It’s a commitment to set it up at the beginning but I think its worth the effort. I started doing it my first year of teaching. Yes! All the prep tips! Keep um’ coming! I started covering my tables with large paper rolls a couple weeks ago and it’s so helpful, especially with glue projects. The interesting graffiti from K-3rd that ends up on them is a fun collective art bonus. I’d like to inform everyone reading this that the S symbol we all remember from the 90s is still alive and well. 😂

Do you have students create titles for their artworks? Labels are an extra step but I like seeing their titles in upper grades. Also, do you mat their work? I’d love to see your process for matting and hanging artwork for displays but also for large art shows if you do one for your school. Ours is coming up and making sure most students have at least one work in the show is a big stressor. Looking to streamline.

I’m getting ready for a district art show soon and hope to share some tips then. I mount my work instead of matting. We don’t do titles but I do love them! I probably could create a label that they write their title on and attach it above the name label. I haven’t done a big art show at my school in years because it does take a lot of time. I also did certificates stating what they had in the show written on each of them! I would highlight their name in my grade book when I got something from them for the show. They sell erasable highlighters and this worked well to keep track. I’d often have 2-4 items per students and it got crazy big to manage! 🤪 Good luck with your show!

How do you have the students put their names on the mats? Masking Tape is what I use to identify their work.

The name tag labels are stickers and we stick them on all of our projects on the front of the paper regardless of whether or not it is included in the show. Then if it’s in the show I tape the work to a larger black paper.
