Pada Vande is a Mangalacharan which literally translates to "auspicious beginnings." Odissi was originally a temple form performed in the presence of a presiding deity Jagannath. In any space we dance in, we draw upon those energies, that grace before we begin. Antara today begins with invoking the blessings of the lord, followed by an invocation to Ganesha - the remover of all obstacles. The piece ends with a trikhandi pranam -the presence and the blessings of the gods above, the lineage of gurus and the audience.
Here, I am performing chota Manglacharan with a few modifications from the original choreography for this performance.
