I'M ONE OF THE FIRST PEOPLE!!

it's funny how there's so frequently a deeper meaning (and sometimes story) to even their most silly and lighthearted seeming song, this one in particular having two potential interpretations for different parts. the main story being 'what if the person you fall for winds up not being of whatever your preferred gender is' and a second one several people take out is 'what if women did the 'boys will be boys' sleazy interactions that men do and are often allowed to slide by without being called out or punished' with hwasa's and solar's over the top characters. (they also had two teaser videos for the song that followed byul, wheein and hwasa in their male personas. the first one had all 3 go into a men's locker room and oggle all the guys, who were mostly rbw trainees and artists, the second one had byul and hwasa trying to pick up a random woman on the street while in byul's car) the three male personas actually were given names, byul's being yul, hwasa's being ricky and wheein's being kuku. (and yes, i know byul's character was female throughout, but still falls in the 'male' aspect here since she gets mistaken as a guy so often) wheein and hwasa both had to sit through hours of makeup to get their prosthetics applied and wheein said that while she ate a whole lot was that it wasn't enjoyable since everything tasted like the rubber of her prosthetics this song, because of the 'twist' at the end and the fact that they went straight back into the chorus after it, became a huge hit among the gay community in south korea and is guaranteed to be played at every pride festival in the country. it, alongside the way the girls are constantly supporting the lgbtq community in big ways and small, are some of the many reasons so much of their fandom is gay (especially lesbian). and there are quite a few versions of this song that are worth checking out, particularly live performances. on top of that, it's one of the songs where they built in several sets of adlibs that they constantly changed up in the live performances, doing different poses or interactions or saying different things associated with the audience, venue or location they were performing at. there are even video compilations of these adlibs one of the top performances is the 'part swap' of show champion episode 154, where byul sang and wheein and hwasa split her rap (their adlibs for this performance even did 'rapper solar! oh yes! vocalist moonbyul! oh yes! rapper wheein! hwasa, you do both?" then there's inkigayo 20150621, which has byul and hwasa changing into their male personas partway through the performance, which still sends people into conniptions trying to figure out how they did it. (hint: they performed the song 3 different times that day) they also did an acapella version mv that is very much worth checking out (and the behind the scenes of it are impressive on their own, as it was filmed while the girls were trying to prank hwasa for her birthday but had the tables turned on them) and after that, they did a live acapella version with the acapella mv as the backing track at the a.m.n. 2015

Your right, unnie is like older sister, but the girls always call each other that. Solar is always getting called unnie because she’s the oldest, whereas Hwasa can never be called unnie by any of the members because she’s the youngest. But any of her juniors can call her that, like the members from Black Pink for example who are younger than her except maybe Jisoo would call her unnie.

Also, this is now a song that's just full of fun shenanigans. They often perform it as a closing track. All choreography has been lost, and now they just have fun being chaotic on stage for this song. Use the search field on MMM"s channel to find the MV you want. Nice job picking up roller girl tipping off Solar that Moonbyul was a woman. UOAY is one of MMM's deceptively silly, simple MVs with a lot to unpack: cross-dressing, gender and sexuality, sexual harassment and assault, drugging a drink, the choice of a barber shop and a public men's room for the dance scenes, and Solar's roles as French maid, coffee tea or me flight attendant, and hot to trot nurse. Imo MMM is satirizing male sexual fantasies, crimes and misdemeanors by invading male spaces and bodies to ask What if women misbehaved like men do? And while they were at it they added the question What if you thought you were straight but you fell for someone of the same gender? Of course Mamamoo being Mamamoo the answers to those questions play out as a Twelfth Night meets SNL farcical skit acted by a bunch of crackhead beagles. 🤣
