Awesome budget adventure bike that is really nicely improved in 2019, but i wouldn’t upgrade my 2017 for a 2019 even if it’s much better. But, i would be definitely interested in a new CB650X. Honda please create one! 😎

Great feedback Trekky. If you didn't already own one... the 2019 is a huge improvement (purchasing new off the sales floor) but If you own one already or have access to an inexpensive used earlier model, ALL of the proper Mods are out there. I am SUPER impressed with the 500X - so fun and so functional. Thanks for watching.

@@trekkydelirium-vroom5821 A bigger motor - at the same weight. The 500x is still a bit heavy on paper, but handles like a dream in the real world. A true 700cc Adv would be great at the same weight of the 500X.

The little CB500X is a rad bike. I have the 2017 and it does everything I want it to do. I don't take it on gnarly off road though, just gravel/dirt roads every now and then. I can see how the '19 handles the rough stuff much better. Great review! Thanks!

Great and enthusiastic review. You are brave taking it out to those trails without any skid plate :-) I did a bit on mine also, couldn't wait to test while waiting for my add ons. Also I think the Battlax AX41 tyres is great for this bike. I have upgraded my wheels to spoked wheels, they are narrower, the front tyre is 2.5 so I could put on a 100/90-19 instead of the std 110/80-19. Will test it with Mitas E07 rear (140/80-17 on a spoked 3.5 rim. Nice channel ! Cheers from Norway.

Hi there. I did enjoy your review cuz this is a bike that I really want to buy. But about the suspension, we cant forget that this bike wasnt built for off roading even that it does handle it. So of course Honda will not fit in s suspension that is not ment for certain purpose. For off roading you got the 500X Adventure. This bike is perfect for what it was designed for.

The factory price sounds tempting BUT I watched several reviews and everyone suggested that the custom suspensions are a must. So I quickly checked the price only for the back suspensions without looking for other stuff like back plate, front suspension and wheels, they cost around +$1,5000 plus delivery and customs duties SO this bike's price isn't that cheap thing that everyone talks about. Honda installed cheap components to keep the bike's price competitive but what is the point when you will spend more money for this and that? In my opinion Honda had to sell the bike for at least $1,000 more and add the basic whistle and balls. It's also very very important to mention that this bike's engine is part of the bike's frame, that means that extreme adventure could cause the engine crack and not being covered by the warranty!
@manybikes
@manybikes 2 жыл бұрын
I hear you... I still think that this CB500X with a skid plate and slightly stiffer suspension... Amazing bike! And it would still be the same prices as a 390 Adventure with MUCH better longevity and road manners. Just saying.
@billadmond9450
@billadmond9450 2 жыл бұрын
@@manybikes I know that feeling, once you buy a motorbike, it must be the best otherwise you feel bad LOL The KTM 390 Adventurer is $400 cheaper so you're wrong, it has a very low center of gravity (road manners LOL), the engine has more torque at higher RPMs so this bike performs much better both for endurance and on fast ways, with this bike you can do adventure without spending further $1,500-1800 only for the back suspensions. It wasn't my intention to compare the CB500X with other bikes but my statement still stands that Honda saved money to make the bike "apparently" look cheaper than other similar bikes. Honda reliability? That is a marketing brand that Honda built with the made in Japan but now it's the end of it. Dude I had to sell a brand new CB330R with only 1,800Km (and lost money) because it had very strange and noisy things happening in the engine's head. Of course the distributor and the dealer let me down because they wait the things break instead of preventing it to happen even so they know the problems because this bike in the recent past had recalls. Honda reliability? I wish you have better luck than me and you enjoy your bike but I won't buy Honda anymore!

I've been waiting to purchase the 2020 version of this bike but yesterday I discovered the KTM 390 Adventure. The KTM comes loaded at an even lower price than the CB500X. Having a hard time deciding but leaning toward the KTM. Good review btw.

Thanks Michael. I own a 390 Duke and am in the process of making it an ADV bike. Tough choice... If the 390 Adventure is made in the same factory as my 390 Duke, I would steer you to the CB500X all day long. The fit and finish of the Honda compared to the India made KTM's ... it's HUGE. My Austrian KTM's (450exc, 950se and 1190 Adv R) are made of much better materials than the 390. From metals to fasteners... there is a HUGE difference. Once the 390 Adv lands here in the USA it will most likely be very close to the price of the 500X. The 390 motor is more fun... and it faster than the 500... but the 500x handles much better. Tough choice... All depends on what you really want to do on it I suppose. Thanks for watching! - Kyle

@@manybikes So the 390 is indeed about to land in America in a couple of months. The price will be about $6200 which is appealing. Having said that, after exhaustive reviews of KTM bikes I am beginning to heed your advice and similar advice from others. The issue of reliability in general with the KTM products continually rears it's ugly head in online forums and reviews. The 390 Adventure is heavily laden with electronics especially for such a small bike. I also have heard that if there is even the smallest glitch it must be returned to a KTM dealer to have codes reset and you will be sitting along side the road or worse.. The Honda reputation is one of rock solid reliability. The KTM is still enticing but I am currently leaning toward the CB500X. Again thanks for the review.

@@OregonMotorcycle You mentioned horror stories about the KTM without mentioning a single one so your comment sound more like copy and paste from forums' trolls. I had a brand new Honda CB300R and I had to sell it after only 1,500Km because it had a strange and loud noise in the engine's head. Honda had "many" recalls like other Japanese manufacturers too so what I want to say is that people talk so much (copy & paste trolling) about Honda reliability while the bikes are no more made in Japan!

I tried to get one but could not in Canada. They had me on the fence for over 3 moths, then said they can't get one for me and tried to sell me the 2018, I got the Versys 300X great little bike, even with the bad tires they sold me ( death wings ) going to put some Dunlop trailmax Mission on and from what I have seen these seem to be the go to tires for the type of riding I do. I would like to see a comparison between the CB 500 X and the Versys 300 X with good tires on bough ( Dunlop trailmax Mission would be nice ) The Honda will most likely be better on the high speed highways but for roads up to 90 km they should be neck in neck, but I think the Versys 300 X might win off road and rough dirt roads, and it dose come with spoked wheels. The only thing I not happy with is the high rev engine but that is because I am use to single like the KLR, DR650 and the S40 I have had a lot of 1000 cc + bikes but do not see the need for them, there are no 200 + kilometer per hour roads where I live or drive. And I do not take the kitchen sink with me on my rides.

I have ridden the CB500X and the Versys 300X and the CB is way more fun on the road. The 300X just did not do it for me. Now off-road... out of the box I really like the Versys. While I wanted to LOVE the Versys... the lack of top end made me go a different route. If I line up two back to back ... I'll for sure reach out to Dunlop and request some Missions ;) Thanks for watching.

This was a really good review. I really enjoyed watching it and it opened my eyes to a bike I probably wouldn't have looked at. Not saying I'd buy it, but I wouldn't crap on anyone who owned one either (not that I care what anyone rides anyway... run whatcha brung!). I must say though, your review seemed like some pretty high praise considering the other bikes in that middle weight class... not sure if my definition of middle weight is the same as yours. Would you consider the DL650 a middle weight? Personally, I think if we're comparing this to the NC500X or NC700X then yes, this is the MUCH better option. Not sure where I'd put it compared to the DL. Would really like to get your take on the two. Thanks again!

Great feedback & questions! Middle weight... ADV bikes... 500 to 800 cc Adventure style bikes. The SV650 is more this style than the DL which is a true “dual sport bike” basically a street legal dirt bike vs. this... a street / touring bike that can go off road. The CB500X is a super fun and really capable bike! Hope this answers your questions sufficiently. - Kyle

Can‘t agree to be a great Adventure Bike. It‘s a heavy Bike with a small engine and has no 18/21“ wheels. No competitor for real Adventure Bikes (690, 701, T700, 790R, AT, etc) It actually competes now with the new 390 Adv (same wheel size) just weighs 40-50kgs more. So its an option for entry level Adventure Bikes, not really meant to be ridden a lot offroad (no spoked wheels, nor 18/21“ nor a serious suspension travel)
@manybikes
@manybikes 4 жыл бұрын
Points well taken Thomas. However... "most adventure bikes" were 19/17" for a really long time... Its only really the last 6 years or so that the "more adventurous bikes" are getting the 21/18 treatment. Now cast vs. spoke, I totally agree with you, but must ADV bikes never see more than a gravel fire road which cast wheels will have no problem with. Yes, this is meant to be an entry level bike, not and AT, 790 or GS. For what it is ... it a super fun, inexpensive, adventure capable machine. That's all I was trying to convey. I live in acongested city and my cb feels just big enough to filter between cars but I wonder if the Africa twin is too big?
@manybikes
@manybikes 4 жыл бұрын
Kim Cruz Yes, the AT for sure feels twice as big and maybe even three times heavier. They are very different bikes. It all depends on what you want to do with the bike. The AT is the close to the same bar width as the CB - in traffic lane filtering is no different.

Kyle Bradshaw hey man thanks for the feedback you have a really cool channel btw! Ok thanks I’ve just been considering an Africa twin recently for the extra power but seems like it might be too heavy for what I need. Perhaps the 850 Africa twin or a tenere 700 would be better! Thank you!

OK honda, lets get serious now, take this bike and fix it up into a model that is an actual off road adventure bike. All some suspension, better rim's and tires, few other goodies, probably only gonna cost you a little as you have all the parts needed, then "boom" we finally have a real adventure bike from honda.

I'm quite late to the party, but I have a question. The cb500x runs a 160/60 rear tire from factory. You are running a ax41 tire, which is only available in 150/70 and 170/60. Do you use the 150 or the 170 rear ax41?
@manybikes
@manybikes 2 жыл бұрын
Yes and yes! I have used both and I prefer the 150 for two reasons. 1st, the 150 is almost 2 lbs lighter than the 170. 2ndly the side of the 170 pulled in and made the break in really steep. I liked the handling of the 150 better. In this video, the bike had the 170 installed, and it worked fine and looked AMAZING... but I like the feel of the 150 best. Cheers! Kyle

Good review.... but.... Its not half the weight of the AT. HP to weight ratio is low at a mere .12. Compared to all adventure bikes, its low. The T700 is .17. The AT is .20. A bike in that ratio range of the CB500X is the XR650L. which is basically the same HP:Weight ratio and cost $3,000 less and weighs 100 pounds less. Also, the XR650L has almost zero tech subject to break. i.e. No radiator to leak, No Fuel injection, No electronics, plus it has a higher ground clearance. having said that, just be careful of Honda's awesome marketing machine. They know how to sell bikes.
@manybikes
@manybikes 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Steve! Ha! Ha!... the XR650 is a "big dirt bike" that can ride on the street and the CB500X is a little street bike that can so on the dirt... rather well too. Very different machines. As for small ADV bikes, like the GS650gs... The CB500X is a better all around bike - in my opinion. Honda did a great job with the updates. It is a street bike that "can go off road" and for a smaller stature person that can't handle the weight or seat height of an Africa Twin, or a bigger KTM or BMW... this is a great bike that can do it. That's all I was saying... Honda does know how to sell (market) bikes for sure! It was a good ride... - Kyle

@manybikes

Now that’s a great question. The Versys feels significantly bigger and more robust as it is taller, longer and the suspension is stiffer. The 2019 CB500X is more nimble and feels lighter. @@turbofan67 Perhaps you have a line on much cheaper suspension than I've seen. Usually the rear shock is $800-1000 and the forks are $1500 or so, so $2300-2500 total. CB500x ABS is $7400 with destination. Add $2500 in suspension and you're at $9900... roughly the expected price of a T7. So yeah, some hyperbole in my initial statement, but probably not far off.
@turbofan67
@turbofan67 4 жыл бұрын
@@therealturbofanisme The T7 will be way more than $9900 when it hits the showroom. But either way the T7 is a very different bike to the 500x. The T7 is built for extreme off road, and with that comes much higher suspension. So if you're less than 5'10", don't expect to get your feet on the ground when it gets rutted. The 500x is built for comfortable dirt road touring and a few bumps and lumps. That's what I bought mine for, and it's a great little bike. If you expect to be doing snotty trails, then definitely get the T7.
