Losing weight is something with which I have struggled my ENTIRE life. In this video I outline my struggle. About 15 minutes into it I share what happened that changed my life. I'll warn you that I'm at total cry baby at the end, but y'all asked for my story and here it is complete with the ugly cry.

@@CookingKetowithKristie Those negative reviews probably from Walter Willett and David Katz, two of the most conflicted physicians around, and that's saying a lot in the medical realm! I hope you are following Nina Teicholz and The Nutrition Coalition, Kristie. They are trying to present evidence-based nutrition to the masses, and of course meeting unbelievable resistance from those who wish to keep America (and the rest of the world thanks to the guidelines) suffering.

I was just looking in a mirror as I watched this video. I also had Gastric Bypass in 2004 my highest was 373lbs my lowest was 220lbs and I am currently at 260lbs. I feel like a WLS failure I never got under 200lbs and never really changed the way I ate. I dump on sugar and fried foods thanks to the Lord or I would have gained it all back and more. Today I started a new plan and decided that I must do low carb and no refined sugar. Sugar and carbs are like cocaine for me and truly the thought of not eating them terrifies me but I cannot continue to live like this. I believe that your video popping up on KZfaq when I searched Keto Diet to see if that might work for me is a sign from God. I am still scared out of my chubby skin but I cannot give up. I am exhausted, depressed, sleep deprived, in constant joint pain and have had 4 knee surgeries. I can't concentrate and my current state is keeping me from having the confidence to take the real estate exam so I can start a new career at the age of 53. Thank you Thank you Thank you for being out there.

The way I see it, it's not your fault. You've been misinformed. The doctors and the AMA told people for decades that eating a high carbohydrate/high fiber/low fat diet would make you healthy and prevent heart disease. Instead it turned people obese and diabetic (and did nothing for heart disease). Then, you were told that a gastric bypass would fix everything. But unless you make dietary changes, like removing carbohydrates, it fails in the long term. But, a low carbohydrate diet could have helped in the first place, making the gastric bypass unnecessary. And the surgery itself is not without risks. My sister-in-law died from an infection caused because her bypass incision wouldn't heal. Now, a coworker, who thought gastrict bypass surgery was the answer to all her problems, is regaining weight, because she was never told to restrict carbohydrates. She was only told to restrict FOOD. It's so sad.

Kristie, I am in tears watching this story. My favorite part is where you ask your friend to pray for you, because at that time you had tried everything. I know that feeling very well. It's my favorite part because, God answered your prayer, Kristie. And He did it above and beyond what your heart even know what to pray for. He gave you your life back, He gave you an existence nearly pain free, losing weight constantly, eating foods you truly enjoy, and all at the same time while being an amazing inspiration to countless people just like you. Your* misery has become your MINISTRY and your pain has become the FREEDOM to the masses. God bless you and what you do. Keep being a light. God is going to continue to use you to bring knowledge, power, and freedom to the multitude! Blessings!

Thank you Kristie. I appreciate you sharing your story and I can only imagine how difficult it was to put it together. So many of can relate to much of the story. When you started talking about spending quality time with your kiddos, I could relate and the tears started flowing as well. Not because I couldn't play with the kids, but because of my health getting out of control along with the weight, I did not have the energy to play with my grandchildren. I've been an absent grandma in many ways, but letting them bake with me. Not sure that is how I want them to remember me. My daughter turned me on to Keto and it took a couple years before I could get my mind wrapped around it. I'm so glad I did. I'm almost 1/2 way through till my goal. Staying KETO strong!

I still have more weight to lose, but this way of eating has changed my life completely. Thanks so much for sharing your story.

NO don't do keto. Keto to is a very poor diet as it has high saturated fat and cholesterol which will higher your chance of heart disease. Not to mention the animal cruelty that goes happens with the food. A vegan diet will promote weight loss, open up the arteries, and improve your mental state. Plus it's not cruel to animals. Please do the right thing and go vegan.

Oh, Kristie, I can hardly type through the tears I cried along with you! Your story is my story, down to the weighing sixish pounds at birth. My toddler pictures look just like yours. School pictures, ditto. Mom an excellent seamstress making my clothes for as long as I can remember - using the "chubbies" patterns. Shopping for men's work/carpenter jeans in junior high because they were the only 'store bought' ones I could fit into. Lane Bryant catalog at 16 - my first pair of not home made girl jeans. The thoughts - the wasted years, losing precious time and memories with my daughter, fitting into or not breaking chairs...and on and on. Our few differences? - I'm 5'9" and 54. I have just started in a local Medical Weight Management Program. I had been to this same doctor back in 2009, but I know at that time his advice was more in line with the USDA guidelines. So when my primary doctor suggested seeing him again, my first thought was "If he's going to tell me the same old 'eat less, move more', I'm out of there. It just doesn't work for me." I had researched low carb diets way back in the 90's with Protein Power and Carbohydrate Addicts - it just made sense to me. But 'everyone' - family, friends, dieticians and doctors - thought it was a crazy dangerous fad, so I never followed through. So imagine my shock when the weight management doctor recommended a lower carb all the way down to ketogenic diet!! He believes in metabolic syndrome and insulin resistance! I cried in his office, thanking him for being the Only doctor I have ever seen to think these things are real and that it is not some behavioral, psychological or moral failing on my part. I felt so validated! So I am two months in, have only lost about 8 pounds, but over 30" overall. I have had some stumbling blocks during this time - cortisone shots for arthritis are not kind to ketosis! But I am committed to keep going back to this lifestyle because it works for me, not just for weight loss, but for overall wellbeing. I want to be able to bike ride with my twin 10 year old grandsons and play on the floor with my new 13 day old granddaughter! That is what life is about! I am also part of a support group, and was just tasked last week (at my first meeting!) of creating an internet resource guide for the groups - because I kept opening my mouth and saying things like "have you tried Nom Nom Paleo's Cracklin' Chicken recipe? Check out Butter Bob Briggs on You tube. The videos on dietdoctor.com are fantastic". So now dear Kristie, I will be adding yours to my 'highly recommended' sites! I swear it was Divine intervention that your Fat Head Pizza recipe video came up on my Facebook page as an 'other videos you may like', just as I was mentally committing to starting today LCHF compliant after last night's "I'm too hungry and tired so I'll just eat this leftover pizza" fall from grace. So today you are my Inspiration Angel! Thank You, most sincere, heartfelt, sisters on the same journey, THANK YOU for what you are doing! You are making a difference! Lori

Oh My Gosh! You are talking about me! I feel the way you did before you lost the weight! I have tears running down my cheeks because finally, someone knows how I feel. (I know there are so many more people who are thinking this too) I am 5' 2" and weight 260. 48-years-old with a gastric bypass 8 years ago. Fat all my life except a few times when I starved myself when young. Broke my knee, had no insurance, and now I am again a stay at home mom/grandma. I want to tell you THANK YOU for sharing your story and creating your book! I bought the Kindle book but when I save up enough money I am getting the real book because it is always better to use a book in the kitchen! I just found you today and I have been cutting out sugar and starches, going low-carb and working towards Keto. Since I no longer can work with my knee problems I am figuring things out on what to eat inexpensively and my daughter and sons help me out a lot (I live with them and one 3-year-old grandson). Now here is my hope and goals. I want to be able to go on walks and be a great grandma, since my grandson is living with us and not his mom. So, I am a mom substitute? Instead of my kids no leaving home it is reversed in this house. Yes, I am divorced many years ago. I want to cook meals for the family and not be so tired that I just let them eat microwave meals. I want to be able to play and run with my two granddaughters! That is my journey and goals. It has been almost three weeks of low carb and no weight loss. Yes, I know I can do better. I have only had one bad sugar time and I was gassy, bloated and sick after I had some pie! Other than that, I feel great and I can go up stairs and cook more easily! I am craving things less and learning at this time. Again THANK YOU!

Kristie, Thank you for being so very open and honest. I remember being in third grade and I became overweight. My parents had to try to find me 'husky" clothes. I was never athletic, but I excelled in music. I was given a cookbook in 4th grade, because my parents said that no matter how old I became, there would be a time when I would have to know how to cook. So I began cooking, getting up early Sunday mornings to make rolls and sugary sweet treats for the family (7 kids) for breakfast before we went to church. I eventually went into the baking industry. That just caused me to gain more weight. Then I left baking and went into ministry. The weight continued to be added. Three years ago, my doctor told me I had a fatty liver. I ignored it for two years. But 16 months ago, I began the same eating plan you are following. I have lost 4 inches in my waist and lost 40 lbs. I am feeling better, my skin is improving, my chiropractor says my body is responding to his treatments, I'm sleeping better and not feeling as tired. I stopped taking cholesterol medicine and my doctor said that my liver enzymes are down 30%. I know more about my body know than I have ever. I started back in the bakery part time, but I don't have to eat it. I get two breaks of 15 minutes each at work. I take two salads that I finish and I am satisfied and not hungry. I started skipping breakfast to do intermittent fasting. I've done well and I'm not hungry. Nobody knows unless they have experienced the pain of being overweight themselves. Bravo for you! Thank you for sharing.

How exciting to see someone else succeed in their journey to health. I do agree with the Keto diet. As a nurse, I've been taught the "wrong" way of nutrition my whole life. In March I almost died. I spent 5 days in ICU for a blood sugar of 741! I didn't know I was diabetic. I'm now on insulin (the hormone that actually stores fat!) and changing my diet to reverse it. Thank you for your brave reveal and motivational words. I appreciate you and your journey. God Bless!

I've been on a very low carb diet for about 3 months now and for the first time in my life I am not turning to food as a crutch. I am slowly and safely losing weight and my mood is much more stable and I am happy. People like you, who spread the word, who have been through all the things that being fat entails, are so inspiring, please keep on doing what you're doing and know that you're motivating and helping people from all over the world. Thank you!

Kristie, I have been on the Facebook page and watching videos since September 2017. I hadn't gone back to your story. It's like my story! I started at a 24, lost a little being gluten free. Went Keto in September and put on my first pair of size 16 pants this month. I can't wait until I can walk into one of those stores and shop for myself! For now, I am still a Lane Bryant, Torrid & Maurices girl, but I know I will ugly cry the day I can no longer shop there. I totally understand the emotion!!

I loved this video even though I am watching this in 2019. I had gastric bypass too and I wish I knew about keto before I had the surgery. Keto has kept my weight under control unlike the old school high carb diet we were told to follow as weightloss patients. Your video confirms that getting weightloss surgery doesn't always promise you'll be skinny forever which is why its so important that we learn how to eat and keto has been a really eye opening experience.

Such a great video. I cried right along with you. I have struggled with weight my whole adult life also. I've done WW, low fat, protein shakes. You name it. But I'm 59 now. My father ended up with diabetes and died from the drug they put him on to control it (it was pulled off the market the following year). My mother died of ovarian cancer in her 50s. High blood pressure is through my whole family including myself. All of a sudden I realized that it's time to do this. If I don't get control over my weight soon I know it will never happen and the risks associated with the extra 40-50 pounds will only increase. So I started eating LCHF 2 weeks ago and it's great. I'm not hungry and when meal times come around (especially lunch) I have to really ask myself if I'm hungry as a lot of time I truly am not. Today I had coffee with cream, bacon, creamcheese/egg pancakes for breakfast, a snack of broiled salami and parmesan cheese and dinner was a small steak with in a mushroom spinach sauce. That doesn't sound deprived to me! Thanks for sharing, it makes me feel not so alone in this journey.

I wanted to give you a hug through the screen and I can empathize with your struggle even though I have not experienced it myself. Though at one time my weight did creep up to 165 lbs and I'm 5'5 and I was wearing a size 12 and hated the way that I looked, because most of my life I had been thin. But in my early 20's I wanted to lose about 5 lbs and tried the high carb low fat diet low calorie diet that all the doctors claimed worked. And like you, I found myself starving all the time and gradually my weight creeped up instead of going down. I only controlled it by running a lot, because I enjoy running. Then when I was 27 yrs. old, I was at a size 12/14 and needed to lose weight for my wedding.. I was working as a manager of an August Max/ Casual Corner triplex store, so I related to that part of your story. I special ordered my dress, 3 months out, from a wedding shop. . They measured me and told me I needed to order larger and get a size 16. I refused and told them to order me a size 6 because I was planning on losing weight. They were horrified that I ordered a size 6 instead of a 16. But I began a low carb/ketogenic diet called Power Protein. I ate a lot of caesar salads and whole rotissere chickens for lunch and steaks with creamed spinach for dinner. I also forgot to eat. I didn't see much weight coming off the scale initially but was told it's because fat does not weigh much but takes up huge volumes on the body and so it's best to use a tight article of clothing and keep trying it on. I was not seeing much weight loss on the scale but my clothing was getting looser and looser as I was only loosing body fat. I was also running. By the end of the three months my size 6 wedding dress arrived and they called me to come in and try it on. I think they were secretly cringing. When I arrived and they looked at me they could not believe the difference. When I tried on the dress it was hanging on me. It was too big. I was wearing size 2/4's I felt victorious. I had to have my aunt do alterations on the dress to take it in so that it would fit. I kept the weight off for a few years but when I returned to eating carbs it came back and I gained it all back. They I discovered that my issue is that I am insulin resistant. Both of my paternal grandparents were type 2 diabetics as well as my dad's sister. The problem was that I was eating a vegetarian diet for 7 years and it was very hard to do that while low carb. I tried a diet called insulin resistant diet in which you can eat up to 30 net carbs every two hours and balance with half as much protein to stop an insulin spike. It worked and I lost weight. I lost much slower than on a ketogenic diet but it gave me more options when eating. There was nothing that I could not eat as long as I controlled the portion size. Eventually I went back to eating meat and fish, because my body was struggling with inflammation from soy and processed foods. I went to low carb cave man diet and dropped down size 4 again. I recently was eating carby foods again and gained. One of my scales says 130lbs and the other says 139 but I have a high percentage of body fat so I feel skinny fat. I ordered resistance bands for toning legs and arms so I can get firmer skin and I'm lifting some weights. I learned that this is more benefical for looking lean than doing cardio. That way we retain our muscle mass while our body just burns off fat. Rhodiolia and Forskolin can also help this process and also taking Yohimbe will help because it blocks alpha 2 fat receptors and will help you lose the fat off of those stubborn estrogen dominated fat cells, so off of your trouble spots. I'm glad that you are educating people because the standard food pyramid needs to be turned upside down to work for people like us who have an insulin resistant metabolism. (Hug)

Brenda Dickens Girl, I just started keto about 3 weeks ago. I have been overweight since birth. I studied nutrition, tried every diet, and knew that something was missing. I knew I had something like unbalanced hormones or something else physiologically that was keeping me from losing. And omgoodness, I hated fat on my meat and ate the leanest meat possible, etc. I was doing everything wrong! Kristie makes my life so much easier by having recipes to follow instead of just meat and vegetables cooked in a bland way. If you need to talk or want to share feel free!

Hi Kristie! I'm all teary, after watching your video sharing, " your story." I am so inspired, appreciative, and surprised by it. It was generous and brave of you to share so openly. I found you "accidentally," just 10 days ago as, as I am seeking information, on eating a "ketogenic diet. for eating a healthy ketogenic diet. You are so lovely and charming, honest and open. I really like you and feel like I know you! Lol I have watched 8 of your videos and look forward, everyday, to try and squeeze one in. I have lost 11 pounds doing Paleo eating, but I'm always hungry and was only eating about 1,200 calories. I'm committing to eating more healthily, because of you. I have ten more pounds to lose, but I feel confident, that I can do it now! Thank you, thank you, for sharing your life and progress! I'm so proud of your journey! Hugs, Stephanie. 😍

Thank you so much for sharing. I started my own Keto journey 5 weeks a go and I am loving it. I have lost 13 lbs, but more than that, I don't ache from arthritis anymore! I'm sleeping better than ever and have so much energy! I could relate to the Lane Bryant story so much. I became overweight as a teenager and have struggled ever since. I was so envious of my smaller friends and their cute clothes, when I felt like I always dressed like an old lady, because those were the clothes that I could find in my size. I discovered your page through a recipe that someone shared, and I am so glad that I did. I am looking forward to viewing more of your videos and really appreciate the time that you are taking to share and to encourage the rest of us. Thanks again.xx
