to accepting your choice of refusing that desired food for that day only!… I also found taking the new life change one day at a time. That way my mind didn’t go in to shock or starvation mode, and mentally shutdown the “liveit” not diet program I was constantly finding ways to not allow my mind to notice that I was losing weight, When ever it occurred in the pass I know it may sounds crazy lol however it’s like my subconscious mind would wake up and say hey! what are you trying to do?… you know you’re suppose to be FAT! and my livit problem and results I had achieved would then be sabotage.before I got before I knew it. Kristie you’re truly an inspiration. Thanks for sharing

I'm so happy that you are able to say what most of us watching feel. I too have tried every plan imaginable, with exception of those where you buy "their" food. No reason to go that route as I knew I'd never last. Low fat and WW? Just stayed hungry. Actually did better years ago on the supervised "Medi" plan with protein shakes and shots than low fat. At least I wasn't always dreaming of my next meal. Since coming back to lc, and this time taking the time to learn more about it, I'm feeling like a whole new world has opened up. Thanks for helping keep me interested and showing me that it can be a lifestyle for those of us that not only love to eat, but also love to cook.

+Peggy Ramp You might find that eating those "few" off plan things actually make the cravings worse. It's true for some people. I find the longer I go without those things the more I don't miss them. And I find that even a bite of something shows me how my tastes have changed.

I went off plan due to family issues which I have decided was no excuse. I have started back on plan and I want to do this for me. You are such an inspiration and I had to say thank you. I have been heavy all my life. I have been diagnosed with Migraines, High blood pressure, High Cholesterol, High Triglycerides, Asthma, Arthritis, Fibromyalgia, PCOS, Crohn's Disease, and I have an abscess in my back that is causing problems with a bulging disc and sciatica. I was on 8-10 medications daily and 1 monthly. I am happy to say that I am now only taking 2 prescriptions daily.

Wow we have tried all of the same "diets" even the eat spring. You did not fail, these things failed you. NOW as you said we know the science behind losing via what they now call Keto but this is actually how my parents and grandparents ate. My dad even drank his morning black coffee with butter in it. HA. He was "bulletproof" long before this phrase was coined. Unfortunately, I was desperate to eat the New craze of FAST FOOD and a McDonald's was built in our neighborhood. I started working and going to college...sitting for long periods and u guessed it... eating more and more fast food. I wish I had followed my parents' teaching but BETTER LATE THAN NEVER!!! KETO has given me the key to enjoy delicious fresh foods, desserts, with no cravings and a lovely remembrance of things my parents did and tried to reach me. Bless you

+Rebecca McCune So glad you said that as I've always HATED that phrase. As someone who was ALWAYS hungry, not much felt better than food. If it was high carb and I could bury my feelings, it was all the better. It wasn't until I found lchf and finally wasn't hungry that I could begin to understand, just slightly, why folks would say that.

But to get back to pain, I know what you went through, I'm still going through it, including the ESI. But anyway, the past 3 days it's been chronic through my body. where to begin is tough for a lot of folks. like most things, I jumped in head first and a few months later looked back and wondered how'd this happen? lol! You're actually very fortunate that your doctor is on board. Far too many folks I know have not had the support of their doctor. in fact, I've known one man who made incredible progress with lchf--no longer taking statins, no blood pressure meds, no longer on insulin or another diabetes med, labs finally under control when previously they had been scarey. doctor had a fit that he wasn't on meds and was following lchf! he is managing his health far better thru his diet than with meds but the dr is angry about the diet?! he's looking for a new doctor.

I'm so glad I found your channel! I did low carb years ago and loved it, but for various reasons have gotten away from it. I'm diabetic, and know that it's time to get serious again and lose the carbs. I'm looking forward to trying some of your recipes. :)

+Lisa Carrasco Oh I've known so many diabetics who have managed the disease for over a decade by eating this way. It's amazing that it doesn't HAVE to be a progressive disease. You don't HAVE to be on medication. You don't HAVE to suffer with any of the associated effects.

Yes! I've watched Sarah's TedTalk and then all her other vidoes. She's who made me decide that I have to do low carb again. It's just hard getting started. It's been a good 8 years since I've been all low carb and it seems like there's a lot of new info, like the importance of eating fat. Now I can make sense of all those fat bomb recipes on pinterest.

I just found your KZfaq channel through a link from another channel. He was cooking your amazing biscuits. Anyhow, I saw this video and I normally don’t stay interested for very long with these types of vids. But, you had my attention the whole time. I’ve just started eating the Keto lifestyle and had a similar moment when I stopped and realized that I can do this forever. Thank you for taking the risk of putting your story out there and telling us that, “ just for today I can do this”.

Hi Kristie! Loved this video so much! Your story resonates with me. I have about 70 pounds to lose. I am trying really hard to lose this weight. I believe I have insulin resistance. I have been watching Dr Eric Westman videos and I purchased your cookbook “Day by Day”. I sat down with it yesterday and read it for several hours. You did an excellent job writing it. There are so many recipes I want to try also. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for sharing your story. You are an inspiration to me. I feel like I really can do this.❤️

Thank you so much for your videos! My fiancé and I are in the first week of our new ketogenic lifestyle. We had to change our diet for medical reasons, which seemed daunting at first. I am a research hound and learned the science behind the diet but had no clue what to do in the kitchen. Your videos have been an inspiration and have given me hope that we'll be able to stay healthy a long time with this lifestyle. I can't thank you enough!

Thank you so much for sharing your story and all your wonderful recipes! Listening to your describe your reaction to yeast rolls really hit home. I now so STRONGLY associate bread and pasta (wheat) with pain, it no longer really tempts me. Friends frequently suggest that I can cheat "just this once", that it's "not a big deal". There were days last year, before I went wheat free, that I was in so much pain I was in tears. Like you, I now love myself enough to let go of those foods that DON'T love me! I like your description of the busy little insulin workers going around and making you fat... That's an awesome visual.

This information is really helpful Kristy, thank you!! I'm going to look for these books and read up. Picturing the insulin tucking away the fat in cells is a great visual to help keep away from carbs:) I had the acupuncture in my ears when I was about 12 or 13 and maybe only 20 lbs overweight. It's amazing that our local hospital did that treatment, isn't it?! It didn't work for me either. It makes me sad that as a child I had that done. Trying new recipes and cooking Keto is a lot more fun and gets better results! I've still got a long way to go but am determined. Thank YOU for sharing all your great information to help with the journey!!

Ginny Schlorff You're so right about the measures we put ourselves through even as children. Taubes talks about how horrible it is to be hungry and how no one wants to be obese. It spoke to me so powerfully. I need to find that quote. It changed my life! Keto is a lot more fun. Not only CAN I eat this way for the rest of my life, but it's exactly what I intend to do.

Another awesome video :) I was wondering about the rings. I figured the ones on your middle finger were the originals and the ones on your ring finger were a reward from your lovely hubs! You touch on really topics because when changing habits, old thinking still creeps in from time to time and it's so important to recognize it and practice the new habits without the stigma of feeling "deprived". I've always had a relationship with sugar and i've done several diets throughout the years as well and each time i'd lose weight, id end up gaining more and more.. it's a cycle of losing/gaining and that's SO bad on the body! I was even a fitness competitor and featured in two fitness magazines but the struggle of my sugar addiction was every day and it consumed me!!! Since I stopped competing I didnt know how to be healthy without my coach and I had zero accountability so I naturally put ALL my weight back on PLUS some tipping the scale at my highest ever. I couldnt go back to the competitors diet because I knew i would be miserable so thankfully the Keto diet came across my lap and I started researching and i'll tell you what, i havent lost a whole lot of weight yet but the FREEDOM of not wanting sugar or other foods I cheating on in the past are not important to me. I'm not counting down days, hours, seconds until I can cheat. I look forward to eating butter with shrimp and peppejack cheese and WOW my new lover is coconut oil! It's truly life changing for me and these videos are so great because I'm not looking for someone to "teach me how to stay on track" but rather YAY someone else is as passionate about this as I am!

Jeanette Kappler Wow! You've got quite a story! And you've hit on a "truth" for me. This way of eating has given me a freedom from food that is difficult to explain. I've lived with it my entire life until now. I don't have to keep snacks with me because of hunger and low blood sugar. I can, and do, skip meals, and I feels so good to stare down high carb crap and WIN!!!
