Enjoy your reviews. Had this saw for over 3 months now, UK based. Circular saws have come along way in the last 35years. I predominantly cut green Oak and kiln Oak has a timber frame repair specialist on medieval buildings and alike. Stopped using my 4" corded saw. A pleasure to use, bit of a game changer. Thanks

I pre-ordered this saw, had to wait 2 months to get it, now have been using it for the past month, and I love it so much. Also bought the skilsaw 10¼ a month before this one was announced, I returned the skilsaw quickly and pre-ordered this one. Love this makita alot more then the skilsaw.

The blade size does seem more US-centric as our "4x4" posts are 3 1/2 nominal.

Thanks for all your reviews. They are great. I actually just picked up the 270mm corded Makita because they haven't released the rear handled one in Australia yet. I have some 190mm posts to deal with at the moment and couldn't wait and alternatives are slim pickings. I just have the 165mm 18v cordless which is good for cross cuts but rips can be a struggle. Decided I will get the 185mm 40v for the every day circular going forward and just bringing out the beast when needed.

Bought one of those after I saw your 40V saw comparison. So this is my first battery powered saw. I am really looking forward to the 235 mm HS009 coming to local stores as a complement. Fortunately I have a strong wrist from using 60 cc chainsaw one handed to do crosscuts with this beast. It is really not that bad, more like a bit odd at first and when I got used to it being right handed this even has its upsides. I was not sold on the 18V saws I had seen in use. Corded was where power for ripping was found. When anyone is still wondering whether it has the power, I say it cuts 50 mm spruce at least as fast or faster both ripping and crosscutting than Makita 2704 table saw and Makita HS7611 1600 W corded saw, while being butter smoother doing it. Ripping timber feels like it is cardboard instead. The corded saws due to their brushed motors and dumb power management (none at all) won't bog down quite as easily when pushed real hard. While I have good quality blades on my other saws, it appears the Makita Efficut blade might have an edge in cutting speed.

10.25 inch such a strange blade size. The next in line for development is a 12 inch circular saw now. I've got the LXT X2 36V XSH06 paid $91USD for the kit with 2 extra batteries that was a steal of a lifetime and I've had the rear handled one as well,I can't get them to stall for nothing, probably because Diablo thin kerf blades, and because their smaller in size 7.25 inch but I love them, they're the Lamborghini of circular saws fast and smooth

10-1/4” is somewhat of a standard in US framing. Big Foot cemented that blade size when they started modifying the Skillsaw MAG77 and the other manufacturers (including Skilsaw, themselves) didn’t bother re-inventing the wheel when they brought their competing products to the market. Your conventional 10” tablesaw has a max 3.5” cutting depth, but realistically can only do 3” to 3-1/4”. Same applies to a handheld circular saw. 10-1/4” allows you to cut 3.5” or “4x” material in one pass.

What thickness of MDF is equal to a ‘murican 4x4? 😚 Post vid edit: Seems like single battery XGT is pushing it at 10-1/4”? Then again, that’s in line with the history. Big Foot did the first one: a modified Skilsaw MAG 77. A 7-1/4” saw with a 10-1/4” blade on it. I’m not sure how genuine your final question was but the Big Foot was made to cut US 4x material in one pass. 10” just wouldn’t...ahem..cut it. The competition (including Skillsaw, themselves) stuck with the 10-1/4” convention. I don’t know if some muscleman is out there on a ladder, adjusting rafters with a 10-1/4” in one hand, but, basically, it’s used how a 7-1/4” is used on a framing job. Also ran, 10-1/4” to timber-framing is like that 125mm saw to you and me. Makita have a beautiful 10-1/4” sold as “5104” in the USA. One of the distributors I buy from sell it as “lightweight, compact, baby, mini” etc. 😳

That little piece of plastic in-between the trigger protects from holding the side with the grip in the down position. Don't have to worry about slipping toward the trigger. Also since its a rear handle some will try to hang it by the handle rather than the rafter hook. You can see the issue there.
