Mama's Boys were a 1980s hard rock/heavy metal group from County Fermanagh, Northern Ireland featuring the three McManus brothers Pat, a.k.a. 'The Professor", (guitar and occasionally fiddle), John (bass and vocals), Tommy (drums).
The brothers started off their musical career as award winning traditional Irish musicians but were inspired by the legendary Irish celtic rock band, Horslips, as well as younger brother Tommys passion for the drums to form a rock band.
Although the inspiration from Horslips were strong they decided not to follow in those footsteps and instead adopted a more Heavy Metal for the band. Originally called pulse they soon opted to change their name to Mama's Boys.
The band were active from 1978 til 1993 and released 7 albums and 22 singles in their entire career, one of which was a cover of Slade's stomping hit "Mama We're All Crazee Now" in 1984..
The track "If the Kids are United" appeared only on the Arista Label release of the self titled album in 1984 and funnily enough was omitted from every other release of the album..

Blimey!! I was at that video shoot both at the council flats and the venue - can't remember where it was shot though. Takes me back though and we got a beer and a bit of cash for our head banging efforts

Tommy rip. I met him and the rest of the band in 1990 in tower records Piccadilly and we had a detailed chat about the gigs in the SFX Dublin. Really nice humble guys and of course never got the success they deserved. Considering bands like poison and cinderella were huge these were sadly only an underground band who with the proper publicity could have been huge in that era. They were probably not arrogant enough for the big time. Still I'll always play their albums when I'm having a nostalgic drunken night with my sister and friends so they have been in some way immortalised. Thanks for the happy but somewhat blurry memories guys.

Not really - but it could have been the Ocean Estate before they revamped it. Alternatively it could have been around the Bow Flyover as the canal shots seem to be down there - I remember we had to walk ages from the estate to the canal for the bike scene. I also have a vague feeling the gig was shot at Queen Mary's University on Mile End Road - which makes the Ocean seem more likely.

I remember seeing this video on MTV and Night Flight back in the day. I only recently found out it's actually a cover tune. The original is a fairly limp punk song, which Mamas Boys turned into a proper rock n roll anthem.

This song is on the B side of the 1985 12" single of Needle In The Groove. It's not on any UK Mamas Boys album. Also, the list of 22 singles by the band is very misleading, as many of those were never released in the UK. I think its highly likely that the list includes Irish only releases. There are even a couple listed that I've never heard of even as album tracks.

It's sad that Tommy died. What hurts even more is the only place to find their music is KZfaq, and because of small minds, even the band's name brings weird stigmatism and nonsense even on Spotify. They Totally Rocked. Wish they were still making metal...UwU

OH NO, it's terrible. The band should apologize Jimmy Pursey for messing up this song immediately. As the below argument, i don't think the band love the punk movement, cause i don't feel any kind of respect for Sham69 from this cover. In addition, the band don't understand the background of this song (punks vs skinheads, etc.) at all. This song is NEVER for the arena show!

Messing up? Sorry, Mama's Boys IMPROVED this song! They took serviceable punk rock and turned into a bona fide anthem! So why don't explain what's the background of the song?
