Cast aluminium is a b*tch, it’s known for it’s superior snapping properties… The welder did a very nice job since welding cast aluminium is far from easy, probably also the reason why most welders rejected to do the repair. Stuff like this happens, could feel your pain but you pushed through! Great first start-up, sounds awesome and no major leaks is a win on it’s own. Enjoy your first drive!

Hahaha “Superior snapping properties.” Well said 😂. He really did do a great job though; this guy is an absolute pro. Everything i saw in his shop was expertly crafted… I somehow lucked into finding the perfect guy for the job.

Torquing and twerking! Put that on a t-shirt with the image of that dancing noodle and you will have made a mech sale my friend. Great video. I felt for you when you broke the housing. I do something like this all the time and immediately I am just looking around for the time machine. I believe you felt exactly what "so pitted" is. Loved the "Determination" poster! Just add a kitten clinging to a branch. Great job on getting the engine in and the car running as well but I feel that was not why I enjoyed this video so much.

Thanks Michael!! Haha a “Torquing and Twerking” shirt would be great. It just might happen haha. Yes, I would have loved a time machine, and exactly what I was thinking. Thank you for watching, as always!!

Lol me watching you talk about how this is gonna be a nice easy reinstall, then noticing it's a 45 minute video, and wondering what sweet horror my man over here is about to encounter. Glad you found the local hook-up to save you the hassle and expense of having to buy a new transmission though.

😂😂 Absolutely. Is he about to give us a nut-and-bolt rundown of this install?? Or is something about to go seriously wrong?? The latter… Dang it :/

I looked up what alloy is used on those transmissions and couldn't find it. I doubt the welder knows either, but he could take a guess. The repair looks great, but that doesn't really matter. The heat affected zone of the weld is now over tempered and soft (weak), but there is probably a good safety factor in the design. Welding of heat treatable aluminum (your casing most likely is made of heat treatable aluminum} is done all the time, but the softening should be taken into account. I'd do the same thing to repair it, but make sure that safety bar underneath is in place, just in case.

You’re exactly right. It’s certainly weakened now, and I had talked to him about that at length. He seemed to think it should be more than sufficient for what that housing needs to do. Additionally, the ID is now just sliiiightly bigger than before, so less stress in the housing from interference. Coming together to hopefully be the most robust possible final result, all things considered.

I'm glad to hear the welder was aware of the effects. I also assumed he wouldn't be able to get it to the exact diameter again.

Dooooood! I just put the insert in my 996.1 tonight! That is CRAZY. I was looking at the differences between the 996.1 and the Turbo, C4S. Sorry man. Rooting for you!

My dude, the exact same thing happened to me on my Tip. Pressed the new bushing in and POW, the casing cracked exactly like yours. I had the exact same look on my face as you...not happy. I just said screw it and broke out my tig welder, even though I knew this was above my skill set, but in the end, it's holding up, though I'm not banging gears, hence the Tiptronic, but it is holding, though it looks like someone sneezed aluminum all on the bottom of the casing LOL!! Your repair is lightyears superior to mine, nice job.

Sorry that this also happened to you, but also weirdly comforting to know I’m not the only one! But also, given how thin the housing is right there, it’s 0% surprising how easily it snaps. Nice work with the DIY weld job though! I would have made an aaaabsolute mess of mine of I had attempted it haha.

I’ve got a feeling Porsche over-did the interference fit on that mount. That said, did you check the aftermarket mount outer diameter was the same as stock before pressing in?😅
@FunAhead_TV_Official
@FunAhead_TV_Official 2 ай бұрын
Haha yes, I did check the aftermarket mount. It was not the interference that broke it; the tool came in contact with the metal of the bushing once the bushing was 99% installed. So I was tightening the tool and the bushing had nowhere to go… Hopefully that makes sense. Admittedly, I didn’t do a great job explaining that in the video.

Trying to figure out how you've got sub 2k subscribers. I know it's tough and can be discouraging to put all that work in for very little return. Stuck with it and you'll be at 100k than 500k then the skyscraper the limit. Content is interesting and you've got the personality. If you've the patience and drive you'll succeed. Could take 6-months or 3 years of grinding but, if your able to stay as energetic and excited as you are now, you'll make it.
