I am using this Marantz as a 2.1 preamp. It performs overall better than my Parasound P6, even the phono stage. I also have it connected to a Sony UBP Player to enjoy stereo SACD DSD output via the Marantz’s DAC. This unit gets the job done for sure. Just add some high efficiency bookshelf speakers and sign up for Apple Music for sound truly as good as it gets at a reasonable listening level. One more thing, the sub preout is controlled by an adjustable low pass filter and sub volume can be set to match left/right speaker volume, meaning bass integration is easy.

Loved this Marantz 1200 but had to return due to poor fm reception . Only able to receive 3 fm channels even with OTA antenna. My old vintage (1987) Sony GX10 ES gets superb channel selection. But, if fm is not an issue for you the Marantz is still a great product.

Does this have a class A/B or class D amp section? None of the specs clearly state if it can drive a 4 ohm load. I'd like to use this to drive elac uni-fi uf5 s. So it's either this or the denon or the Onkyo. Onkyo has a 4 ohm rating and I've read the denon is class AB which I usually prefer.

Marantz has not published the amplifier's class in the NR1200, but it is rated for 4ohm use, and you will be receiving in the vicinity of 100 watts RMS at a 4ohm impedance. Chat with an Advisor online or by phone if you need immediate assistance. www.crutchfield.com/I-rYTVc164/contact

You can definitely connect both pairs (all 4) of the speakers and use them in an A/B style of playback. The subwoofer, as long as its a powered model, can also work with this receiver. If the powered subwoofer has an LFE input, you can use the same subwoofer cable that connected it to the dead Onkyo.

Hello! I currently have a Marantz NR1606 that I love, but is missing some things I would like to have. I would like to have something more powerful, with a built in WIFI streamer (such as HEOS), physical eq controls, and something that is 4 ohm stable. I really like the way My NR1609 sounds and love the form factor. I was thinking adding a Bluesound Node, but maybe just getting an NR1200 is better? Should I expect better sound quality just from the amp section difference alone? I would really appreciate your thoughts. The NR1200 looks like a winner for me. Thank you!

@@crutchfield Hello! Thank you for the response! I will only be going with a two channel system with a single subwoofer. My speakers are Wharfedale Diamond 11.2 bookshelves. And I apologize, My Marantz unit is an NR1606, not a NR1609, so I do not have HEOS built in. Air Play does not sound good. I thought the NR1200 would be a good option as it is in my price range. But I"m worried about the 4-ohm rating situation. My Wharfedales are rated at 8 ohms but their website states they do dip below 4 ohms occasionally. I have a Bluesound Node 2i, so the built in streamer is not necessary. I need something 4 ohm stable with a built in DAC so I can plug my TV into it with an optical cable or an HDMI. So, since I like Marantz, I was looking at the NR1200 and the PM6007. Your thoughts are greatly appreciated and any other options other than Marantz are ok. I'm open to advice. Thank you!
@crutchfield
@crutchfield Жыл бұрын
In your earlier post, you mentioned wanting more power. The NR1200 will give that, especially, then the speaker presents a 4 ohm load to the receiver. The MP6007 will not help make any changes in the sound as it is basically the same power as the one you have now. All things considered, the NR1200 does seem like the best choice for your audio goals.
@ramondelgado6778
@ramondelgado6778 Жыл бұрын
But the PM6007 has a toroidal transformer, larger capacitors, and a much thicker aluminum heat sink. And it has a 4 ohm rating. I thought for sure the PM6007 would be better for my situation.

I would agree , it depends if you want to use the marantz as a pre amp source . The internal amp is not really that great , but sounds good if you add a quality external amplifier . I have one and they have a few operating sytem problems that require firmware updates . I would honestly probably buy a quality integrated unit from the 90's and add the features , but it is a pretty convenient package . It just leaves some sound on the table and kind of defeats the purpose and turns the marantz into an expensive pre amp . Probably not a best buy in reality and alot end up on ebay that have problems .

I don't think its a power mismatch. If I had to guess, its either that this match does not give a sound you like, a settings issue, or a faulty unit. If you purchased it from us, you can contact our technical support to help check the settings.

June 2023 - This seems like a great unit... but I wouldn't get it at this point. It seems long in the teeth. If I was to get one, I wouldn't want one that was sitting on some shelf for 2-3 years. Who knows what they would give me? The whole point of purchasing New, as opposed to Vintage... is the age of the unit. // Is Marantz going to update this soon?

It's still a current model and up to date as far inputs and features go on a stereo model. Right now, we don't list a newer version; but would you want another brand/model? If so, what features do you need? What speakers do you plan to power?

@@crutchfield - Thank you for your quick reply. Unfortunately I have not found a nice stereo amplifier equivalent as an alternative. I guess that I will wait for the new version to come out... whenever that is.

Those are getting harder to find, but the Cambridge Audio Azur 851A does have what you're looking for with those connections. www.crutchfield.com/I-rYTVc164/p_779851AB/Cambridge-Audio-Azur-851A-Black.html

Is it better then Marantz pm6006?

They are very different receivers. This is a surround sound receiver, while the 6006 is designed for a stereo set up. It would depend on what you are wanting to do with them. One of our advisors would love to help you explore which one would best suit your needs: bit.ly/2KP1zS3
