+Edward Haung How can you stereotype somewhere so easily that you haven't been around for enough time to really know? Culturally divorces are looked at more negatively in Eastern cultures, women in Korea sometimes even hide that they are divorced just to keep a good social appearance and even a job. Bad relationships happen in every culture whether its more in the western world or eastern. They should have chose a regular relationship, because the level that they put the western relationship on is less than normal.

+luvlycrazycooki3 The Chinese couple aren't perfect and the American one isn't always bad. The fight section I would say the American couple was shown as more healthy since they discussed things instead of just giving them a gift. The American couple also discussed the idea of having a child, while the Chinese couple did it to get their parents off their back. And then just left the baby with the grandparents, while the American couple are having difficulties but doing it together. Also meeting the parents, I would say most men would pick the American thing.

+Edward Haung Okay but just because they can't divorce and Western cuoture can doesn't mean that majority of the population doesn't take marriage seriously because the last time I checked marriage is still a big deal and so is getting a divorce which is most credited to lack of financial support, cheating, and domestic violence which exists in western and eastern cultures. The difference is westerners can more easily escape those problems altogether rather than working towards reconciliation or just putting up with it.

+Edward Haung I honestly do believe that easternn cultures are more serious than western especially the younger generation, but I just dont think that majority old and young are like what's portrayed in the video and are bad to this extent.

@user-uu5jf3jo3o
@user-uu5jf3jo3o 3 жыл бұрын
That’s the pressure of Chinese culture. Having a kid is like checking another box, that makes you successful. Others are: marry before 30, man must have bought a flat or house, be graduated from uni, have a high salary, be 2 years older than his wife, never younger than her, he can have a dark skin. His wife must have a good job too, be graduated, have a white or almost white skin, be shorter than her husband, no need to have a flat. Parents must buy a flat for their sons, if they want them to make a good marriage, one day. All that to divorce a few years later, or cheat on their partner (第三者)。In 2009, in 20% of married couples in China one of the partner was gay or lesbian.

Clubbing: Chinese wins Eating: Neither win. The Chinese had no conversation and Westerners don't know how to share. Saying I love you: Chinese wins Shopping: Chinese wins Enjoying music: Chinese wins Fighting: Westerners win Making up: I kinda think Westerners win here. You can't just always buy forgiveness. If you did something wrong you need to apologize and never do it again, not just buy them a new back and probably do it again knowing you can just buy them something and they will forget about it. Marriage proposal: This opinion might be biased because I'm American but I think Westerners win here. 6 months is way too soon to decide you want to spend the rest of your life with someone. Meeting the parents: Tie. I think it's good for parents to be a little concerned with who their kids marry, but in the end it's not their choice, it's all about who their child loves, so it's best to just find some common ground and go from there. Handling money: Neither win Pregnancy: Chinese win Raising kids: Chinese wins xD

+sephez My husband and I were only together for three months before he proposed, and before then I definitely thought getting engaged that soon was ridiculous and an all-around terrible idea...four years later, I'm so glad I went with my gut and said yes! However, I would've been hard pressed to jump into things so quickly had he not immediately said we would have a long engagement, because despite marriage being such a huge commitment, but let's be honest, engagement is a really nice stepping stone! If you really love each other, rushing into an engagement wouldn't be the worst thing, but rushing into marriage right after that makes things a lot riskier. Just follow your heart, and I wish you luck and happiness with no matter what you do ❤️

I am deffinetely the first one to say that we have a long way to go and that we can learn a lot from other people in how to treat Each other better. We get angrier faster and we are always thinking that we are always right. In stead of staying calm and trying to be more understanding.

I think its also important to say that western people generally marry way later in life than in any other culture. Many date also rather carefree like the chinese couple in their 20’s but eventually end up in a marriage like in the video in their early 30’s. And the video doesn’t really show how marrying without much thought can also go downhill.

+Kitty LissieGirl Maybe saying it the first time is a bit nerve-racking but I agree with Liddyart, "I love you" can be casually stated many times in a relationship. I was actually expected to see the "casually stated" version here rather than the typical one we saw in the video. America is large though so of course there are likely different areas that do things differently.

I'm a Chinese but I have lived in canada for years, I watched the video twice and I think generally it is pretty accurate in terms of the relationship and parenting stereotypes. But like even tho I do know lots of friend who buy expensive stuff for their gf as an apology, but I never think it's good, I think it's shallow and not genuine at all, I'd rather my bf talk to me genuinely and saying sorry from his heart. I think some of the western scenes r a lil exaggerated too like the Chinese ones but it's just a video and it can't cover it all. I just don't see why ppl now r all so angry about it like, you have plenty of stereotypes for other ppl and I don't see they get mad every time they hear it, so why u couldn't do the same. everybody knows stereotypes are not all true but at least have a open mind about it. :)

Over here in America, it's socially acceptable to live with your partner in college, but highly highly unacceptable to get married in college. It's weird right? I think it's better to get married faster, I think Americans wait way too long. They wait so long they're out of the honeymoon phase and then instead of having that commitment to fall back on, they break up after 10 years! It's ridiculous. Not that they have much problem getting divorced anyway.

Asian mom's typically will move in with you for the first few weeks after childbirth to assist the new mothers. In Chinese culture the newborn baby and mother are pampered and not allowed to go outside for one month. This probably dates back to pre-medicinal times when infection and birthing death rates were crazy high, so families did everything in their power to ensure the birthing goes as smoothly and healthy as possible, giving Mom and baby the best chances for recovery.

I had a Chinese girlfriend for 4 years. The video stereotype is very similar to real life. Especially when eating , Chinese girl will use her phone to check WECHAT, she will manage your money too , want it or not . Especially parent introduction, they asked me if I had my own house , my own car , LOL Wtf how a student can have his own house😂😂 😂 the thing in China , parents will offer a house for their son so he can marry a woman. In western , bf and gf will both rent a house then later buy together.

What? People are getting so annoyed. This is based off of stereotypes. Almost every single damn movie or show in American media shows this about western couples. And a bunch of Chinese dramas show the other about Chinese couples. We know they aren't all true. Of course there is some truth, the idea of living together for years without marriage happens a lot in western as opposed to eastern. The idea of open communication when you fight is considered important in western. Who you marry job wise and money wise is important in eastern cultures. Of course, not everything is completely 100% true but there are some who are these stereotypes. I honestly laughed.

@mellory2337
@mellory2337 8 жыл бұрын
Yes the Americans find this offensive because of the western couple part but it looks like that they are not aware that they are stereotyping the Chinese couple because not all Chinese couples are like that. So that actually makes those whining americans racist doesn't it.
@mauia88
@mauia88 8 жыл бұрын
+Mellory Lopes No it doesn't. I don't know what comments you are reading but Americans are not offended by this video just because there is a western couple in it. In fact, I've read a few comments and what I'm seeing is that most commenters are "offended" by the video because it's a stereotype and not entirely true. Of course Americans wouldn't know the customs and cultures of other countries and vice versa other than the stereotypes we see in media. Why would American's complain about something they don't know? Generally people complain about things they do know. Just because Americans aren't getting upset over the representation of the Chinese couple doesn't mean they are racist. Think a little harder before commenting.

Firstly, I prefer the Eastern dating to the Western. I am American and I am married to a German citizen. I appreciated not having a lot of these typical American men attitudes and behaviors in the video. In addition, a lot of American men don't like to take their girl friends on frequent dates. Not only did he take me on frequent dates but we went on many vacations together. From my observation having spent a lot of time in Europe and living in the US, Western Europe has a higher opinion and respect than a lot of the US and that goes from politics to personal relationships. I really prefer the way Eastern or European men treat women. I prefer shopping on my own, unless he needs clothes, than we do it together. One thing that holds over from this to Western Europeans is the very lengthy dating period, getting a dog, maybe getting married after years and possibly having kids. I know people in the US and Europe that are on this very path.

The Western examples are really just American; don't lump in Europe with this, simple because the people are white. European dating culture is different enough between European *countries,* let alone when compared to American culture. Otherwise, this is an accurate video, actually, and well-made, but this is really referring to white Americans, not Westerners.

Exactly, "dating" wasn't even a thing in Norway until tinder. You either met someone while getting drunk and went to bed with them or met someone at work and invited them to get drunk together and went to bed with them. A relationship might have happened from that. Dinner dates at restaurants? That's for established couples most likely living together and wanting to get out of the house.

Paster of Muppets Goodness, ok as someone who's seen Asians on the other side of the stereotype, yall are MUCH more butthurt than we are. (Wait, are you Asian?) I genuinelly laughed at this video and so did many others. Mind you the title is WESTERN vs. CHINESE, not that Chinese relationships are all the same as it is a huge country with many subcultures, but... If the title of the video was say AMERICAN vs. East ASIAN people would be up an arms about how "East Asia isn't just China you bigot" and how there are many types of relationships and oh this is just China but in Korea it's so much different, etc., (just like white people talk about Europe here and so on.) I know this cause it happens aaaaall the time. As a sort of a Westerner I know there are many different types of Western relationships which are typically Western and as I watched the video I caught on which type they're depicting and enjoyed the humor. Some white people didn't, boohoo. But look at how much of a blast yall are having with the butthurt white people, look at how many people are lashing out on whites here. Man, yall got something bottled up for a long time, eh. Truth is white people's butthurt reaction is noticably less intense than Asians' btthurt reactions are when people stereotype them as broadly as white people supposedly are here, and yall are even now being the butthurt ones. Once again, look at how Asians and non-whites are reacting here. Yall are having the time of your life rn because some white people got butthurt and at the same time you're raging inside and getting all worked up. So yeah, pretty ironic tbh.

Not true, you don't know how non Asian relationships work, since your probably not white. There are good, and bad relationships, the race of the person doesn't change it. And yes, there are relationships like the white people had in the video, but they also have relationships like the Asian couple. And there are bad Asian relationships too, the white people aren't complaining about the white couple's relationship, they're complaining about the video showing an unhealthy white relationships, and a healthy Asian one, and that ain't fair. Sorry for any grammar mistakes, I'm not English/American.

Missy Murray but most of the white people's relationship are like in the video and the healthy relationship in the video applied on Chinese and not generally Asian but as far as I'm concerned most out my Indian friends' parents have rough relationship

audrey see the thing is in subcontinent the marriage is arranged and forced on people even if you leave the place still your parents will force you to be arrange married. Some times people click and lead a healthy and sound relationship. But some time they don't and have to spend for the sake of spending because they were tied in a Knott by their parents.

I'm Asian and I've dated a white person and was able to see the difference. This video is somehow accurate, some are exaggerated. I'm surprised And yeah it didn't work out.. Although all people are not supposed to be compared or stereotyped, there are just differences in cultures and way of thinking. So for those who made it work congratulations! It really needs both parties to be understanding and responsible.

Common in Asia to leave the baby with the baby's grandparents. Its not a huge deal. Besides grand parents are important because they along with the parents teach the child values and respect.

Maybe the people whp get "triggered" don't make fun of Chinese people? I mean I enjoyed the video a lot and I thought it was really funny, but they obviously meant "stereotipically U.S. Western" couples or Hollywood/sticom couples, cause A. the "West" includes Europe (to varying degrees, I guess) and it's overall very diverse, just like the "East" or East Asia is also very diverse. There's not just China, there's also Japan, Korea, Vietnam, The Phillipines, Malaysia and other countries, not to mention China is huge and also has cultural differences within itself. So in the same way Westerners are actually a very diverse bunch and we have different stereotypes. Italian relationships have very different stereotypes than U.S. And these were just the U.S. stereotypes. Some people are just pointing it out.
