Sorry that my audio is genuinely terrible this video, I promise I'm trying to fix it. Also I don't know how to pronounce Bereziartu but I did my best.
Josune Bereziartu is pretty amazing. You could potentially argue she's the best climber of all time. I do just that.

Thanks for this. I never heard of her and I find that to be crazy. She’s a crusher.

OH ! That is a clear indication that we are getting old. She was the best.

She was an incredible climber. I had finished after a dozen attempts "accelera virtuoso" 8a+ in Siurana 2003. And there were Yushi, Josune, Brenna and some other big names asking if they can use my clips for an insight attempt. Josune was the only one who just crushed the route on sight. That was my lesson about the strong gender ;)

I'm generally unsupportive of KZfaqrs who keep to a regular weekly schedule because of how easily it can produce burnout...but your research and editing has been on fire the last few weeks.

It makes me so happy to see a video on her! She is truly one of the great climbers and in my opinion really doesn’t get the credit she should for what she’s done

I remember reading about her in the magazines at the time, and being blown away with how accomplished she was. Glad she's getting some spotlight.

I think it's accepted now that Ben moon set the 9a grade first with hubble, even though he only rated it as 8c+.sandbag.

Definition CRUSHER. I've only followed climbing for the better part of two years and have never heard of Josune. These videos are super informative and almost feel like I'm in "climbing class"!😂 + some great representation for female climbers this Women's History Month. I look forward to your videos every week man, keep em coming! Send it, mate.

These women’s history videos are awesome! Its because of amazing people like Josune that climbing is be such a special sport where the gap between genders can be negligible.

i think the gender gap in climbing is around 1 to 2 letter grades from a biology and probability point of view
@SpartaSpartan117

I seems empirically to be about the same in sport climbing. Adam ondra notwithstanding, the hardest male sport climbers are climbing 9b-9b+ and the hardest female sport climbers are able to do many of the same routes. In bouldering the gap is only 1 grade so far
@La0bouchere
@La0bouchere 2 жыл бұрын
@@SpartaSpartan117 Isn't bouldering a two grade difference? Since you're counting Silence as a 9c without repeats it seems like you should also assume that Burden and Sleepwalker sit are V17. Or is there a v16 female assent?
@SpartaSpartan117
@SpartaSpartan117 2 жыл бұрын
@@La0bouchere I'm kind of tossing silence out since it's been unrepeated and it's the only one of the grade. And actually I just forgot about V17 so 2 grade difference there yeah

She is not mentioned because she came several years later. The groundbreaking was done by Güllich & others which really is a universe apart. She f.e never repeated the 9a standard back then Action Directe. Bimbaluna is considered 9a not 9a+ and still fantastic no question. Its like Messner & Habeler climbing Everest without suplemental oxygen and then doing it 10 years later. I dont really see a case for her no matter how. All her unique claims are only regarding women. Saying "she was on annother level" is just never the case regarding all climbing. There were always men climbing more difficult routes. I guess if you think up a gender gap and put that on top of her achievements ok but still she did not develop any new grade in general. And men & women seem to part one grade at the top. Thats very much shown by her career. If its about that time period Chris Sharma is the logical choice imo. Regarding women I do see HIll as 1 & Catherine Destivelle & Bereziartu at 2.

at 5:14 you list V14 and V15 as boulder grades. Aren't her hardest Boulders V13? First V15 belongs to Ashima Shiraishi i think. Edit: Ah, i switched to her english wiki. Now i see were you got V14 and 15 from. In the german and italian wiki the same Boulder is listed as V13. On 8a.nu E la Nave va is listed as 8b as well. It is worth mentioning that traverses had (or have) different grades than normal boudlers. An 8b boulder is 8b+ FB trav. Source: de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schwierigkeitsskala_(Klettern) So i don't think you put those grades of her in the right context, even though they are incredible. in the source for her 8c trav ascend, the grading difference is mentioned as well: www.planetmountain.com/it/notizie/arrampicata/bereziartu-su-e-la-nave-va-8-c-traverse.html So this "V15" boulder is 30m long and could alternatively be seen as 9a.

Yeah the traverses are graded quite differently but more in line with French grades +1 or 2
