in 2022 my Tahoe got stolen in Oakland and I located it the next morning with the help of an air tag. I called 911 several times over the next few days and was given the same story "too busy to assist with a stolen property case." I have clear video footage of the theft and know exactly where the criminal lives. After an entire week of calling 911 daily, I finally took my spare set of keys and stole the car back out of the criminal's garage. I called 911 a final time to say I wanted to do a police report and that I wanted to press charges. They gave me a number to call. I called an left several messages...no reply. The criminal got away with it because the police and prosecutors are worthless. Here's the best part of the story.... I get a knock at the door 2 months after all this. It's the police. They asked if I broke into this guys garage, and I said yes and told them the whole story. Well apparently the thief said I damaged his garage when jacking it open . The Police charged me with TRESPASSING! I went to court and the judge had a stern talking to me and did not care at all that I was recovering my own property. The judge said i'm lucky to not get thrown in jail. The judge is making me pay monthly payments of restitution to the thief for the apparent damages to the garage. To this day the thief has still not been charged because they have no evidence that the thief was ever in possession of my car...because they refused to investigate it in the first place.

This is one of many reasons why you can't rely on police to defend you. Get a plan, get a lawyer, get a rifle, and defend yourself.

yep, i was in a car accident and the police called me and said they couldn't come out for 2-3 hours; they told me to let the insurance handle it. big mistake, now i know to always wait for the police to come and write a report stating who's at fault, cos the other guy ended up making up a new story in attempts to get his car fixed, and the insurance kept asking for a police report. time to get out of california.

These theives go in group. One night alone in San Mateo Village near Redwood City 6 cars got stolen including my husband’s work van that is full of tools. We have an apple airtag in the van, and they ended up abandoning our van 3 blocks away from our house. We called the cops and it turns out they were chasing one of the stolen car at that moment. We didn’t wait for them. My husband was able to reconnect the wires and start the van and brought it home. A cop showed up 2 hours later and that’s how we knew there were 6 cars got stolen and only ours was retrieved. Thanks to the airtag. My husband also installed a kill switch after the incident.

I had my car stolen in SF and brought to Oakland as well. I had a tracker on my Infinit as well and told Oakland PD that it’s at this location and at one point they were driving it around that same night. It took Oakland PD the next night to finally go and tow my vehicle. It took them one whole day to go get my vehicle even though I told them the exact location where it’s at and I even went to look at my vehicle the first day it was taken too.

I lived in the Bay Area for a few years and someone broke my car windows and stole some items. I called the police and they said too bad and to fill out a form online. I was truly mind blown that someone could break into my car and there is literally nothing that could be done. There are cameras all over the street where it happened.

My car was stolen about 20 minutes from Oakland. Ended up in Oakland, I called the cops when I found it (tracker), they said, "we have 150 callers in front of you, the police wont show up, I recommend you DON"T report it as stolen because then a tow truck will not pick it up, call a tow truck now and have them tow it to your house" Oakland is a Sh**THole

I watched a guy spend 4 hours breaking into a corner store. The tacoma police showed up on the 5th hour with coffees in hand. I was 6 years old and my dad called them every 30 minutes. The family lost everything. It was very sad watching my dad explain to them what he seen. 😢

This victim served in the military! When there is no law enforcement support, it makes the crimes worse. It is a violation on top of another violation. No one cares. The criminals become enabled by law enforcement and the victim's fear and the threats to his safety and well-being are exacerbated. Why wouldn't the criminals come back if nothing changes? This is when law enforcement should step up and become engaged in the problem they made worse and just OWN it ... but, most likely, the status quo will just drag on and on and get ignored. The victim gets blamed for "normal reactions" to the inaction of others whose duty is to serve, etc. Suggestions: file a detailed statement of the crimes at the local Oakland PD (make a copy); take the security precautions you can, including cameras inside the vehicles; contact your insurance carriers (keep copies and notes); and do not interact with the thieves/criminals. The evidence you collect helps you, but stay as safe as possible. Property can be replaced eventually. Retain an attorney to protect your interests, if possible and necessary.

My pastor truck was stolen and we found it the next day. We called the police and told them that we have found it. We waited 5 hours, We called them again and told them that we were going to tow it to his home or a shop.. They told us that if we do that we could get arrested. We told them that some guys have tried to take the truck with a tow truck and to please come, Cops still don't come. WE finally tow it to a shop. they came at 7pm to the shop. 11 HRS LATER AFTER WE FOUND THE TRUCK.

My brother in law side door was smashed in by a driver, who left the scene he was able to catch up to her and when he called the police they told him sorry we dont dispatch to these incidents. He couldnt believe what they told him ...LA PD

As soon as I read Oakland in the description and title, all my questions and concerns were just answered right away. As someone who isn’t born in California, but move there for school when I was younger and lived there for 10 years. Now we moved to San Francisco where my dad was originally from and still have a lot of relatives there and we lived there for a bit and judging by how it was when I was there 10 years and how it is still when I visited. I’m not surprised. Like even though I lived in San Francisco I did always visit Oakland, and go to my dad‘s cousins auto shop because I always love cars growing up and it wasn’t better so that’s how it is now.🤦

I learned a long time ago back in the early 1980s that if you need cops right away call 911 and say you think there's a fire. Fire will respond within 4-5 minutes in a large city and at least you'll have 3-4 guys with axes and a large truck and flashing lights and sirens going. or the other option is to say you think you heard a gun shot, which maybe was just a car backfiring. who's to know, it sounded like gun shots to you and you hit the deck and called 911.

It's not just OPD. I found my once stolen car via a parking ticket after theft date. When I arrived at the ticketed location, called Concord PD to advise, they had me wait more than 2 hours for an officer to arrive! This was in the middle of the day where cops patrol the area every 15 mins or so

For under $5 he can build a kill switch to turn off the fuel pump unless he manually turns it on. That will prevent criminals from "easily" getting in it and driving away.

same thing happened to us, our car was stolen in a home invasion in Vallejo , we were able to locate it, the cops took 4 hours so my husband went himself to see if our spare key worked, thank god some neighbors were able to help because the ppl came back for the car and we robbed it back from them! thank god we now have both keys but we sold the car cuz they took a shit in it!

Well, he didn't get the memo. Crime is legal, so OPD will not show if you report a car burglary, car hijacking, breakin, or robbery. This is what we wanted folks, this is what we voted for. Besides, this is not a "crime". It's just a stolen truck. And whoever took it was not a criminal but a "poor baby" "who deserves a second chance". It doesn't matter to the elected officials.
