Making Rings from 2 Gold Coins (1/2 oz vs 1 oz)

I prefer the 1/2 ounce ring. I have one made slightly rounder than your version. I also made a one ounce silver maple leaf coin into a ponytail tie when I had long hair. 😁

I've made a ¼ oz ring and a 1 oz wrist torc, but they're pure gold. I found that if I stop annealing about halfway through the process of making them, I wind up with a marginally tougher final product. So even 24k gold can work harden.

I do only silver and 22k gold. Pure gold doesn’t work well and coins that are copper tend to turn your finger green

Great video! Why did you heat it though? Wasn't the original shine and color better?

You need to heat it to avoid cracking it. You can polish it back but it doesn’t looks as good in my opinion. But I definitely could.

Long time viewer, but just now commenting. I love your work and, in fact, your videos have helped me get started making coin rings. I do have a question. Do you use any kind of UV resin or powder coating to protect your coin rings? I recently came across this online and now I’m wondering if i should be doing that as well.

Thanks for sticking with me! I don’t add anything like that. I tried things early on and then really thought about clear powder coating. But no matter what you cost it with, the coating will eventually (and usually really quickly) start to look like crap. So I think it’s best to avoid any and all coatings.

The 1/2 oz coins can be made that large but I don’t like stretching them that far normally.
