I finally have admitted the 2024 season is over! Put together a look back at the last few months of maple tapping, harvesting, sugaring, boiling and finishing! It's been a weird trip, but damn I love the entire mapley process nevertheless.

🙌Thank you so much for the kind words! This year more than ever, it truly was a labour of love, but that's fine with me because I love the whole process. Going to head out to the sugarbush and take the taps out this weekend (still hoping something's dripping but it won't be lol), and then see about planting our veggie seeds, which I fear I'm already behind on. Have a great weekend!🍁😁

🙌 Thank you very much! It's a very tasty batch this year, and hardly a hint of smoke... but there's enough there for that homemade flavour 🍁

Thank you Chris! Yeah the weather has gone even more bonkers... snowed in and without hydro this week, but now we're at late spring/early summer temps and everything is getting so green. Chicken tractor is a great idea, lovely Amish farmers down the way have one and I've been intrigued with it. Good way to mow the lawn if nothing else 🐔😂😂 Look forward to seeing that video!

Great video... Looks like everyone had a good time even if it was a short season. At least pancake season should go well.

During the final boil stage (in the pot on the stove), what would happen if instead of going all out on a full boil you just let it simmer for awhile, maybe even letting it simmer till it reaches the temp for it to be maple syrup? I mean what would happen besides it just taking longer to make.

I've heard of a few people who do that, and unsure the benefits or lack thereof... Just personal preference I suppose (we're usually so tired at this stage, we kind of want to get it done so a slow simmer vs. boil would be a convo to have😜). I'd worry the sap/syrup could get too thick if you were to filter again, but we don't so that wouldn't be a concern. Our stove runs on propane, so I suppose the only downside of it would be fuel usage... mind you that would be negligible. If you were moving a little slow or had all the time in the world, it could be a nice way to go about it. Simmery slow or ripping boil; as long as the Brix runs between 66° and 68°, it'd be fine and dandy to do. 🍁

@@simplewoodslife Thicker syrup was what I was thinking might happen as well, just wasn't sure. Wish I had maple trees around me to give it a try at making my own syrup.
