I would highly recommend putting a sump guard on, particularly if you're going to track it, these are known to scrape on anything that's higher than normal roads, more so if it's been lowered!

I do worry about that! It’s definitely quite close to the ground.

I had never really looked at the oil pressure when giving my 996 the beans through the twisties (slightly more than 4 corners in 40 miles) so I went out tonight and watched the gauge. It does dip and sometimes significantly. I think I may have to save up for a new sump with the baffle. I don't think I need the extra oil volume since I will not be tracking the car. Good video!

I’d highly recommend the FVD Brombacher one I have. It does an excellent job for just about anything you can throw at it on the street… on legitimately twisty roads… with the exception of being tested on 270deg on ramps haha.

Looking great! I just did the third rad, 996.2 injectors and fan resistors to my 99 this weekend. Did you add a spacer for the oil pick up to account for the thickness of the thin metal you used?
@FunAhead_TV_Official
@FunAhead_TV_Official 24 күн бұрын
Awesome!! Nope, I did not. It’s very thin gauge metal, so it’s not spaced off the bottom by much. If anything, it’ll help give it a little less resistance when drawing in oil, but not high enough off the sump to risk starving it of oil. That was my thinking.

I have been enjoying your videos. One more thing you have to do to bulletproof the engine and that's to improve on the AOS. Get yourself a UAOS with track drain. It has many benefits including the ability to run an extra 1-2 quarts additional oil over what you are running with your FVD/LN deep sump. This extra oil will not only further help with oil pressure, but the UAOS track will help to eliminate intermix issues associated with the AOS failing, not to mention it can better process the oil under high G scenarios which the AOS cannot handle. It's a no brainer. Good luck on your track day.

Thanks for the heads up! I’ve considered it, but have not had any issues on track with the stock AOS. Maybe someday though!

@FunAhead_TV_Official unfortunately, you will. The oem aos is suboptimal which is why we all went to the motorsports aos. But the motorsports aos can't process oil levels above full. The UAOS track can process all of the oil in a deep sump (2 qts) plus an addition 1-2 qts on top of the additional oil in the deep sump. The M96 NEEDs lots of oil to prevent oil starvation and facilitate oil pressure. AOS and MS AOS can't handle the extra oil that the M96 needs. But the UAOS track can. You spend alot of time and money with your rebuild. No reason to put it in a position to fail if you don't have too.

You associated with the company that sells them, by chance?

@FunAhead_TV_Official no, just a guy that has owned my 996.2 for 22 years and has been around the block with it on the street and track. You learn to understand the issues and look for solutions. I am not in the auto industry nor manufacturing. Just trying to help all the new owners that haven't been around the block yet.

In my 3.6, 3 qts. stays in the engine after an oil and filter drain, so I only add 5-6 qts. as it has a 9 qt. capacity. So my question...how are you getting all of the oil out such that you are able to add 11 qts? I wish I could do a complete drain but have never heard how to get all of the oil out.
@FunAhead_TV_Official
@FunAhead_TV_Official 21 күн бұрын
Interesting! I’ve never had that issue. I’ll have maybe 1qt remain. I just go do a drive beforehand to get the oil nice and hot, then that should result in a nice, thorough drain.
@aboyandhisdog
@aboyandhisdog 21 күн бұрын
@@FunAhead_TV_Official Maybe it is different with the 996...you do have a dipstick after all. In the 997, 3 qts will not drain in the M96 engines. I'm not sure about the turbo and GT cars.
@FunAhead_TV_Official
@FunAhead_TV_Official 21 күн бұрын
Maybe so. I never had that issue with either of the two 987 cars I had in the past. That many qts remaining sure seems like a lot! But the heads do hold a lot of oil, so it’s possible they’re holding onto a lot.
@aboyandhisdog
@aboyandhisdog 21 күн бұрын
@@FunAhead_TV_Official Yea, that would be about 1.5 qts. / head so I guess it is realistic that 3 qts. stays put. All the more reason to do frequent oil changes I think!
