@@Johnny-tq9no it’s actually a protocol, though not a specific one that says keep the door open, but everything ties to efficiency. The door is for potential stray bullet shielding, hostile stand-off, and efficiency should the chase extend. Imagine lock the car and stop the engine then go out of the car and looking for the suspect, that’s a good 20seconds wasted. Same thing applies to if the suspect somehow break the parameter and escaped on vehicle, you gotta unlock the car re-start the engine then start chasing, another 20seconds wasted and the suspect’s long gone. Sure you eliminate the possibility of a suspect stealing a cop car, but the majority of the cases the suspect steals civilian vehicle, so the normal procedure for these chases is to set up multiple parameters hoping these can apprehend the suspect. Multiple, meaning there’s always possibility for further chasing. Make sure you actually educate yourself on what you are talking about before you put out the big words and accusations.

Please put yourself into the eyes of a police officer, who has perhaps been victim to one of the many assaults on police during riots, or has just seen the violence and hate for police, people saying “All cops are bastards” despite not knowing who you even are. You would be hesitant to perform any harm on any criminal who happens to be black. I am not saying this is the exact reasoning behind how he was able to get into the second vehicle and pass the dozen armed cops, but it is a possibility undoubtedly shrouded in realism, and if you disagree please tell me why, not an emoji. What was he shouting when they arrested him? It sounded like fucking code. He's probably an action hero from the future, sent back to stop something bad from happening, and due to a dire situation, had to steal the first car to escape the villain's henchmen. None of this which he can actually explain, because no one would believe him and/or it would jeopardize the timeline. Maybe those were the code words to send him back to the future so he can try again.

Ironically with most police cars you can't actually lock all the doors, because they have so much equipment in there that they need to keep the car running or it would kill the battery. They could lock all but the passenger door though.
