@@highlyfavored2434 Well, that's exactly why she's like this! Her body produces too much testosterone, so she grows a mane. But, does it matter why one looks like this? Males have manes for the same reason she does, and one wouldn't argue that makes them ugly. To me, she looks like a lion that has the adorable poof of a male lion, while retaining the more gentle and petite look of a female. It means she's poofy, yet not too big and bulky. Adorable, to me!

I don't know if there is, but her having a maine can be a huge disavantage on hunting. Look, this is how lion prides work (this is coming from someone who's watched docs and all, not an expert), basically, females hunt, males protect the pride from other challenging males (this is because when the challenging males take over the pride, the cubs - if there were any - are killed by the new alphas. It's cruel as fuck, but it happens in order to keep the best genes going forward. Also, if these males don't have a pride, it's basically over for them, I explain why further). The females hunt more because they don't have a maine, which means, they can get camouflaged. A lot of the grass has the same color as lion skin, they get stealthy and get as close as possible to the prey before charging and chasing. Obviously, a Lion can't camouflage and get stealthy with a big and dark maine like that. Males hunt, with the lionesses, at night, when their maine becomes irrelevant, but sometimes, they can help at daytime, with bigger preys, such as a giraffe (which is rare) or a very sick and dying buffalo (which is slow). This disavantage for male Lions is easily seen with the lifestyle of the challenging males before they get a pride for themselves (they are just teenagers who are almost adults, and then are kicked out by their moms), they mostly don't hunt, they have to search for scraps, like naturally dying animals (old and/or sick) or stealling from other predators (such as a Cheetah). Lions have great night vision, but hunting at day light is so much easier and has more chances to work out, that's why it makes a difference, at the end of the day (no pun intended). I think a good reason why this type of lioness isn't common is just this: hunting gets harder. There is hardly any meat for the pride if the Lionesses can't hunt. There's also no cubs. Therefore, this gene doesn't go forward. Also, another thing, like the video explained, this Lioness can be mistaken as a male by the other males. Two challenging males won't come forth to challenge the alpha of the pride (even if there's more than one male, there's mostly always an alpha, which impregnates the Lionesses and is the father of all the new cubs), if there's 3 males. It's too risky. Lionesses can stand up with their current alpha and support them, but most of the time, they just let it happen and see who wins. It's that push the best genes forward thing, it's their dynamic. This can be a problem for this pride in particular, if they have no males, they can end up not having any. If they have one, he's can end up dying of old age, while the Lionesses get old too. One thing I forgot, this Lionesses probably won't be able to manage the pride's territory, since the males are the ones who do this.I believe their urine it's the reason why it's not possible, because the male's urine marks the territory for intruders. I don't know if the females urine has the same effect. Also, the roar is different, and it's another way of marking territory. This might answer why there might not have a larger documentary. It sure looks cool as fuck, but, this is not the most susteinable way of a pride working, that's why it's so rare ;).

I'm pretty proud of that. I guess us manly women exist in the wild too. Nice to know.

She's not "manly" she just has a mane. Many women with hormonal issues have facial hair and features but still can be very feminine. If your masculine that's a state of mind and has nothing to do with looks. In fact I think the more masculine looking women I've known seemed to be the most sensitive, nurturing and loving women...which is more of the definition of feminine than lip stick and painted nails.

vlanjos4807 Maybe if people stopped turning gender and sex into a dichotomy despite all the evidence to the contrary we'd stop having to make things like this sociopolitical. It's not as concrete as everyone wants to make it. People can piss and moan about 12 year olds identifying as "dragongender" all you want. It doesn't change reality. And reality is that gender, much like sexuality is a spectrum with near infinite factors to take into account. And frankly if someone doesnt want to identify as a binary gender and wants to be "a child of the wind", who does that hurt? Why do so many people give so much a fuck? Why can't we all just live our best lives and stop being bullies over trivial bullshit?

@@skepticalpanda8862 but gender and sex are a dichotomy, and this lioness has nothing to do with a "spectrum". And as the narrator said, out of the ENTIRE POPULATION OF LIONS there are only 5 that this happens to. Has ZERO to do with trans. You are the problem that the original poster of this thread was talking about. Gender and sex are two options everywhere else in nature. There is nothing that's a social construct about scientific, factual biology. How we Express our genders is the only thing that's a social construct. If there weren't hormone replacement therapies or STRICTLY cosmetic surgeries available that do nothing other than change appearance, we would all be in the same boat. And all this evidence you speak of, there is none as far as legitamate correlated studies go. No proven studies. The only reason the medical industry has taken an interest in this is for the money, nothing else. That doesn't mean that your perception of self isnt what it is, but as far as our biology goes, there are only 2 genders. FYI, my girlfriend is transgender MTF, and even she agrees with this statement. Your bullshit lies that there is all this "evidence to the contrary" is hilarious and adorable, and you arent convincing anyone by lying. The problem people have with transgenders is not that they are choosing to go through their transitions but rather that there are a select group of them that are trying to change facts of life about it and mandate that people recognize them as they choose to be. That's called cognitive dissonance, and it's the same thing as people smoking cigarettes and saying it's good for you and or nothing will happen by smoking. If you wanna smoke thensmoke, but dont tell others they are wrong for saying the truth about it.

I think you're getting species mixed up with sex, Cheri. You might want to google what a sex is. It can be quite clearly defined.

Mothers are already protectors. Lionesses are literally the leaders in the pride, they hunt, they give birth and they raise their offspring! Have you ever seen how much effort it takes for a lioness to protect her cubs from other lions that only want to kill her cubs?? They don't need to suffer from a hormone imbalance, they're already the soldiers!

Fucking gays, am I right? And that’s coming from a lesbian, there’s a few of us who aren’t stupid...only a few...I’m very certain it’s just a hormone imbalance. Not even intersex, just imbalance. It’s like when some people are born with it and while they look different, it’s NOT trans😂

Some people theorize/speculate that a hormonal imbalance at birth, especially during fetal development could be one of the causes of Transgenderism. So, you could call the Lioness "Trans" if you wanted, but it wouldn't be 100% right.

I'm LGBT and i don't think this lioness is the perfect example of the community, the bearded ladies from Ripley's believe it or not would be closely relate to this lioness 👀. And i agree with the whole choice of the sexuality, i choose to date women because i like them and i find them very pretty.
