I personally really blame the board for sacking Nagelsmann. I don't doubt Tuchel is a good manager and will lead Bayern to new heights. But whenever you switch coaches/managers, you're adopting a new style of play and new expectations. It takes time to adapt to these new changes, and in the MIDDLE of the champions league is the worst time to have to let players adapt. This is the first time I've seen Bayern players confused on the pitch.

I don't think this tactical innovation can be justified by elite squad planning and money AT ALL. This is just Pep being a master innovator. They lost their best inverting FB in Cancelo. He wanted his team to play a 3-2 in build up and realized that until Lewis matured, he did not have a fullback who could invert into a double pivot (he said he does not find Walker good enough to do that). So he asks his CB to become a DM in possession. Of course the number of CBs who can do what Stones did are VERY VERY few but the key thing to note here is that Pep found a way with the personnel he had to fit his structure.
@wallahhabibiiii
@wallahhabibiiii Жыл бұрын
Playing in the double pivot in the 3-2-2-3 requires a high level of technicality so its still mostly good on Stones for being so technically good but the rest credit goes to Pep for actually recognising it and making the best out of it

With the way the modern game and marauding fullbacks have become the norm, playing 4 Centre backs is honestly one of the ballsiest moves out there, especially with the way Stones moves into the midfield just makes them logically so vulnerable to pacey breaks. But the way Pep has just made it work by getting the back 4 to be an absolute marvel of containment in his high press tactics… insane. Bravo Pep, Bravo.

Pep is really a genius. John Stones who is a CB playing as a second Cdm or inverted fullback, Ake who is also a CB playing as LB against a team like Bayern and still beating them? Remember, Pep has also played Stones as RB (when Walker was injured), he has also played Laporte as LB. John Stones is good with his feet. An attack often aimed at pep is that he has all his success with financial backing at powerful clubs. But a critical look at this will show financial backing and powerful clubs don't guarantee anything. Real Madrid went years with no European cup. Arsenal under Wenger only won 3 leagues and no European cups. Chelsea with abramovich couldnt win a European cup foe the better part of a decade. Jose mourinho didn't last at Chelsea. Conte doesn't last anywhere. PSG cant buy a champions league and no longer even win every competition. Turns out there aren't really any examples of a manager who can constantly win at the top level over and over. Pep is a genius. Ancelotti is great but has never been a man who wins 3 or 4 trophies in a season. Even Klopp has let a team age into mid table. Pep is up there with Ferguson.

Xavi actually thought of similar tactical ideas as Pep back when he was at Qatar. One of his ideal formations was the 3-2-4-1, with his wingers providing width and a four-man midfield to counter against having just three in the middle. Initially at the start of the season I was confused why there were so many centrebacks in the squad: Christensen, Araujo, Kounde, Eric Garcia. Even Marcos Alonso and De Jong could fill in the CB roles. Then as I watched Pep’s Man City in the UCL, I realised Xavi is actually working towards this sort of shape. I wouldn’t be surprised to see a pairing of De Jong and Eric Garcia in midfield. And certainly Kounde will eventually be able to play in his favoured CB role in this shape, alongside Araujo and Christensen. There’s also rumours that Barca might sign a left-footed CB too.

I don't want to say that this team seems to just be figuring out some things just now, that gives them too little credit for how good they've been all season. But they do seem to have gotten so much more fluid in the transition from offense to defense and defense to offense. They seem simultaneously more ruthless going forward and less vulnerable to getting caught on the counter. And everything seems to be just flowing more when they're in possession, with more patience and less of the occasional instances of trying unsuccessfully to force the ball into Haaland they were guilty of earlier in the season. I think if they can keep the core team together and not lose Gundogan as the rumors suggest might happen, they could be something truly special next year.

Then Pep tried Bernardo, but Bernardo's defense is a bit sketchy against opponent winger. And finally comes Stones, and pivot-CB role change is so much more natural than pivot-FB.

Pep is a football and technical genius. Man City under Pep lost: Joe Hart - they don't miss him Kompany- they don't miss him Sane - they don't miss him Yaya - they don't miss him D. Silva - they don't miss him Aguero - they don't miss him Sterling - they don't miss him G. Jesús - they don't miss him J. Cancelo - they don't miss him E. Garcia- they don't miss him Any other team losing 📉 this amount of key players would've collapsed. e.g Liverpool lost Mane and the whole team collapsed.

Liverpool did not collapse cause of Mane’s departure. Mane was past his prime his last couple season at Liverpool, it’s their defensive liability and midfield that needs a proper no.6 and no.8.

This is because positional play football doesn’t rely on individual player and is not build around them but team system. Still sending Cancelo was ballsy to Bayern too.

Eric Garcia should start in dm for busquets, he’s faster and able to make the same passes as he’s very technically gifted like busquets. It would be better for build up play too as he pushes up, frenkie would be there along with Pedri who link up with anybody well. It would be such a great start to the attack all the time, as well as better for defensive retreating too

Imagine if they would've gotten Enzo too. Enzo further developing under guardiola in such a dynamic, direct system could have ended any trace of competitiveness in the prem for years. Damn, what could've been...

@nicolascastelli4439
@nicolascastelli4439 Жыл бұрын
@@paulpolito1438Nono, Julian is improving his passing a lot, but Enzo's vision and sheer impact on games is something else, plus even in River one could tell, as good as Julian is on a technical level, Enzo is better. Enzo is a full on controller, who always gets in contact with the ball more than anybody else on the pitch, and in a free role can display his huge arsenal of tools, he can do anything you'd want form a midfielder at the highest level, depending on what you'd want at that moment, always has a say and is impactful in every phase of play. That coupled with amazing technique and world class vision and understanding of movement dynamics and space. I know it sounds like I'm exaggerating but he won't look out of place anywhere on a pitch so long as he is not playing a static position. Imo he would take Gundogan's position, but make it his own, with a lot more creativity variety of solutions he can come up with. His only draw back: He can't cover large distances very fast, though he is extremely explosive in short distance. His dribbling is underrated cause he doesn't use it in 1st or 2nd phase.

My comment is a month after this video analysis and in that time, Pep has fine-tund his 3-2-4-1 formation to an even higher level. Attack is the best form of defence and their frightening front five (F³) keep the ball so high up the pitch and control the game there. As an Arsenal fan I can only watch & wonder when Arteta will get to even a certain level of flexible thinking his guru Pep has. In hindsight, while we led the table for most part, we actually were just the pacemakers for Pep's team who still have enough gas in their tank to just beeze past without breaking a sweat. Point to be noted is with this formation ManC is on an unbeaten/winning streak from March, if my memory serves me right.

Stones was the key to City's win over Bayern. His confidence on the ball and his awareness off the ball was truly something to be studied. Ake and Akanji were sublime in defense. The way they handled their 1v1 and how they frustrated Sane and Gnabry. Ruben was a rock as always. City finally have a strong defense which is sturdy and aggressive yet also exceptional on the ball playing like midfielders

@@thegoat8447 they aren't the Ronaldo/Suarez/Messi/Benzema in the early 2012-2016. Liverpool 2017/18 was absolute prime, literally Salah/Mane/Dijk were expected to win balon d'ior. 2019-2020 we definitely trolled, but were going through some rebuilding. 20/21 and 21/22 we should've won that. 20/21 was best offensive vs defensive premier league teams and 21/22 was Madrid magic, we unfortunately trolled in both seasons. Aguero was aging in the last 4 years and Jesus isn't Benzema, Salah, Mane, or one goal wonder Havertz. No excuse but Haaland is Ronaldo to Madrid, now we have a solid shot at getting this title

i think they played mostly 424 where gundo drop and stones drop to cb and that make thier attack impossible to stop as they attack from everywhere and yet defense is very solid with 4 cb that always in pos and they dont really need to be wide while midfield was also very good on pressure and getting the ball out .. best way to beat that is to use 3 or 4 midfielders to try out number them but yet debryune also drops to take the ball when needed so its very hard to stop ..

Playing with double pivot irá what city needs, and Guardiola knows It, because of Haaland. He is not very good at coming to receive the ball, making the pass and then attacking the goal, he is a menace when he stays in the zone. Thats when players like Silva, de Bruyne and Gumdogan find their spaces in the attacking field and do their thing. Haalands only job is scoring, and should be, and Guardiola knows this, because when you have players like Debruyne, Gundo, silva, Mahrez, foden, Grealish, you dont need your 9 to come create Game. Guardiola makes hes football simple, and as Johaan Cruyff said, thats the most dificultad thing to do.
