Remember watching Bebe playing for Man United Reserves (U23 level basically). He absolutely destroyed everyone in his age group (at the time). I can see why he was hyped. The guy was just so strong and skilful. Not the best touch, but he had the power and agility to beat defenders. I think what he lacked mainly at senior level was the fact that he can no formal training until he was about 18. He was just missing a few things technically and fitness wise, but it just proves how much natural talent he had to forge out a top level career the way he did. And he scored for United once at Bursaspor!

@@fingmoron I think you're over exaggerating how "bad" those Liverpool teams of the mid 00s were. A team consisting of Arbeloa , Reina, Carragher , Xabi Alonso , Mascherano, Torres , and Gerrard is hardly the basis of a mediocre team.

From how you explained, I think for what he has achieved is great as he never trained professionally until he was sixteen most great players come through the academies where they have the equipment and coaches to train them. And for Bebe, coming from an orphanage to playing and training in Carington is a great achievement for him and according to me I can say he had a decent career after Manchester United and he still has. Most overhyped players end up quitting if they don't make it.

Bebé is a very good player, now near the end of a worthy run at Rayo. He was put through the grinder at a time in his life when he needed nurturing and stability. Alex did him no favors - instead of working with the kid, they sent him to the bench in Istanbul. And onward through the system. It's amazing he made a career at all, given the way he got chewed up and spat out by agents and clubs thanks to his "lucky" break at VG. Sometimes one's good fortune winds up being good only for someone else.

@@adelinomachado9232 Marisa Mendes was engaged to Bebé (not actually married after all, sorry) for quite some time. That means that Marisa and Bebé were dating right after he went to Man Utd. I am having trouble getting all the correct dates, but you just need to google Marisa Mendes and Bebé, and you'll see for yourself. Either way, married or dating her daughter, he had enough reasons to promote Bebé as he did. The bottom line is Jorge Mendes promoted the player in his own interest, got him to play in some top clubs, but he simply doesn't know how. It's with much regret that I saw SLB having this guy as a player for some time. He was simply a marketing stunt, not an actual quality footballer.

Excellent piece, fascinating story. Much respect for Adrian's knowledge and delivery (and extra props for the spot-on Portuguese pronounciation!) To be fair to Bebe, his goals-to-games ratio for United was impressive, especially for a winger. He scored twice for United (including a goal in the Champions League!) despite only making a couple of starts and a handful of brief substitute appearances, they were good goals too, they're on KZfaq, check them out. Bizarre signing though considering he only moved on a free a few weeks before Utd spunked millions on him!

I remember at the time, here in Portugal, that the signing came out of nowhere. We were still in pre-season when suddenly the move was announced in the news. I remember thinking that Guimarães hit the jackpot and that Man Utd were stupid buying a player that hadn't played a match. Now I see that he played 2 friendlies. Doesn't change my opinion on it being a stupid transfer for Utd.

Im a fan of Vitória Sport Clube, the team that sold Bebé, and had never heard of him until hearing United bought an unnamed guy from our team for 9 million euros 😂😂 Like, Edwards would probably be a great sub for a team like Tottenham, and Tapsoba would be a starter in any team in England, even in Liverpool besides Van Dijk, but it's like coming in and buying a random dude that barelly plays, like André Almeida, who even played in London against Arsenal, coincidentally, for €6 million out of nowhere 😂

Talking about Liga Nos, I just looked at the table of League and was like "who the hell is Famalicao?" You cant judge everything in hindsight. There are many players who got overhyped and never made it on the big scene. Macheda is one. I agree this situation look weird, but again, all your conclusions are in hindsight. Just because he didnt make it doesnt mean that they didnt see anything that could have been something good.

The homeless World Cup doesn’t necessarily mean you have to be homeless. I went for trials when I was living in a hostel and he also went for trials when I was living in care. I think it’s pretty insensitive to call an orphan homeless. Also if you are going to do any video about the homeless World Cup at least do the slightest bit of research 🙂 Now I’ll watch the rest of the video ha ha

We all know he was one of the biggest flops in football history but I cant be anything but happy for him, from living in an orphanage to being a professional footballer at any level is a huge accomplishment. Bigger and more life changing than 90% of the current Manchester United squad will ever do
