This is a “Fly on the wall” is a video documentary as the Railnuts work on the Blakemere installation.
Warts n’ all, it features the trials and tribulations as volunteers come together to make this happen over the festive period.
“Railnuts” are a group of likeminded individuals who come together to create these fantastic, somewhat portable model railway layouts, often pushing the boundaries of what’s possible and usually in a very short time frame.
The section on display at Blakemere Village is “Making Tracks 3” and features the impressive Milton Keynes station on the West Coast Main Line.
Making Tracks 1, 2 and 3 have previously joined to create one super layout at the Great Electric Train Show in October 2023.
Next year we have plans to extend the layout further for the new Key Model World Live event at the NEC in April 2024 and to push the boundaries of what can be achieved.
Everyone is a volunteer and has a say in what goes on. The group is driven to exceed and build upon previous years efforts.
Young drivers of all ages are encouraged to visit and get hands on driving a train on this magnificent installation over the Christmas period in 2023.

Interesting idea to add additional stations, the debate of not having any to start with and now the change is really interesting in itself! Keep at it guys

Must be a strike day as no passengers are waiting for trains at MK... 🙂 - Love these videos, helps us really appreciate what goes into setting up and exhibiting a large and complex layout

I have a question? Does Pete or the Railnuts want or have space for the 'Mostyn Junction' layout from Wirral Transport Musum? The Wirral Museums have transfered its assets from WTM to Big Heritage and they don't want it! They said it looks scruffy!!!! I am one of about 4 or 5 people who organised for the layout to go to Birkenhead originally, and used to work on it. It was me that built the Tramway on it. It was built by Chester Model Railway Society in the late 70s/early 1980s. It was when first built about 28ft x 16ft. Chester shortened it when they moved club house to 23ft by 11ft. I built a landscape with a village on the front about 12" wide(mainly so little kids couldn't reach the tracks and nick stock!) This made the layout w3ft X 12ft. Earlier this year we were asked by Wirral H&S to, somehow, fit a lifting section. We did this and we're in the middle of relaying the fiddle yard when we were told the museum was closing. The museum has now been closed. We were told we would be let bCk in in September, but now been told we won't be allowed back in. Some of the vehicles have been taken back to their owners/donator, but they want the railway out! I don't know any more at the moment except the Real Tramway is closed and the Vintage trams have also got to be moved out!!! If anybody can help, please ring me: John Harrison 07946 221 912. (I was one of the staff TramDriver/Technicians until 2013 and since a volunteer)

If the copper clad is thinner than the sleepers, I use ,010" (10 thou) plasticard under the copper clad to build it up gradually to the same height. It works on mine?

Based on how it was at Milton Keynes you might want to add a few more boosters as it kept cutting out

I think the person pushing the camera wagon needs a bit more practice buffering up? If it was a passenger train, they'd have about 300 people on yhe floor!!!😂

Good, but sad. Time and age.... Bridge that gap, guys - with a "long length" . "Teaching grannie", but a soldered copper clad joint on the curve/ board interface ? -Keep at it as long as you can. Bless you all.
