i feel like Automation could work with Ange to make like some sort of actual "anything goes" engine maker instead of like presets that you just put in, so that the less advanced players (like me) could easily make a stupid engine, and convert it to beamng in just 2 clicks

I remember the automation devs saying that the simulation they run in-game is hard to mod. I imagine it WOD take years to redo the whole game (again) especially to make it stable. But it wouldn't be the first time they said no to something and did it anyways. They are working on the engine designer revamp so who knows.
@xenoyparxi
@xenoyparxi Жыл бұрын
@@jwalster9412 in the next engine revamp update they're gonna actually simulate engines (to an extent) at every throttle step, from what I can gather. Dunno if it'll be more flexible for different types of engines, but with that it allowed to have actual Methanol rather than "DevMeth" cheat and same goes for other high octane fuels. And right now it's not so much a simulation, but a very cleverly put together parametrisation lol

I think if beamng implemented their own multiplayer with good netcode, then I'd be super happy! This would also require a check to see if cars are stuck inside something (meaning other cars), and if it is, then allow them to separate :/

Yes! I’ve been waiting for straight 8s in Automation for the longest time (among other quirky layouts). I love straight 8s and flat 8s because they buck the trend of 8 cylinder engines being v’s. Would be interesting to see a flat or straight 8 in a full size truck (maybe a diesel).

@Myles They don't plan to include Flat or Inline 8 engines, Killrob confirmed that they won't went I asked(this was on their official channel). The reasoning being that Flat 8s never saw vehicle production and that they say that boxer engines are superior so they see no reason to implement them. The people at Automation legit have no imagination when it comes to car design, they designed the campaign where sports cars are bad and producing the dirt cheap econoboxes basically are the main way to succeed.
@fillman86
@fillman86 Жыл бұрын
@@mbt808 I too have had discussions with some devs, and they made it clear that first and foremost want to make something they're passionate about, and that's a tycoon game (I don't blame them, it was on the box when we bought it). They have said that new engine stuff will only be considered after they've done fixing a long list of technical debt :) and working with unreal engine, there'd be a lot
@mbt808
@mbt808 Жыл бұрын
@@fillman86 I get that, but when the campaign can be only really played one way successfully, I feel like that takes away the fun aspect of building a car company. If you want to build a sports car centric brand(I tried twice in the last stable build), the game should allow for it with the same possible success as a standard company. You should be able to build your own company to be what you want it to be. I've heard about the technical debt, but that was over a year ago. Although I believe another automation dev basically said it was only part of the issue with their version of Unreal. Spaghetti code issues that required some of the scripting to be rewritten. Automation development has been pretty glacially slow lately, they were moving much faster prior to the engine/turbo rework.

"That's a straight 12." Actually, it isn't, it's a straight six or a straight four. The intake and exhaust ports are on the same side of the head, so it's almost definitely a flathead design. How do I know this? Follow the carbs! What's confusing from that image, however, is whether or not it's a straight 6, in which there are the requisite 2 pipes (one intake, one exhaust) per cylinder, or a mind boggling one intake and TWO?! exhaust pipes per cylinder, because the intakes seem to go straight in. The one "diagonal" exhaust pipe exit obscures this. Weird! Something else that got to me was that "straight 8" yielded no results. Did you try "Straight eight" or "inline 8/eight"?

i like the concept, adding this to beam+automation would be a pretty killer feature. but a what on earth do you mean by saying locked diffs tend to cause understeer, through what mechanism would that occur? i dont think that level of technical accuracy is necessary for your videos, but saying things like that (of which there were a few examples, that just what i paused on) probably makes a certain subset of people (40k views so far) sigh like me.
@fillman86
@fillman86 Жыл бұрын
when turning, wheels rotate at different speeds. Locking those wheels together causes the wheels to keep pushing the vehicle in a straight line. The invention of the open differential was to counteract this issue. However when you have a high powered RWD car like this, it will cause understeer until you try to power oversteer, at which point it will oversteer more, due to the power not only being sent to the unloaded wheel. I know, it seemed weird to me at first but that's physics for you :P
@ooohry
@ooohry Жыл бұрын
@@fillman86 all drift cars have locked diffs. v8 supercars have locked diffs. i personally have driven the exact same car with an open and with a welded diff. causes oversteer near the limit if anything.

I noticed this in a few of your videos. You primarily use Google images to get references. I used Google images for a long time as well, however I promise you, Bing/Yandex hell even duck duck go's search engine for reference images is 1000x better... I don't know what happened to Google/Google images, but after experimenting for a while, I discovered Google is one of the worst search engines now... For example, I just wanted vague measurements of an "average sized" katana. I searched for key terms in Google, ten different ways, and couldn't find anything usable. Every other search engine gave me exactly what I was looking for on the first click... Highly recommend expanding your searches, it absolutely helped me.
