I work in aviation, and we are required to "shadow" our personal tool boxes. Each and every tool has to be accounted for at a glance, because no one wants to be the one who downs an aircraft because he/she lost a tool and didn't know it was gone. It always surprises me in other industries when someone opens a tool box, and the drawers are packed to the top with loose tools. Shadowing your tool collection not only helps you to keep accountability of possibly missing or misplaced tools, but it looks great too. The main thing is that it sure is nice to know EXACTLY where the tools are that you need, or want to use.

This is an excellent product I only wish I’d heard about it years ago. I bought a new rifle and ordered the foam for my Plano gun case which was ordered and delivered very quickly indeed. And for someone who has trouble with dexterity issues even I managed to do a good job and it’s miles better than plick and pluck that was originally in the case. I can definitely recommend Shadowfoam to anyone! ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ from me.

Makita 6amp batteries pricing is way out of wack in the UK. The 5 amp is consistenly 55/60 whereas the 6 amp is 90. Trouble is the samsung 3000mah batteries (30q) in the 6amp are still priced quite a bit higher than the 2500mah (25r) in the 5amp per 1000 units that Makita are paying. Lovely video and nice to see UK tool content too! Thumbs up.

You might take the cutouts and cut the backs off them so they're about an Inch thich, then you can glue them in the back at what ever thickness you want and have red backing the the recesses.

@unfairleyc 4 жыл бұрын
@@thomasrobinette3227 If when cutting the pieces you save them you could trim off the black foam on the back and retain the red surface. You could also divide up the piece removed into smaller parts and cut each part's back at different heights to get a more custom fit to the tool.

@@unfairleyc dividing each piece at different heights; what do you mean?
@unfairleyc
@unfairleyc 4 жыл бұрын
@@thomasrobinette3227 for example you have a drill and the top is thicker than the handle. You could take the cutout, cut it where the handle meets the top of the drill. Remove more foam on the back of the top part to it sits deeper in the cavity and on the handle remove less. That way the drill sits straight when hung on the wall instead of having to balance it front to back.

Makita's popular here in NZ, I love their tools myself, especially my impact driver and the 36v saw. Other carpenters might use Hitachi/Hikoki, Hilti, Bosch, maybe DeWalt or Milwaukee but the American brands seem to be becoming less popular. Do all Japanese carpenters use domestic brands or would you see DeWalt on a worksite sometimes?

Looks great until you're taking them out and putting them back in, destroying the foam a lot quicker than usual, plus that foam is gonna attract every bit of sawdust, dust, dirt, metal shavings etc.... I would be curious to see how the foam fares over time without babying it.

I'll do this, I need it to free up cupboard space. But I'll do it with a number of removable sections because some tools that I will replace in future will change shape dramatically, I may even make those removable sections fit a standard size travel case. An example is my heavily used Dewalt DCD610 which is about to be superseded by the newly released DCD601 now 4cm shorter and marginally taller. I'll put a shelf on the lower edge with power sockets where I can park my chargers.

Beautiful job but you should have left cut outs for fingers so you can grab stuff more easily. Something like two small half circles from each side where you would typically grab a specific tool. This way it looks more like a sales presentation where you rarely take something out.

What would be really nifty, is if you could combine this with laser cutting as a service. i.e. Choose a pelican case (as an example of an outline), search for your power tools from a library of shapes (or upload your own svg), drag them in and arrange them, then get your foam pre-cut. Your tools change? Log in and see your previous layout, re-arrange and re-order. All the stuff you'd need to do this seems to be available - just not combined.

I think it would look nice, but in a workshop I think it's not practical to open a door for every time you need a tool. I would probably cut out holes for the most used tools including a battery. If you use the drill of impact driver daily, it's nice to always have a battery attached on those.
