Brilliant pair of Spinning Tops & what a clever use of the brass nail. Your work on the lathe amazes me & with the banter with your video lady is SO good & helps the general tone & presentation of your videos. You should perhaps feature her a bit more from time to time. Excellent video, cheers, Don from South Australia.

It is always a pleasure to see you working on the lathe. Thanks to Lies as well for the camerawork. I am still smiling and my grandchildren will have fun too in the next weeks. Great ideas for nice gifts. Egbert from Germany

Me at 22 making wooden tops for my grandchildren 😮 I am making these on my Jet lathe but it might be a few decades before my grandkids are born and the tops come off the shelf.

New sub. All woodturners are old? Well true, but no grand children yet. I do love making tops! Very cool ideas for more types of tops. I have never seen the egg launcher!

My grandchildren are too old for these toys and I may not live long enough to see my great-grandchildren but I love your presentations. I had a fantastic holiday in Holland many years ago and fell in love with the country, the language and the culture. Keep producing these videos.

How have I just now stumbled upon your channel? Years of turning and more of studying turning on KZfaq and I finally discover your work. Ronald, your video production quality is outstanding (be certain to credit your videographer) and your turning skill is top. Then you put your comfortable nature in front of the camera. I look forward to learning from your existing and future videos. And I think that top for my nine year old daughter is next on the lathe.

I have made hundreds of spinning tops, but have never seen the ones that you have made. Very nice work. I will have to watch the video a few times to get it right. My children use markers to colour their tops. Take care and stay safe: from Petawawa, Ontario, Canada.

I see you are using the Eastern European style skew... With the tapered tool. I have two that Crown released a few years ago but would LOVE see more on its use... Especially from someone like yourself. Is that possible?? Also.... Reifendrehen?? Ever done much? Thanks again.

I don't have any grandchildren yet, my only (child) daughter is getting married in November (2023) so I think I'll make a couple of tops for the future (just in case). But first I've got to make a ring box for the wedding, as I'm only a beginner at the lathe a good suction fit will have to do. Love watching you turn, I am learning so much. Thank you.

Great video. My grandchildren are definitely getting spin tops for Christmas. I just had my oak tree cut down so that should work well for boxes and spin tops. I am from Saskatchewan but was born in Schiedam

Excellent, these are seemingly simple projects that you make so easily and you are showing us how to use various tools. Perfect teaching. Kudos also for the excellent videography, an art also. I like that she captures your technique and often your concentration and focus. Some time we should get a glimpse of the videographer too. Thanks again from a novice turner in Deleware, USA

Thanks form the reply Ronald. I also have a Camvac with a 4inch hose inlet, I was concerned that the Loc Line, that I believe is 2.5 inches inlet, would restrict the airflow and reduce the efficiency.

My granddaughter is too young to play with a top but I will make some to keep in stock. I noticed you have the poseable dust collector, is it effective and which dust extractor do you have?
@ronaldkanne
@ronaldkanne 10 ай бұрын
Hi edward, yes works very well. The hose is from loc line, american i think. The dust collector is from Camvac. (Nowadays Record Power) and in between i use a cyclon. Works very well.

Do you prefer your American Beauty over your Oneway? I am trying to decide which one to buy.
@ronaldkanne
@ronaldkanne 10 ай бұрын
Ow, that's a difficult question... i mostly work behind the Robust now, but some things i prefer to do on the Oneway... i like the sliding headstock from the AB. I like the 'noplay' tailstock from the Oneway... because i do a lot of funeral urns i very much like the tilt away from Robust...
@akdave1947
@akdave1947 10 ай бұрын
Thanks so much for your reply. I gravitate toward the AB, but still can't quite afford it, let alone justify it. I am 76, and not a full time turner, and it's my hobby, not my living.@@ronaldkanne
