Now I know where I’ve been going wrong with my plant and yellowing leaves, I’ll buy another this year and try. I’m dead envious of yours, it’s a beauty.

Great stuff! It's nice when you can spot an issue that could be similar to yours. Mine is looking much better since I shot this (Part 2 is coming up later today) but I'm still getting the odd yellow leaf. Hopefully though, it's just in a transition phase after the repot, as it has way more blooms on it now and that's just after a week. I'm aiming to get a Mandevilla splendens this year - although God only knows where I'll put it!🤣

Thanks Trish - I repotted it last week (in a video coming next) and the blooms have increased and it generally looks a lot better - although still getting some yellow leaves. Time will tell.

Great info Geoff, thank you! Believe it or not, but we have one planted outdoors in on a west facing wall of our house. It dies back, but comes back each Spring. I'd love to dig it up, pot it and bring it in for the cold months. I'm sure it would be much happier. Take care!

Thanks Ruth, I'm glad you found it interesting / useful. They're supposedly tropical and won't take below 15°C, but I imagine there are hybrids that will take lower temps. There are also quite a number of species. Also being in the ground can help greatly as it it has a large starchy route that goes deep. I think most of my issues are those of it being confined to a small pot! I'm aiming to get Mandevilla splendens - another species but with different colours. No idea where I'm going to put it!🤣

@@Grow_Up_Man55 I need your help please. I've got two Mandevilla plants. One vining and tall on a wooden trellis the other is smaller has vines but it's more like a shrub to me. Both beautiful favorites of mine. I'm new at this. I lost one to stupid mealy bugs last year. This year my big one I bought in distress. I took the challenge bc I felt so bad for what I saw in such a gorgeous favorite. I won lol I saved her but it's definitely still in need. No flowers and now that I brought her inside she's acting up. I Know a few dropped leaves is Normal bc it's adjusting to indoors n lack of light ( I bought a light so rn just a purple grow bulbs over it and I'm installing the shop light tomorrow. Question is how can I stop the wilting of the leaves. They've got dry brown big spots..please help

@@nicolemiller7022 Tricky one this - as it could be all sorts of things - all of which results in dying leaves. But the first thing to spring to mind is the move inside. These tropical plants need lots of light - they won't adjust to lower light, they'll just dump their leaves. Try to improve the lighting, but take care not to overwater as they can very easily get too much if they're not in active growth. I've found the younger the plant, the more it's susceptible to watering issues. If it does drop all it's leaves don't despair. Many tropical can act like a deciduous plant in certain circumstances. Providing the stems remain green underneath when scraped with a knife, it'll come back once the light improves. Good luck!

I am so surprised your dipladenia thrive under shade cloth! It's certainly a versatile plant; mine is sitting on my patio in the high desert of southern New Mexico (very close to Mexico, in fact) with the brutal sun almost touching it for a good 10 - 14 hours a day. What saddens it is the torrential rains of the monsoon season. I'm going to need to report and do a better job of protecting it in future. Thanks for your tips!

Hi! Love your videos about mandevilla. I noticed mine have lots of yellow leaves and there are no blooms anymore. I live in Florida and the weather changed from very warm to a bit coolish now. I am very sad they were soooo beautiful all year long until now.
@Grow_Up_Man55

Thanks! Yeah a drop in temperatures will definitely cause that to happen. They're happiest above 15°C. However, providing you can keep it above 12°C it should back again when the temperatures warm up a bit.

I just watched your yellow leaves on a Mandevilla … I bought mine as a very small Diplandalia, trained it up a trellis with difficulty. I’ve had Approx a year. She is my masterpiece, about a year old and blooms and blooms and blooms September through April when I have sun (I’m Florida) my leaves were turning yellow and also we’re light yellow will green lines in the middle of the leaf. After I saw your video… I was shocked!! I measured (we have the same moisture meter) and the same problem!!!

What I did is took a pencil and poked holes down to the bottom 0f the pot and did this all around the plant. It helps to get air to the bottom to prevent the bottom roots from sitting in wet soil. It worked for me.

I don't want to lose all that top growth that's twined itself around the trellis but yeah if all else fails I'll prune it right back. I actually think now that it's still in the same pot it came in so hopefully the repot (in a video coming soon) will sort the issue.

Hi, I need some help trying to figure out the right way of wintering my mandevilla indoors. I have now had two of them dry out on me. I read about different ways of wintering but two have not worked out. It gets oveewhelming trying to figure out the right way to do it. I live in Canada so our winters get cold and I have to bring it indoors, I don't water it a ton during the winter months, seems like they dry out everytime. I stuck them in two different spots each winter but nothing. Would be greatly appreciated if someone pointed me in the right direction for wintering mandevilla. They have also been in nice big pots outdoors and indoors.

Difficult to say for sure as it could be a number of factors. But I would definitely look at light in the first instance. These are high light plants and will slowly die if they don't get enough. I would say most houses are not going to be bright enough without supplemental lighting. The next factor is temperature. There are exceptions with some hybrids, but many prefer to be over 15°C or they'll start to drop leaves. You're right not to water much through winter unless there are signs of growth. Another thing to point out is that even if all the leaves drop, this plant has the ability to re-sprout from the roots - so don't give up on it unless you're certain it's dead. I made a more up to date care video very recently you might want to try. Here's the link, and good luck with yours: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/a9yqlrt9yti6mn0.html

Hi! The nursery suggested I put mine in a bigger pot nice I got at home, which I did & that they like a lot of sun. I water it maybe twice a week if was really hot outside being in the sun & all. But the past week the leaves have been turning yellow, spots on some of the leaves & they are starting to fall off. Some of the steams are drying up & it’s not blooming flowers as well either. I stopped using Miracle grow in the water scared I was burning it & sprayed some Insecticidal Soap on it in case those spots on leaves were from any bugs. But the soil is still dry on top but 8-9 on the moisture soil meter. Oh, I did mix a little sand with the soil as well, I’m at a loss on what else I should do, does anyone have any other suggestions please?

If the moisture meter says it's still wet underneath then I'd hold off from watering. Have you got the pot raised up so it's not sitting in a puddle of water? Can it properly drain through and get the air underneath the pot?

Difficult to say exactly what's wrong from here - but assuming you can't see any signs of insects - even with a hand lens - then I'd just give it a spray with a fungicide and see what the new growth is like.

Hi could I grow mandevilla sanderi in a large hanging basket ?
@Grow_Up_Man55
@Grow_Up_Man55 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Katrina, yes you can - there are even hybrids grown specifically for this purpose, that don't vine at all. But I've had 3 cuttings of Mandevilla sanderi (the vining species) in a pot for 2 years and it's still not started to vine, so I see no reason why it wouldn't go very nicely in a hanging basket.

I have mine on my balcony in full shade. And it’s been blooming like crazy and vining all over the place since the end of April. And it’s been healthy and beautiful. Fast forward. It’s now early August. And I live in Austin, Texas. And our summer has been experiencing extreme. And I mean extreme heat for weeks. The base of the plant doesn’t have many leaves anymore. And the poor plant is stopping its blooming. But it’s in no way dead. It really just needs to be taken inside. I will cut back the tendrils and take it inside. And I will bring back out in mid-September when summer subsides. They are considered annuals here because we get bouts of extremely cold weather in winter. I expect it will die when it gets really cold.
@Grow_Up_Man55
@Grow_Up_Man55 11 ай бұрын
Some hybrids reportedly can go right down towards the low few degrees above frost level but obviously it depends which you have. Mine definitely doesn’t like to go much below 15 degrees C, without going into a semi dormancy. A lot depends on the maturity of the plant and the light intensity it gets.

Hello Joy. It's hard to say without knowing more about the growth factors it's being subjected to. Generally they like the sun. But life in a pot is a lot more stressful for a plant than life planted in the ground. Maybe the pot is getting too hot? What watering regime are you following? I've recently released a new and updated video than the one you watched - which is over 2 years old now. I suggest you watch that one and see if it helps with your problem. @@joyj6702 You're welcome! They are some very high temperatures compared to what I'm dealing with here - but it does come from the tropics so should be able to cope. Yours could possibly be a hybrid which might affect things. I would definitely try to keep the pot cooler with some shade, and make sure it gets plenty of water at those temperatures. Good luck!
