Maybe there were alot of empty seats back then but the etihad is a big stadium so there were still over 40k for what was essentially a mid table team back then, good support in my eyes

Gallas slipped and Anelka converted the penalty. Terry slipped and Anelka failed to convert the penalty. Chelsea history would have been so much brighter if these slips didn't happen. Yet we make fun of poor Gerrard slip!!

@@arvindhmani06 Abey bahut achhe insan, that was a disputable goal. Recently, even luis garcia, the goalscorer admitted that "if VAR was used for that goal, it would have been disallowed. But that's how football was back then."

But you can tell about the goal, coz many pundits have agreed to it. And listen, I have too much respect for Liverpool, being my second favourite club. You don't seem to be a Liverpool fan. So shut up. It's a good thing the goal was allowed. Coz the Istanbul final wouldn't have been the same

As an Arsenal fan, I genuinely wish Chelsea didn't lose this game. Maybe our fanbase would shut up about the invincibles and raise the standards of our club. We haven't won the Premier League 20 years on since the invincibles. We have never won The Champions League in our entire history. We could have done the treble during our invincible season. Instead, we were more focused on winning the league unbeaten which led to us throwing away The FA Cup and The Champions League in the space of 4 days. Absolute joke.

Thanks for what? We have never won the Champions League title in our entire history. We haven't won a Premier League title 20 years on from the invincible. People like you are everything that is wrong with our fanbase. Talking about the invincibles like that was even our best team. Our 2002 League double winning team was better than the invincibles. All I care about is winning trophies. With that team we had, we could have done the treble during that "invincible" season. We threw away the FA Cup and Champions League in the space of 4 days because we were more focused on winning the league unbeaten. Absolute joke.

Full season: Played 38 W29 D8 Lost 1 For 72 Against 15 (premier league record - fewest conceded) Chelsea won the Premiership with the fewest games played. Also 2009-2010 goals scored in one season :103 in 38 matches, FA Premier League record: the team averaged 2.71 goals per game, striker Didier Drogba won the League's Golden Boot as top scored (2nd time)

It's not like this was the 38th game of the season. This loss was when there was still a concern with Chelsea because they weren't scoring enough goals, so they didn't technically come close to it. You can't pretend they weren't lucky to play ManUtd B-team at home in the first game to only nick a 1-0 and also win loads of others 1-0 and then pretend they were so unlucky that they had ONE 1-0 defeat the other way round. Chelsea fans should just be grateful they won the PL fullstop they were going into liquidation before Abramovic. They could never win by many points without many narrow unconvincing wins with shit loads spent to play small team tactics and the ONE season they did score loads they had to cheat the real best team home&away to nick the title. They could never even BUY a season where they BOTH scored loads AND won by loads of points like we saw ManUtd do, like we've seen ManCity do etc...

The great Chelsea side assembled by Mourinho will unfairly lie in the shadow of the Arsenal team of the previous 2003-04 season ( managed by Arsène Wenger) completing an English league campaign unbeaten. As good as the side was (Lehmann Lauren Campbell Touré Cole Ljungberg Vieira Gilberto Pirès Bergkamp Henry) did any win the Champions League with Arsenal? Ashley Cole signed for the Blues and along with John Terry Lampard, Drogba & Torres beat Barcelona & Bayern Munich to win it May 2012.

Chelsea should’ve won it in 2005. They dominated Liverpool and then Liverpool won 1-0 thanks to a ghost goal.

Don't forget that the Arsenal 2003-04 season and the Chelsea 2004-05 season are similar for the fact that both teams were about to lose at least 1 game because of a penalty. But Nistelrooy could not convert the penalty against Arsenal(not due to the keeper's skills) and Anelka did against Chelsea. That's the only difference between the 2 seasons. Arsenal were not invincible, they were just lucky. They amassed 12 draws and did not win any other competition.
