If you had to breach a door right now, would you have the training and the tools to do it? If lives depended on it, are you ready?

After recent active shooter events like what happened in Uvalde, Texas, breaching has once again become a topic of conversation for both law enforcement and the public. Proper training and proper practice are essential to timely, successful breaches under emergency circumstances.

It is simple but effective. It takes a little getting used to at first. Watch some video of actual breaches and you’ll see it’s rare anyone foots the door. They lose a lot of energy and rely on upper body strength which makes breaching so much more difficult

What are you using for resistance ? Just the gate hinges ?

I need to make a breaching door I have my training stands for locks for light mechanical breaching.

In some cases it is better to stay on the hinge side because it’s usually safer to stay out of the door frame, also you want to be out of the way for the rest of the team to make entry

Correct. Hinge side good. Knob side bad.

If there is a mail box/ opening, you can remove the thing. It's like a cassette. No security door obviously.

You could have easily removed the exposed pins on the hinges and pulled the door open without destroying it (or leaving any signs of forced entry). Signed: Deviant Ollam.

Back in the day in SWAT training, they taught us two methods .... dynamic and slow methodical ways of entry and clearing/securing. The ram is certainly dynamic (rapid). He is correct in saying that the normal fire-rescue Halligan tool is way better that what is usually found in the police toolkit. Fire-rescue calls it the set of irons (Halligan and 8 lb flat-headed axe). As for the small pry bar, it depends on the door and locks installed. There is also a tool available called a shove knife, which is basically a small slim jim that is best used on interior doors. Great video overall. Thanks!

Um isn't the side of door LUO is usually standing because its not a good idea to stand in door 'light' - fatal funnel? Also, standing on left will give you no cover when door will be opened. Just a thought why they would choose presumably wrong side ;)

Yes, a doorway is considered a fatal funnel but you need to be in the doorway to get it open. You should always be wearing armor and have a cover officer. Once it’s open your next job is to get out of the doorway and let the rest of the team take over. Good question. Thanks for watching!

Standing on the knob side during a ram breach will give you light cover however, I have seen an officer break his wrist ramming from the knob side because the ram continues to move forward once the door is breached and his wrist hit the frame/wall. That is why we breach ass to hinges

You have to keep in mind most breaching done by first responders is rescue based not tactical. You're breaking in to deal with a patient not a bad guy.
