Simple woods life = get outside, don’t overthink anything, laugh at the wandering of the mind. Thanks for the content.

🤣You're very welcome and thank YOU for watching it!!! I've honestly found the overthinking part to be the most true in the simple side of things. It's a constant case of not even looking for the finish line when you start something for fear I'll find someway to logically talk myself out of it. So you're one hundred percent right; know where you want to go, start and keep the head down. A thousand mistakes and a hand-full of victories later, maybe get somewhere close to where you were going. If nothing else, you were outside and had some laughs! 🙃

🙌 Thank you so much for those kind words! I'm glad you liked the video. There's lots of one side convos around here, as Ms. Lady prefers the less "smelly, cold, dirty, wet and potential for harm" kind of adventures so I tend to be in the woods solo 🤪. Mind you, with gardening season on the way, I get to have more human contact 🤣 Jokes; she'll be around as we continue boiling and finish up this years syrup... no worries on the stories & one-sidedness, they'll keep coming 🙃

🙌Thank you! It's pretty interesting for sure, and neat how it can be done with a handful of trees and a pot over the fire really, or with forests of maples and massive stainless steal monsters and RO systems.. But even with the state-of-the-art machinery, it's a simple and honest way to spend time outside when the weather is just beginning to warm up. Hoping for another semi-decent day today in the pursuit of sap running, fingers crossed. Thanks for hanging out with me!

Thanks so much, glad you liked the nonsense! 🤣 How's the weather where you are? We had a great day yesterday and I was so excited about grabbing our sap this morning - accidentally listened to the weather network telling me today was going to be just as perfect temps, but then we didn't get the cold last night.. stayed a late May kind of vibe all evening... just not idea where this season is going. Good luck grabbing gallons upon gallons on your side, and happy sugaring! 🍁

Thank you! And AWESOME that you're rocking out the sugaring! I'm no expert, and there's loads of folks with more knowledge than me but if you ever have a question that seems "too dumb to ask", be sure I was there in the last three years and don't be afraid to shoot me a note on Instagram or through email. Happy to help, and if I can't more than pleased to point you in the direction of folks who possibly could!

I've always thought 'under your belt' meant you'd secured something. So if I learned how to do something then I'd secured a skill so I had it 'under my belt'. But somedays achieving 'pants' is an accomplishment so maybe it's both. I'm going to start using kerfuffle in my day to day. Thanks for the language lesson!
@simplewoodslife
@simplewoodslife 5 ай бұрын
Oh secured something.. like Batman's utility belt maybe? But his was comprised of (and still is I believe) compartments on the outerside of the belt. I'd imagine trying to get under the belt for shark repellent or scuba gear (mainly drawing my comparison from the 60's movie here) would be less than a movement of ease. Nevertheless, I like the idea of skillsets being secured. Quite right too, about pants being an accomplishment. I swear I'm going to go to the doctors one day and they'll be in their pyjama bottoms along with the rest of the world. Kerfuffle!

I was thinking more like sliding a handle of a hatchet between the belt and pants or maybe the old timey woodsman belt that went over the outer coat.. I read the comments below about it actually being related to digestion though.. makes sense. I did look up the old Gong Show tv show and on wikipedia it has this description 'Each show presented a competition of amateur performers of often dubious talent'. Turns out I've actually worked at several Gong Shows.. Who knew?@@simplewoodslife

🤣😆😅QUAGMIRE, of course!!! Lol, too funny. Though I could still hear us up here melding them together "This quagmire's turning out to be a frickin gong show" 🤣. How's the sap running your way? We had a PERFECT day yesterday for temps (and they "say" it's going to be the same today), unfortunately we didn't get anywhere near cold enough last night so unsure what's going to be what when I check the buckets. No permanent damage to your roof with that firewood falling?

I live in Michigan North of Detroit about 30 miles. I just started watching your videos as I also am a small back yard syrup maker. Did 2 boils and have almost 2 gallons of syrup. The weather is getting way too warm and plan on doing 1 more boil this Monday.
@simplewoodslife

Welcome along for the ride, so happy you found the channel and dig the videos! 2 gallons of syrup is amazing, how many trees are you running with? Either way; Small batch sugarers for the win!!! 🍁🍁🍁 We drove down to Detroit a few years back for a childhood rock-and-roll dream come true for me, and noticed the exact same weather as we have up here. I realize that's not that flooring of a concept, but honestly a few hours in any direction of our place could be like driving into the Arctic or the Caribbean... Heck, as I'm struggling with our small operation, two hours down the road I know of folks having a bumper crop this year; literally pulling thousands of litres out in a weekend! Anyway, I say that all to get to the point of how's your season there? Are you experiencing the same odd weather patterns as we are up here? Another friend of the channel who's also in Michigan was saying he's had 5 seasons in a week where he is.

@YoungbloodFamilyFarm Thank you! 😂😂 We were still talking about it at lunch yesterday, and are beginning to gather quite the list of common words or phrases that seem so foreign to other folks and can de-rail a conversation quickly. My cousin from Ireland chimed in with "cooker", which of course we boringly call a stove... But perhaps words from across the pond isn't as fair as Canada/US. Think I'll get off the chesterfield and put my toque and runners on now, go out for a rip and grab some ketchup chips and a pop (more than a Loonie now too, eh?), and give this a real noodle.

Nice video Jay, I'm considering building a sugar shack myself for next year but I'm undecided on how big to make it because I've been in some smaller ones and the steam is so bad you can't breathe or see 6 ft in front of you . I think I'm leaning towards a 10×20. I never heard of school buses being stopped due to high winds 😂where have we gone wrong😅
@simplewoodslife
@simplewoodslife 5 ай бұрын
Thanks Joe! I'm with you on the size of the sugar shack lol. Hey, if I had no barriers (ie: my wife reminding me we only have 18 trees) I'd be building a 30x30 on a heated slab with at least one pinball machine in it, plus a flatscreen TV. A 10x20 is definitely a great size though considering you're likely boiling up way more than I ever will. A good cupola and vents I hope saves us though! Winds, I know. What the heck? I've shook my head at "snow days" with less than 1/2 a foot falling... Now wind. When I was a boy, the only time we'd get a school closure was if the weather went below -25°C. But snow, rain, wind... didn't mean a thing. Sigh. 🙃🙄🥺

My understanding for the whole Under your belt saying means.... You have finally digested what ever it is you have done.... So it's now below your belt 😂🤷‍♂️ Awesome videos by the way.... From a newfie guy
@simplewoodslife
@simplewoodslife 5 ай бұрын
😂😂😂 that makes sense I suppose. So technically then it's also inside you, which then brings new pondering to Sinatra's "I've got you under my skin". I did look it up and Grammarist (grammarist.com/idiom/under-ones-belt/) said it originated with consumption of alcohol, then food (as you mentioned), then over time eased into meaning of knowledge. I still think pants is the best rationale. 😂 Weather treating you ok out East there? We're 16° and I'm less than a week from shovelling the driveway.
