9:11 I think that the dev diary is talking about forming a Personal Union, not an alliance. If the King of France and the Queen of, say, Naples got married then they'd form a Personal Union, which would either continue on with their child or break depending on succession laws

I always felt like both EU4 and CK3 were separate games that should have been just one. Hopefully this gets us closer to that, I for one would love it.

Man im worried abt EU5, lets hope it wont be too drastic in mechanics. The map art just reminds me of Age of History

I don't think model is different. I agree that hair and facial hair are generated differently than in CK3. Still, vanilla CK3 has poor palettes, textures, and shaders, there are mods which improve that, e.g., EPE, so character models with EPE look much much better, perhaps even better than this. Another thing is that you can really edit all possible details of DNA of character models in CK3, and additional mods add additional editable features. So, much depends if the character was edited with attention to detail, etc. As for the background, they use the same technique like they showed with Roads to Power graphic: they paint over 3D scene made in Blender. I don't know why they don't just use Blender-rendered scenes, but for some reason they're attached to that painting-like style. Still, the character image has the same presentation as in CK3: a 3D model in front of 2D background. At this point, 4 years after the release of CK3, they should've improved their engine more, since it is obviously way behind anything else in the gaming industry right now. The only thing that is superb is DNA generation and possibility of editing every single gene of your character, so you can customize their look as you want. But by now they should have had 3D backgrounds, so characters should be placed in 3D scenes (and they have that in their engine, since they made it for Royal Court in CK3). Characters and scenes should be photorealistic (and obviously they're not). Just look at Baldur's Gate 3, which is still not the top in their class, but all cinematics and cut scenes are generated in-engine, and look much more realistic than whatever PDX does. PDX is just too conservative, they purposefully design games so they look like they were made several years ago, not in 2024. Most other games moved past skeuomorphic UI, but PDX just cannot help themselves, everything has to look like 2000s again. Additionally, they should add voice acting, so characters in game actually talk, but they'll never do that since it's expensive. Since they were already using AI generated content in Stellaris, I'm sure EU5 will rely on AI generated stuff as well, and the quality of the game will deteriorate.
