This is by FAR the best video I have found about wrist action, thank you! Most KZfaq instructors seem to advise flexing your wrist in the vertical plane rather than the horizontal one and that causes a big twist in the club in the backswing. It has felt more powerful than flexing as you do in this video because it's literally the motion you would use with a whip but that twisted club face means if I don't straighten that wrist out again before impact, I won't only hit it fat but I'll also hit a huge push out to the right. This method you describe seems superior to me.

I wish I knew about Mike 20 years ago. What awesome instruction. I’ve been an athlete most of my life and his golf instruction is so much like the other sports. Golf was never explained to me like other sports, it was always about positions. Mike explains it like it really is...an athletic motion!!

I love this video Mike. The description at the 4:14 mark is an “AHA” moment for me and making sure that might wrists allow that movement and yet keeps the face square has freed me to swing aggressively without fear. This has helped me immensely. Thank you!!!

Changed my swing and grip bc of this video. It’s such an obvious and overlooked action. The wrist needs to throw/flick not twist. The wrist twists on its own but I’ve got such a weak right hand I feel like I have to help the club close. Strengthen the right hand and throw

I think the “early release, flipping the club” is likely from deceleration of the swing if the wrist is not causing the “casting” motion. Swing slower at the early stage of downswing may help in this case.

That's an excellent explanation of the 'cause and effect' of an early release and the loss of power somewhere well behind the point of impact and during the downswing; and a terrific suggestion to help remedy the loss of power by an early release to, 'swing slower at the early stage of the downswing'.

When we throw a ball are bodies clear so much better, when the average golfer swings a club they stall there body and thus flip at the ball, I use the tyre excercise to help me clear my body better and thus keep the club face sq to spine angle and swing arc, most golfers try to add to the swing ( late Ben Doyles advice), As Mike says when we throw we do not try and release we just do it, we dont ADD, great reminder Mike in this video.

Wow... the weight of the club causes the wrist to cast.. mind blown. This is exactly my problem. does this club apply to every club? I notice that I turn more on the take away for driver but less for long irons.. and almost none for wedges or I lose compression..

Most people stop rotating what causes the arms to straighten. They are loosing all the lag or lets say lag tension. The shoulders should not be square at impact. That task should be right shoulder down left up.

Hi, Mike, I like your videos ,so have seen a lot, but am confused here. Could you check your old videos and make a complete video about wrist hinge with your newest discovery. In 2020 and 2021, it seems you're introducing wrist hinge back and forth, and you don't like the face opening up on backswing and closing down on downswing, but I saw a lot videos introducing wrist hinge up and down which causes forearm rotatating a lot in your demo videos before 2017. I'm really confused. Thank you!

Great info. One question, though. Tom Tomasello talks about the right wrist bending back (like you do) and the left wrist rolling to the right (opening the clubface, as you say not to do). And he talks about doing this immediately starting the swing. That seems to open the clubface big time. What are your thoughts on that? Are you both saying the same thing and I'm just misunderstanding?
@77bovi
@77bovi 3 жыл бұрын
somehow I can't match this with the L to L videos. Don't see / feel that angle in the right wrist being that pronounced or being held that long for L to L, doesn't feel like throwing a ball. How we can get L on the follow through (Right arm pronation) if we throw the ball as shown @5:10? Isn't that showing a scoop or flip? The swing that followed was sweet though.
@blue24563
@blue24563 Жыл бұрын
It's the complete opposite of a flip because he is keeping his wrist in extension until after impact. The 'L to L' is a natural cause of the effect of the wrist going into flexion after impact due to the momentum and weight of the club head.
@CaelM8000
@CaelM8000 3 жыл бұрын
As I feel it, is the momentum of the club head accelerating through the point of impact created by the back wrist extension releasing just before or just after the moment of impact?

Mike what's the difference between you and your assistant coach Milo Line's teaching, as he does not advocate losing the angles in the wrists at all, very confusing.
@gtflyer

I would go with what Mike does. I've been using Mike's advice on the wrist angles for about 4 months, when done correctly it can and does make a big difference how you strike the ball. These angles allow me to hit low, mid and high shoots without having to move the ball in my stance.

i literally just wtached a Milo video where he advocated the direct opposite of Mike's "stand the club up" feel. He pulled the handle forward like Mike says not to do. I've been swinging like mike for a few years i kinda of figured it out and it works well.

Itll be thrown off when your club is too twisted on the way down as in closed or open, making you to manipulate thus releasing the wrist hinging angle into the ball.
@ChrisTian-dn4ym

I am facing high lofted / casted shots all my Career and could not really get it lower. When I try to .... I often hit dreadful shanks because the hands are so far forward. When hitting the ball naturaly Its so hard to be passive with the hands or let the unhinging with the wrist happen late to get this low penetrating ball flight. I had hoped you would explane this a bit better how to deal with this and how to train this better.
@surfspear
@surfspear 3 жыл бұрын
Chris you might want to look at what Mike was saying about your hands rotating as opposed to hinging properly. If they rotate open then the heel/hosel is leading into the ball, so you won't be able to hit it low otherwise you'll shank it. Just my two cents)

How can you rotate your arms in the b/s without the clubhead rotating? Mike seems to recommend arm rotation in the L to L videos or am I wrong in this? If so, why? Thanks Ian
@blue24563
@blue24563 Жыл бұрын
You don't consciously rotate your arms. You extend your right wrist on the backswing and the right arm will rotate naturally as a ball and socket joint in reaction to the weight of the club head. The wrist will follow because it has nowhere else to go. The L to L is an effect of this motion, not a conscious effort.
