You're an introvert? Same here! I've been considering becoming an art teacher for a while but have been afraid to commit to the journey because I am VERY introverted. I'm worried that I'll feel too overwhelmed with the large workload and noise. How do you manage your introverted-ness?

@@Alexis-c9z it is a red low fire clay. It looks dark brown then fires to a coral looking color. I purchase from a local clay company so shipping costs are low.

I'm debating between becoming an art teacher or going into graphic design. Any tips or advice? I'm 35 going back to school.

If you can go and shadow and art teacher for a day or two. See if you can spend the day with a graphic designer. The jobs at ex very different. Art teachers and always on and interacting with students, staff, and parents. Graphic design would be much quieter, much more independent computer work. Good luck!

Love this! Do you start all of your classes (k-6) the same way? Do you use the same PowerPoint/sayings/songs with each class, or is it all different? I would love to know how you manage different classes based on age and grade level-if you do that. Thank you!

Thank you! Yes, I pretty much do the same thing with everyone. I don’t do the criss cross applesauce song with 3rd-6th. I only review the rules in 5th and 6th grade if the class did not earn the golden paint brush the previous week. You will enjoy this video too- How I Start my Elementary Art Classes kzfaq.info/get/bejne/rpOep6Rmndm3h6c.html

Re: Centers 1) What determines which station a student uses? 2) Items like “salad spinner” spin art - do you limit # of stu’s to the number of spinners you have ? 3) Do stu’s spend a chunk of a period in station/on an activity & then rotate or remain w/center entirety of class period? THANK YOU! 🏆🏆🏆♥️♥️♥️

Students can choose and move freely. If they want something like spin art with a limited number they tell someone they are waiting and come back in 5 mins. More info in this video Ketchup and Pickle Day kzfaq.info/get/bejne/o7eApt2D0tzZeas.html

Does number order correlate to last names, table seat, numbers, or? 🙏🏻
@Managingthemess

Number order is their seat #. I think you can see best how I table the seats and line students up on the numbers in this video How to Line Up Students kzfaq.info/get/bejne/hrNde7R0v5-nZn0.html

Well Mrs. Katie, As far as seating charts I would say focus more on student safety versus "breaking up the cliques". Would you rather sit a student next to another student who does not get along together and worry about breaking up a fight or sit a student next to another student whom they are friends with and do get along with and worry about stopping chatter? More than anything, the risk of distraction is determined by whether the lesson you are teaching gets student interest/buy in or not. The Golden Paintbrush Award could turn into something that the classroom teacher might do with the students like say if they get so many compliments and fill up some sort of a compliment chart it could turn into an incentive for the students in their classroom from their teacher. The name of the game is classroom/specialist teacher support and student buy in. It's always good to recognize positive behavior. Enjoy summer beautiful. - Dwight

Great video Katie, question if I may. If you're not painting or doing 3d work first half of the year are they just using dry media for the first half? Seems like it would be hard turning out that many projects with limited media choices. How do you deal with that? Do they get bored with crayons, color pencils, markers, etc. TIA Mike
@Managingthemess
@Managingthemess 28 күн бұрын
We have quarters. The first 9 weeks I move slow. I go over routines and rules in a lot of detail. Yes, we do dry media during the first 9 weeks mostly. So, yes drawing and collage projects come first. We also use tempera cakes during this time to build into full on messes. Many projects span multiples classes. I hope that helps to clarify. So, its about 7 classes of low mess media then transition to messy media. We also do a ketchup/pickle day at the end of the quarter one week to finish any non completed work.

Katie, as. 22 year veteran of secondary art who is now being asked to finish his career at an elementary. this was so awesome and valuable. Gotta ask if I may. You say no reward system but then you mention a "golden" paintbrush. Isn't that a type of reward? If you could elaborate it would be greatly appreciated.
@Managingthemess
@Managingthemess Ай бұрын
The brush is really just to communicate with the class and homeroom teacher. Other than the brush and a “good job” there is no party, sticker, etc. All my students get an end of the quarter free day despite the classes behavior. Here is info about the end of quarter kzfaq.info/get/bejne/o7eApt2D0tzZeas.htmlsi=wPVIxYyRetbnD7vG

Thank you for your great videos! One thing I purchased with my own money that I would suggest is a stack cutter. It is worth its weight in gold! I use it ALL THE TIME!! It's great for cutting large amounts of paper and paper strips! (Mine is the 17" paper cutter.)

If you have natural hair paintbrushes that look like they're having a bad hair day (bristles that are frizzy) use a bar of white Dove bar soap to condition their bristles. This is really good for fan brushes, filberts, and pointed rounds
