The thing with the first map is that it is in winter. So -9 degrees in Brussels is actually a bit below average. And I think -21 degrees in Oslo is an acceptable temperature.

Meanwhile my parents moved from regions around Moscow to Khabarovsk (Russian Far East), destination between them around 8000km, and every summer we flight to grandmas for 7 hours, but once they’ve decided it’s going to be interesting to take a train. For 7 days 💀 With time we moved back to European part, but when topic about visiting Khabarovsk comes up I don’t take train trip even as a joke

Would the train connections in between island of Timor and Papua be underwater or a bridge? My issue is that the ocean there is very deep, and it was the only part of Indonesia to not become land during the ice age.

Don't worry Drew! Brightline West will make a highspeed train from Las Vegas to Los Angeles with Hesperia and Rancho Cucamonga in between, Palmdale is on a different branch. Environmental approval coming sometime this month unless delayed again. According to the map, Las Vegas to Hesperia so far is complete. Only the Rancho Cucamonga, Palmdale, and Los Angeles parts need to complete it.

Its not as slow when you consider theres lighter security, i went on a plane from the uk to germany 2h flight, 1h to get to the airport, you want to be 2h early, so 5h total. Train back was like 5 hours including security and 1000x less stress

Fun fact, we almost got half of europe uninhabitable from tchernobyl as shown in the video. Underneath the reactor core was a pool of water used to cool down the reactor. After the explosion, the core was melting down and if it was to touch the water, a second explosion would have occurred wich would have made Belarus and Ukraine impossible to live in without a complete anti radiation suit and anti nuclear shelter as well as transforming eastern europe in a stateless death zone inhabited only by parias that couldn't afford to leave, with a life expectancy of 30 years and constant struggle for basic goods like drinkable water and others.

-16 In January isn't that much colder than now. January/February are the coldest months and here in Denmark it's not uncommon to get -10 or there about, with extremes of down to -30. -16 is cold, but far from unbearable. If it was -16 in July then it would be something.

Trains are actually proven to be faster to get from a city to another city (including check-in, security, boarding time, etc.)

Especially on shorter routes where boarding means walking to the train. The longer the distance, the less the whole boarding, check in, security stuff matters. On the other hand, very short flights are super uneconomical. Jet's get their efficiency at high altitudes, and with short trips there just isn't enough distance to go up there and come back down.

I think the train lines in that map are more meant for transport of goods rather than people? That's the only way I can explain why some of the lines have so few stops (especially line 1).
