Dateline interviews and follows Marc Summers in a report about Obsessive Compulsive Disorder or OCD. If you thought Marc loved getting messy, think again.

As a lifelong sufferer of OCD, and a lifelong fan of Mark's, I'm glad to know I'm not alone in my struggles. It can be a real life-sucker, but I have my good days and my bad days.

Marc Summers is kind of like my awesome Uncle I never met but was part of my entire childhood..he was always there on time and I could always count on him for a load of laughs, and an awesome time!! He also bested Burt Reynolds and the man is my absolute hero and forever will be at a God status on Mt. Olympus, dethroning Zeus!! Marc, that laugh and that sense of humor ...we salute you man, and I feel weird directing this towards you like your reading this, but who the fuck cares right...I love you Marc and thanks for being there for me and children everywhere!!! Everyone needs to check out the tonight show segment with Burt Reynolds and Marc!!! It's awesome and Marc totally rules the stage!!!!!!!!

Mildly OCD myself. Not as bad as Marc. I think my grandfather had it worse. Only man I ever knew who would step out of the shower, cross the bathroom, and wash his hands. While my grandmother was grocery shopping, I'd go up and down the aisles and organize the canned goods, making sure they were lined up correctly, with all the labels facing forward. I did the same thing in the cosmetic aisles. People would take out a lipstick to see if they liked the color, then put it back in the wrong place. Used to drive me nuts. I can walk by the shelves without rearranging them now. But I still feel annoyed by it. On a side note, though. Did it ever occur to him to just stop buying rugs with fringe?

Read his book Everything In It’s Place, more detail and it’ll show how it was only about the first week or so he hated it and then Double Dare was a breeze and what you saw in him jumping and being thrown in to stuff was his own self doing what he needed and wanted to do for the show.

When he did this interview, he was "ready to move on" from Double Dare. However, by acknowledging that he had to shower after every show, he led people to believe he was a germophobe like Howie Mandel, but his OCD was more about neatness and organization, along with irrational thoughts that if he didn't do something a certain way, something VERY bad would happen.

The drugs they give you for depression & anxiety cause both! Learn how to handle it naturally & you will get well, but getting off the drugs is the hardest thing of all. They are HIGHLY ADDICTIVE & weaning extremely gradually over half the amount of time you were on them is the only safe way to get off. Coming down too fast is very very dangerous!

Much to Marc's delight, I'm sure. Marc had said in a recent interview that he HATED "What Would You Do?". Besides the mess, the producers had him doing things that were actually dangerous. The show also went through several different producers that wanted different things, and he said the show was NEVER the same day to day. He quipped even the show's TITLE didn't know what the show was about. Robin, the show's assistant, also mentioned in "Slimed" that some called the show "WHY are we doing this show?" Despite this, I saw What Would You Do? as a kid's version of Truth or Consequences, maybe Marc didn't see that. He even returned to DD, sort of, recently doing live shows, but I doubt he gets himself messy anymore. As for getting messy, yes he hated it, but in another interview he said he also considered it "therapy", because he was confronting his fear of getting messy and forcing himself to be hit with pies and slime and such.

Is that why he quit DD in 1994 or didn't return to it in 2000?

He didn't quit in 94, the show was cancelled in 93 (although WWYD ran that year). He was an executive consultant in 2000 and did a lot of behind the scenes work, such as with the WaCK remake.

I don't believe for a second that Marc was ever 'cured'. No amount of medicine short of a never-ending bong is going to cure that particular disorder. I guaran-fuggin-tee you that as soon as those cameras were gone he swept that house like it was a mine field. That he was able to compose himself in front of the camera is no shock- operating in front of a camera is/was his trade. He did a nice job hamming it up for the camera when it suited the segment as well.

Read his book Everything In It’s Place, released only around 4-5 years ago. He considers himself 80% recovered, mostly because it still rears its head once in a while. But he openly admits he doesn’t have an issue with getting messy for Double Dare, not does he keep everything in his life neat. He shared a video of his office for Oprah where are they now, that can be found here on KZfaq, and he openly admitted he doesn’t keep his desk that clean anymore. And yes, medication does work, that’s what he’s been using. Not as much as he did at the point of this interview, but some. Read the book, believe me, he is as cured as he can be, and is happy to be a little bit messy.

It's funny, now they believe it's nothing more than an addiction and there's only one way to get better: stop doing it. The fact that he didn't do it on TV just proves that it can be controlled. Watching him purposefully and innocently "act out" is painful. It's just like alcohol, once your start you can't stop. We may as well be watching an alcoholic relapse on TV. It's the first "drink" that gets your drunk.
