Robert Thurman visits Google to discuss his new graphic novel, Man of Peace, a gorgeously illustrated and inspiring graphic novel tracing the life of the Dalai Lama as he takes on an empire and strives to bring universal compassion to the world.
About Robert:
A recognized worldwide authority on religion and spirituality, Asian history, philosophy, Tibetan Buddhism, and His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Robert A.F. Thurman is an eloquent advocate of the relevance of Eastern ideas to our daily lives. In doing so, he has become a leading voice of the value of reason, peace and compassion. He was named in 1997 one of Time magazine’s 25 most influential Americans and has been profiled by The New York Times Magazine and People magazine.

Other than the Dr.Tenzin Robb Thruman achievements and contributions towards Tibetan Buddhism, one thing I really notice that he and Dalia Lama had something in similarities which is his sense of humor and his outburst giggling like laugh time by time while having audience or talks with mass..he is literally one of the finest westerners philosopher and activist. His perseverance and wisdom made him a successful career and influential personal of America. We the Tibetan people are privileged to have a great connoisseur like him. We have no rewards to pay him back for his sincere contributions and services in our community, however, we can say prayers for his long life and happiness forever and hopefully wish to see him standing with Dalia Lama inside Tibet's capital Lhasa (hometown of Dalia Lama) at his holiness palace Potala in near future, very soon..

Enlightenment is actually being in Total Communication, Communion, Connection, Relationship with everyone and everything. Totally Free from stories, experiences, knowledge, images. Totally Free from fear, anxiety, personal sorrow, hatred, loneliness, inner conflicts, inner contradictions, jealousy, envy, greed, possessiveness, competitiveness, and attachments. Totally Free from beliefs, philosophies, ideologies, theories, opinions, perspectives, biases, prejudices, nationality, and identifications. Totally Free from the I, the me, the self, and the so-called True or Higher Self, which is the invention of the past conditioning of the brain. All of which limit, color, shape & distort Perception and therefore prevents Lucidity. They who are Totally Enlightened actually treat everyone, without exception, with the same intensity and quality of care and affection that you would give your dearest closest friend, lover, or child, without any sense of division, separation or distance and without an iota of bias or prejudice, in each and every moment of their daily life.

Be not deceived. You shall know them by their Fruits. A sick tree is incapable of bearing Fruit. A Healthy Tree bears Fruit. The Fruits are Love, Peace, Joy, Kindness, Goodness, Compassion (Passion for All), Beauty, Creativity, Lucidity, Truth, Wisdom...PerceivING, FeelING, ExperiencING...Communication, Communion, Connection, Relationship with everyone and everything, without a shadow of inner conflict, violence or suffering, in each and every moment of daily life.

Everything that is happening in the world today is our responsibility--each and every one of us, without exception. Not everyone who is active in politics is Totally Enlightened, that's for sure, but all those who are truly Totally Enlightened are most definitely active in politics. Politics is Life. It touches the full field of living. That includes art, philosophy, science, and spirituality. From what we eat to what we drink, from what society deems acceptable behavior to what it considers a criminal offense, from who we interact with to how we interact with them, politics decides if we are free or if we live as slaves in bondage. Politics determines what our children are taught in school, how we treat the ecosystem, what theories scientists investigate, how art is perceived, what version of history we recall, and how the future will remember us. The dynastic plutocratic families, the corporate oligarchs, the international banksters, many of whom are zionists (like the neocons and members of AIPAC) and/or members of secret societies, who dominate the politicians and the legal system and the financial system and the mainstream media and the corporations and the police and the military, are wreaking havoc upon the People of planet Earth and upon our beloved Mother Earth. They who are willfully ignorant and shamelessly apathetic about what they are doing in the world today are complicit in their crimes against humanity and Gaia Mother Earth. They who are not giving their time, energy, talents and resources to the political process, to make sure that only the most Loving and most Wise individuals become our public servants, have blood on their hands and they can never ever dare speak of Love, Peace, Joy or Creativity. The difference between the left and the right is that the left think that hatred is a the root of all the problems is the world, the right think it is fear. Since hatred is an irrational and unnecessary emotion, the left think the world's problems can be solved by simply removing it via proper education and scaring people into dropping it. But fear is a much more essential emotion and can never be overcome, you certainly can't scare people into not being fearful. Therefore the right thinks that the world's problems can never be overcome, the best we can do is balance society to the extent that fear doesn't become overwhelming. The Buddhist perspective on the root cause of humanity's problems is for sure the second type, which means it makes much more sense to be a right-wing Buddhist than a left-wing one, which is why Prof. Thurman sounds contradictory a lot of the time, at least imo.
